    Which "splurge" would you choose?

I would do the deluxe hotel without a doubt. You will get plenty out of the F&W fest and there is no comparison with the hotels. If I had stayed at a value on the first trip with DH, there would never have been a 2nd trip.

    New England Vacation 2015

This is a ton of driving. I think you have a 12 year old? This is way too much time spent in the car, imo. You're talking hours of driving in between each place. If you're coming from Boston and driving to VT, I'd skip the White Mountains. You need more than a day to really enjoy it...

Have you ever "sworn off " a resort at WDW

Will never stay at AKL again. Did not like having to walk (what felt like a mile) down a long hallway to get to our room after walking the parks all day. They also play this drum beat music throughout the hotel that drove me nuts. Will also never stay in the Treehouse Villas again. They...

Boston: Where to stay, What to do?

If you don't care where you stay, try Priceline. I usually bid around $100 for a 4 or 5 star hotel. You may have to go higher in the summer but its a way to score good hotels relatively cheap. I'd recommend the Waterfront hotels since they're closer to the attractions mentioned here. Hotel...

Has petsmart grooming really gotten expensive?

I take my 2 dogs to a local groomer. $40 each for bath, cut, nail trim, ear cleaning, etc. The works. They weigh between 45-50 lbs. Support your local businesses.

champagne in the bottle on site

I don't know, but why not just stash a small bottle or two in your checked luggage? We travel with wine every trip (to and from) and have never had a problem.

to go to K or not to go to K? That is the question!

Yes, exactly. He has no idea what he wants to do after graduation. He will likely spend a year or more at community college while he figures it out.

to go to K or not to go to K? That is the question!

Your situation sounds a lot like the situation I was in 12 years ago. I chose to send my son and I so wish I hadn't. Kids start K now already knowing how to read, add, etc. My son struggled to keep up in K. He struggled in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. He eventually had an IEP for reading. I put...

    Costco Hearing Aids?

I just bought a new BTE yesterday from my audiologist and it was $1900. My insurance will pay $400. I consider this a bargain. He had a sample that he was able to program to my hearing. The new technology was amazing - crystal clear. I wouldn't go to a clinic or costco for something like...

Please don't pay full price for XM Radio

I cancelled and every time they call to offer me the $24 / 5 month renewal I tell them that I will renew if they can assure me it will not auto-renew at a higher rate. They can't, so I tell them that until they change their billing practices I will not be a customer. More people need to do...

Can someone explain food poisoning to me?

It sounds like gallbladder pain to me. You might want to have that checked. Eating fatty foods will trigger it in the early stages.

British Wine Gums-B&M Stores in N.E.

I see you are in RI. There is a place on Rt. 1 in Peabody MA called Union Jack. I don't know if you ever get up that way, but worth a stop in. They may be willing to take phone orders too - worth a phone call. Here they are on Yelp. (I've never had a problem with the people working there)...

Is there an iPhone speaker/dock that can do this?

We have a Bose docking station and it does amplify the ringtone (a lot!). They sell them at best buy, but they aren't cheap. Think we paid about $400 for it. You might be able to find a used one cheaper for the iPhone 4/4s though, the new ones are bluetooth.

    Salem, MA Anyone?

We were at Salem Willows yesterday and its closed for the season. The chinese take out stand (chop suey sandwiches!) is open and the popcorn bar place is open, but everything else is locked up. So, don't go out of your way to go here.

Possible move to New England, can I get some help?

Durham is close to Manchester and Maine (about in the middle) and a nice town. Home to UNH. Has its own HS. Surrounding towns are Lee, Barrington, Madbury, Nottingham (some of which do not have HS's and send kids to Durham).

    Portsmouth NH/Southern Maine Ideas

There are a few restaurants in Kittery that we really love. 1. Robert's Maine Grille - owned by the same family who owns Bob's Clam Hut (located right down the street), but this is a sit down setting. Delicious seafood. They have a nice deck that overlooks the river. 2. When Pig's...

Fun things to do in Philly?

All good suggestions so far! FYI - The mint tour is closed until spring or summer 2012 - double check on this if its something you're interested in doing. The gift shop is only open M-F. We ate at Pietro's pizza on walnut. Its not just a pizza joint - full italian menu, etc. Very...

Tell me about your skin care regimen

I have sensitive and dry skin. I found a great spa. I get natural peels every ~8 weeks (the recommend 6 but I push it to 8). They cost about $30 each - less than I expected to pay. They also set me up with product line call Bioelements. Its pricier than the over the counter products, but...

Can't afford to fly--driving vacation to New England

Shopping! There are outlet malls in Kittery, ME (just past the NH state line) and North Conway, NH. North Conway is in the White Mountains, if that is still on your to do list. Attitash Mountain is in Bartlett NH (close to N. Conway) and offers a bunch of activities in the summer that I...
