Yup you have to check the DMV. Back when I got my license in Cali at 16, it was driver's ed (you have to pay for it), then you could take the 2 day behind the wheel training (another payment, around 100 I think), then to the DMV for the written and road test.

Although I do agree he should have had some punishment for punching the mother, kids fight and do stupid things. A good sign though is that this kid actually gets along with SOMEONE who shows "authority figure" ie your son... He could just be acting out because of his moms' illness...he may...
