    April weather

Been in April many times. Shorts & tshirts in the day but definitely a light jacket or cardigan for the evening. We have had a couple of occasions when it has been chilly, including last year, where we had to wear jeans and hoodies to the park. Last April we arrived at Universal Studios at 8am...

And now for something completely different...

Ouch. I don't think we paid even half that, but it was probably 5-6 years ago now.

    Baggage on Virgin flights

    Yes; you can. Details here.

And now for something completely different...

I think it was on 35th. It was right near Penn Station.

And now for something completely different...

We stayed in a Hampton Inn in NYC which was great - no frills but very clean and brilliantly located - but it's over £200 a night now :eek::faint: It was great though - breakfast was included but on the mornings that we didn't have time to stay for breakfast, they put together a brown bag...

Careful what brand you wear to a theme park

Had never considered it because I don't wear brand names much, and, even if I did, personally the French Connection logo isn't something I would ever wear. Unsurprised - it's a family theme park and there are lots of rules about "appropriate" clothing (some of which are enforced, some not).

    Virgin or BA?

Not LGW to MAN but flew similar long haul distances with both VA and BA in 2015. No significant difference; book whichever is cheaper. BA was significantly late but they ensured we arrived at our final destination within a reasonable time and dealt with the large number of passengers who had...

Has anyone flown indirect via Dulles?

You need to stop saying that this is "not an indirect flight". It is two planes, with two flight numbers. If it were a direct flight, it is ONE flight number (even if it makes stops along the way - common with very long journeys e.g. London-Sydney - which means that, though direct, it is not a...

    What would you do?

I'd either stay onsite at Universal - but then you have the cost of the tickets - or have the first couple of days in a nice offsite hotel - maybe do a bit of shopping, Orlando Eye etc. Think about it this way: DAY 1: fly all day, meal, sleep DAY 2: can't do Disney yet, sleep DAY 3: You can...

    40th birthday ideas

Outside of WDW you could.... Do the Orlando Eye at I-Drive 360 - you can even book your own pod. Take a helicopter ride or a balloon flight Visit Discovery Cove & swim with dolphins Visit Gatorland - and they have zip wires there now Do Cirque Du Soleil or Blue Man Group Give him the chance...

When good time to buy dollars?

Most travel insurance - and indeed home insurance - won't cover you for much cash. We are in the fee-free credit card bunch, typically we spend well under $100 in cash per trip. We don't pay much attention to the exchange rate but it's usually around $1.50. Haven't seen much above $1.60 in the...

Character meal - opinions / advice please!

Done 1900 Park Fare, Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace, Cape May Café, O'Hana... Of those, Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare were the favourites, but Cape May Café is good too and cheaper (but more difficult to get to!). Probably wouldn't do Chef Mickey's again - too noisy/cafeteria like - or O'Hana...

    Another frustration with Virgin Holidays!

They do have more space. You can't lean against the wall of the plane because of that, which bothers some people (not us). I feel horribly travel sick during turbulence and for that reason try to avoid the back of the plane. Around the wings is best if turbulence is a factor in your husband's...

    Another frustration with Virgin Holidays!

The seats reclined. There was no choice of meal by the time they reached us - we got whatever the rest of the plane didn't want. It wasn't good. Being stood over by other passengers waiting for the toilets was worse than sitting next to someone on the outbound. Wouldn't it be better to take a...

    Another frustration with Virgin Holidays!

There's much less of a rush now they charge £25 per seat per flight. We did book for our last VA flight (long haul but not to Orlando) and even about 4 weeks out, we could have had the two back seats together. This was at peak time, too. We had those seats on another flight and would never book...

    10 day trip?

We usually do around ten days and always buy the best value ticket for whichever parks we plan to visit, which is usually 14 days. We usually do 2-4 parks over a 10 day period which is plenty.

    car hire prices

We used Avis, same category (Focus) but £17/day.

    Last minute trip in January

We had a car for 10 days last trip and spent $40 on gas.

    Rest Days?

We don't do specific rest days. We plan to go to the parks at rope drop for part days every day. We don't plan in too many parks so if we miss a day, it doesn't matter - but that rarely happens. If you plan a suitable number of parks, you have the flexibility to do what you want, when you want.
