Coffee - Keurig vs Coffee Ninja look to go cheaper

I grind my own beans and do pour over (Melitta) . It sits on top of your cup, put filter in (or get one with a reusable filter), coffee, pour water in, and voila, an excellent cup of coffee. No unnecessary waste like the kcups, ad other than heating the water, no energy cost. The Melitta cost...

    Wits end...toxic dorm?

I also have a DD in college. I may not be popular, but some things that worked for her was she cut out the Lysol and antibacterial wipes. Antibiotics only for a proven bacterial condition. She was allowed a small humidifier, and that all helped a lot. Stress is of course the major factor, and...

2017 College Dorm shopping on a Budget

We got most everything at Target. They start to clearance in August, so we got things before she went back at the end of August. We got sheet sets under $10, comforter under $20. Still in great shape and she'll be a senior. She loves the thick, larger towels at Target and got them on sale for...

Fellow New Yorkers, question about new NYS free college tuition program.....

I doubt it. Those who don't need to worry about financial aid will still choose private colleges, and private colleges will still offer aid to those students that need it. My youngest is a now Jr at Alfred University in NYS, When she was deciding where to go to college, after the financial aid...

    Hamilton Tickets

I have been trying to get the lower price tickets ($200) for almost 2 years. Literally 5 minutes after they release them they are gone. I am not willing to risk the secondary market, and cannot afford $500+ a ticket. Luckily, the touring company is coming to my area next year, so hopefully I can...

    Inexpensive summer trip from MA.

I live 5 minutes from Lake George, and 1 1/2 hours from Lake Placid. If you like sports and hiking, Lake Placid is the place to go. Lake George has more commercial things to do (Steamboat cruise, parasailing,Six Flags, outlet shopping, etc). Personally I'd go with Lake Placid, but that's probably...

Pre-college summer classes/program for high-schoolers: worth the money?

2 friends of my DD went to RISD and SCAD, respectively, and neither did any summer programs. Both got generous merit aid. Oldest DD got her BFA in Art and Design (minor Art History) at Alfred University in 2013. She absolutely loved it there, small university, it's one of the very few in NYS...

First cruise Dream conceierge, Nassau question

My DD (25) is going on her first cruise in a month, Dream cabin 11020. Her (male) friend from college invited her as his guest to a wedding that a college friend is having during the cruise. She is one lucky girl, to go on her first cruise for free, and concierge to boot! I have never cruised...

Cheapest way to have old film developed?

I've been looking also. I recently found 40+ rolls of film and disposable cameras that need to be developed, all taken at least 10 years ago. Someone told me Costco, but there are none within 4-5 hours of here, and I'm not going to buy a membership for that only.

Hot Topic Store - shirt sizing

My DD used to work at Hot Topic and she was a size 16. Usually she had to get XXL . They mostly are slim junior sizes, and are not forgiving for anyone with a bust. Since you have to mail order anyway, try Torrid.com. They are owned by the same company and are a plus size (12 and up) store. They...
