Dining Alone in Disney World Tips

FYI at Prime Time Cafe you can eat at the bar without a ressie if you'd be uncomfortable in the restaurant. The bartenders are friendly and happy to oblige.

My 2 cents on the young child/alligator tragedy at the Grand Floridian

Disney like their guests to believe in 'the Disney bubble.' They have underplayed the danger until a tragedy happened. No one wants to think how nearby such danger is. Locals and frequent visitors know, but a family from Nebraska would never give a gator a thought. We can't live in a bubble...

Jungle Cruise. -- love it or hate it?

Exactly! If I'm on the boat, some one will laugh. I first rode at DL in about '62. They still shot the crocodile. Loved it then, love it now. In '06 we had a young woman skipper who saw my Donald Duck t-shirt and started calling me Donald, which is my first name. I answered immediately, so...

    Favorite Character Interaction

This happened on my trip in 2006 at Donald's Breakfastasaurus.. I was with the ex-dgf and I was ready with my Donald tshirt, Donald hat and vintage Donald watch. When Donald came in, he saw my shirt and gave me a thumbs up. Then he came over and took my hat. Well, at this point I told him to...

Liberty tree tavern is by Ressie only

During free dining, no walkups is common. In Sept 2007 I saw a sign in MK that said there was 0 availability at all MK TS and all MK resort TS. And it's only gotten worse.

    50's Prime Time or Sci-Fi

Prime Time Cafe. It is so fun and the food is very good. Not much like Perkins at all. I've eaten there every Disney trip since MGM opened. The fried chicken and pot roast are among the best meals at WDW.

Need your opinion on Disney buffets: Biergarten & Boma

The band usually starts playing after noon. First show is often 12:15.

What was the First Table Service Restaurant...

My first was Rose & Crown in '85 when you made your reservation that morning under Spaceship Earth by talking on a 2-way tv screen to reservations. Been back more than 10 times. I've had nearly everything on the menu and have eaten in the bar a couple of times.

    captains grille

We went in '11, 5 adults agesn50-67. We got 5 different entrees and 4 different desserts and everything was very good. The place was never more than half full, so no wait. I had that massive pile of crab legs and they were great.

Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party Dining?

GFC doesn't have lunch and doesn't serve dinner til 5. We made that mistake for MNNSHP one year. It caused us to be anxious and not enjoy our dinner as much. My favorite plan is an early dinner (4-5) at The Plaza, then you're right there in MK ready for action.

Help me choose an Epcot Restaurant !

I love Rose & Crown. Lots of good choices with a changing menu but lots of standards. Plus, if you get a late ADR, there's no better place to watch Illuminations.

Favorite "outside the normal" counter service meals.

Me three. Love the ribs there. I've eaten at all the qs restaurants at DHS except ABC and have thought they all had good choices.

    Illuminations question

If Wishes is scheduled for the same time, you can see it in the background of Illuminations from a spot to the right of the boat launch in front of Germany. Wishes will generally start a few minutes earlier and makes a great backdrop. I also love Illuminations from near Mexico or the patio at...

    MNSSHP FP+ Selections

First of all, how would MDE know that you're not going to a park? Would other partygoers have made FP+ ressies for after 5 but not earlier?

Strange question: Would you want Disney World to be your final resting place?

I'm a ropedrop to closing kind of guy that often dines after closing and am up and swimming before the parks open. So having never gotten any rest there, why would it be my final resting place?

    Table Service at Hollywood Studios

There are tvs at PTC too. They run a loop of clips from shows of the fifties ie Leave it to Beaver, Spin and Marty, I married Joan. Sci/Fi does the same with clips from monster movies while you sit in a car. Picking a restaurant is always a personal decision, not something strangers can...

If you had to ride a ride 5 times in a row.

TSMM-Wait, I rode it 7 times in a row in 2009. Surprised I'm the first to mention this. It was a special event called DISapolooza, a private party for DISsers at DHS. The only ride open was TSMM and the number at the party was pretty limited. There was never more than a 2 minute line. Rode...
