Just did this last month.... You are given a separate Disney gift card for the $500. It's not put on your KTTW card. So if you end up with something left, not that we did LOL, you could take it home and save it for another trip or to use at the Disney store.

The first one I got, I received through email and there was a link to book a trip. You just had to put in your last name and the pin code. We just got one through the mail today and it looks like that one does need to be done via phone or TA.

I got that one today, but I'm not going to use it for our April trip since the gift card rebate is a better deal for us per our TA. This time my DH isn't coming. It's just my son and I. If he were coming, it would be a better deal to take the free dining. Oh well. I guess we'll just have to go...
