Forgive my ignorance, but how does the duty-free shop work? It's okay to purchase and take with you on the cruise?

I actually spoke with someone at the Hyatt MCO today, and he said the closest store to buy water/soda is about an $8.00 taxi ride each way. No shuttle service.

This is the problem we're having......We are staying at the Hyatt the night before our Magic cruise, and we are taking the Disney bus transportation to port on Saturday. Is there is any way to buy water, soda & alcohol to take on board. Is there anyplace in the airport or Hyatt that sells these?
