AKL-Has anyone been disappointed in their Savannah view?

I have been to AKL twice, and received people pen views both times. The second time I went I specifically asked for no people pen view, and the check in cm acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. She said she could not accomodate our Arusha Savannah request, but we were upgraded...

    Vent....

A little OT, but I have two sons, now 13 and 10. I stayed home with them full time and am just now back to work. When first son was about 2, I told dh I was going away for the weekend with some girlfriends. He asked me if I expected him to "babysit" all weekend. I said, of course not, I...

Day 7 A day of fasting?

I have been to Disneyworld many times, with kids and without. There are many frightening things to see, excluding the e ticket rides! but.... as an experienced (read old) parent.... let me offer another scenario.... Little Johnny gets up in the morning and puts on shorts and a T. Mom and Dad...

Don't hate us but we did not like AKL

We loved AKL and found the bus system actually better than Beach Club and Grand Floridian as the AKL busses are direct to your destination and don't make any stops. We never waited more than 5 minutes for one. We loved the theming of the lodge, kind of like another park. The cm's were...

    2 thumbs up for AKL

The pool area was crowded, but we always found chairs, usually around back behind the bar. At Jiko's we started with the flatbread, then had the cinnamon beef roll (excellent!) then dh had monkfish, the best fish I ever tasted, and I had shrimp. We split the beggar's purses for dessert. It...

    2 thumbs up for AKL

the transportation to the parks was great. Never waited more than 10 minutes for any of them. Sometimes they would swing by and pick up at Blizzard Beach, but most of the time they were direct to the parks.

    2 thumbs up for AKL

Just back from AKL. Loved it! We have stayed at GF and Beach Club before. What we really liked about it was that it is almost like another Disney park. The theming is incredible. Even the pool looks like an African watering hole. The grounds are lush with many flowers, and the cms around...

AKL - $25 per person charge

I know I am way too midwestern, but come on, people.... What kind of example are you setting if you lie? Yes, I know "everyone" does, etc.... Right is right, lying is wrong. Why can't your niece come up with the extra $25 per night? Doesn't she work, babysit or get an allowance? I don't...

    Tipping Concierge?

When we stayed at GF, concierge level a few years ago (2000?) we were told concierge (concierges?) could not accept tips. Seems strange.

    Disney really does listen!

Just for the heck of it I decided to check out this forum again, even though I cruised on the Magic last June. I am so excited that Disney has changed the concierge offerings a little bit by adding a lounge at the terminal, as well as a little reception, and free soda in the suites. These are...

    Magic 11/03 Trip Report

Loved your pics and trip report. It brought back so many happy memories from our June 2001 trip. We had Silvio at Palo's one night, and he was great! He was just getting ready to leave for vacation... so I guess he left and came back. Again speaks well of Disney! Thanks again... you have a...

all the news, grand finale...final thoughts

Will we do Disney Cruise again? Probably yes, especially now that they will have new western itinerary. I would definitely recommend the experience to other families. Verandah again? You betcha. This added so much to our trip, so nice to get away from the crowds during the day, and...

    all the news, part 6

Surprise, surprise... out on the verandah again early a.m. waiting to arrive at Castaway Cay. We dock about 9, disembark at 9:30. Long, hot Disney Cruise Line line to get off ship, backed up all the way from Deck 1 to almost deck 4, filled with jostling, crabby, pushing, elbowing people...

    all the news, part 5

Thursday, another day at sea. I have no idea of the date, I am proud of myself for figuring out it is Thursday! Stanley Cup? Who cares... Any news? Who cares... We had a 7:45 wake up call from Mickey, I put the phone up to my 7ds's ear, and he said "That is really annoying!" We had 8:15...

    all the news, part 4

Hi Sandee, We just took taxis to the beaches. Dawn Beach in St. Martin was probably about 15 minutes (?), I can't remember how much, maybe $5 per person each way. Magen's Bay is probably about 15 to 20 minutes, $6 per person each way, with a 3 dollar entrance fee per person.

    all the news, part 4

I think it is Wednesday, or something, I have lost track. I am also a newsaholic and have not even checked out CNN. Now that is a vacation. Niece and I have seen several dolphins frolicking after the ship. I also saw a blow spout off in the distance, couldn't figure it out (no whales around...

    all the news, part 3

We loved St. Martin. It is my second time there, and I think the people are super nice, and the downtown is very cute. We went to Dawn Beach on the recommendation of our fantastic server, Janet. What a great place... waves big enough to entertain the children but not scare them, and a...

    all the news, part 2

Sunday, first full day at sea and I am up early watching the almost waveless deep blue water roll by my verandah. Life is good! Day spend being lazy, pool, reading, eating. DH went to seminar on making of Castaway Cay, which he enjoyed. We also did the Surial Bath, which consists of...
