3 week road trip- California, Vegas, Grand Canyon?

Definitely do the Grand Canyon if you have never been. But you have to decide whether to do the North Rim (cooler weather in August, less people, more rustic, close to Zion National Park which is worth a trip by itself) or the South Rim (more trails, more developed, bigger WOW factor). Either...

    Colorado- summer family trip?

The good news is that both places will do exactly what you are looking for - great mountain getaways. Estes Park is located at the East entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park - probably the BEST mountain scenery in all of Colorado, maybe the best in the nation. Lots of easy hikes on well...

    California State Route 1

Yes, it is seasonal. The peak time is mid-October thru January, so you may get lucky. Unfortunately the Monarchs don't work regular office hours ! Here is a web-site to give you more info and a number if you want to call to see if they are there yet...

    California State Route 1

The aquarium in Monterrey is a must see if you are there. Also highly recommended is 17 mile drive in Carmel, Point Lobos, and Cannery Row. That area of California is a great place to visit. The beach and boardwalk at Santa Cruz is also fun if you are beach people. Then there are the Santa...

    Choose one!

I would vote for Plan A with both choices. My two cents: The North Rim is more spectacular and less crowded than the western edge of the Grand Canyon - which is technically not the Grand Canyon at all, but a side canyon. The 'real' views of the Grand Canyon are in the National Park at North...

Really Really Need Help For Us Road Trip

When in Southern California be sure and have either lunch or dinner at IN-N-OUT BURGER. Not a big menu selection, but it is a So Cal staple and not to be missed. I agree that North and South rim in the same trip is tough to do. They are only about 15 miles apart, but there is a big gap...

    Monterey June '08 HELP!!!!

It isn't exactly in the 17 Mile Drive area, but another option is Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. If you want the ocean, nothing beats hiking at Point Lobos, but if you want to see some amazing trees that you won't see in Texas, the Redwoods are amazing. Henry Cowell is about 3 miles north...

Help Needed! California trip July '08!

With 2 weeks in California, I would try to see Yosemite National park if possible - especially if you will include the San Francisco Bay area in your itinery. A majority of the attractions and restaurants in LA or SF are available in other cities, but you can't go anywhere else to experience...

Going west for the first time!!

I don't know if you are tied to the days of the week on your trip or not, but if you aren't you may want to consider doing Vegas during the week instead of the weekend. Hotels are 2 or 3 times more expensive and there are A LOT more people from Fri - Sun. Lots of Southern Californians come up...

USA Trip Plan - please comment

My recommendation is to either plan 2-3 days for the Grand Canyon or don't do it at all. As a PP said trying to go out and back in one day will wipe you out. It is not interstate driving and it can be longer than 5 hours each way. One other National Park that, IMO, is almost as spectacular as...

    Hotel for 6?

The only one on your list I have stayed at is the Best Western Park Place Inn, but we had a regular room, not a suite. The hotel is a good one and a favorite of Disers, but mainly because it is across the street from the entrance to DL. One recommendation I would look into that is not on...

    Disneyland prices just went up!

Getawaytoday.com still has the old prices - we bought our tickets for October last night. They charge a $10 fee, but with the new Disney prices it is still a better deal if you get more than 2 tickets. I don't know how long before they raise their prices however.

    October trip!!

I don't have any suggestions on what not to miss (all of it !), but make sure you get all your 'must sees' done on Friday the 26th with fewer crowds. The following Monday and Tuesday is the UEA break where all of the schools in Utah will be out and the weekend likely will be very busy.

Are the fireworks really worth it!?!?!?

As the other posters have said, it is not so much the amount of exploding lights in the sky - if that is your yardstick is sounds like the Vancouver show is 'better' - but the theming, then use of other media besides fireworks, and getting caught up in the whole Disney emotion. If you have ever...

    6 Day Park Hopper question

Can you upgrade a 5-day hopper to a 6-day hopper at the park? We have 5-day tickets, but I may get to go for an extra day. Any idea if that is possible?

Getawaytoday is offering 2 EE's with 3-Day Hoppers

You have to click on the MORE button right next to the ticket description. That will give you a pop-up window that explains the two days of Early Entry. I clicked on a 5-day hopper, but the offer is good for anything 3-days or more. Here is the verbage: Experience the magic of The Year of a...

Is Space Mtn open during EE?

As soon as EE is over be sure and pick up a FastPass, even if you don't use it right away since the lines will still be short. The return window is as short as it will get (and you can get another FP fairly soon) and you can come back later in the day or at night and ride it again.

    Best Route from I-15 ??

I agree with that. We try to get through Vegas by 9:00 or 10:00 in the morning so we miss all the crazies going back to LA. I've heard of 7-hour traffic jams due to accidents along that route.

New to DIS and new to Disneyland

I second the Residence Inn. They have one and two bedroom 'villas' with two queen beds and a queen sofa bed and will comfortably sleep 6. They are more like a condo than an typical hotel. In addition to the free breakfast they will do your grocery shopping while you are at the park and there...

    best grocery store nearby

Yahoo.com has a map feature that allows you to type in an address or location and then type in a business name or kind of business (Target or 'grocery store') and then it will map it in relation to your original location. It is a good way to get a visual of how far something is away and it will...
