    Tipping.....

No, it's NOT customary. It's unusual, not common, and it's optional. My mom worked in the hotel business for years in Florida. IT. IS. NOT. CUSTOMARY. Mousekeepers at WDW are full time salaried workers who do not rely on tips to live. If you want to tip, fine, but don't try to force your...

Just back from CR (review) update on page 2 pics added

I've had crummy mousekeeping when I tipped and superb mousekeeping when I did NOT tip. In the end, I realized it makes no sense to tip for a service you have not received yet, that you have technically paid for in full, at an establishment where it's a non-tipped salaried position...

    Left or Right

Which entrance!? We always enter through the International Gateway and head right - toward France, Morocco, Japan. From the posts here I guess we're going against the flow!

    Disney Dining Experience Card

You can't use someone else's discount card. I have a DDE card and even my HUSBAND cannot use it with his id and credit card. Yes, they check very carefully and I've been told more than once that a manager has to approve the discount. If I recall correctly, discussing ways to cheat Disney is...

Did you ever create your own Lullabies for your babies/children?

I made up all kinds of lullabyes for my children when they were little, but don't remember them. I do remember a song my middle child made up for himself, though, when he was about 4. The title is "Fluffy little meatball" and it goes like this: Fluffy little meatball. Fluffy little...

    Adding one night at CR

We did the same thing around Memorial Day weekend, checked in for one night at the Contemporary so we could experience MK up close, and then moved to the Yacht Club for 3 nights. My story has an amazing twist though, because we were upgraded at the CR from a regular MK room to a 14th floor club...

    Smoke from brush fires.

You can SEE the effect of the forest fires if you look at the Swan/Dolphin webcam at instacam.com. If you look at today's shot from 9:00am, it's a complete blur of smoke! But by mid-day, it burned off.

    Room Animals

We've found towel animals in our room on checkin several times. I don't believe there's a relationship between kids in the room and towel animals (we are ALL kids at Disney). And I know there is absolutely NO relationship between tips and towel animals. You can't buy magic.

    Confessions of the Resort Changers

I book right up to my budget limit and I still end up changing everytime! Usually two or three times! I think planning a Disney Vacation is like creating a work of art. The process isn't over until the day your plan becomes reality. Until then, you can always dream of ways to make it better.

No More Smoking at WDW Resort Hotels

Here's what will happen: people will continue to smoke in their rooms, but they'll get charged a "cleanup" fee of $250 to $300 after they leave. We just got back from a trip where we stayed at a Courtyard Marriott (a smoke-free hotel) and at the Yacht Club (on a non-smoking floor). At both...

    I think I got a deal...

Oh yes! I think you got a great deal. My AP rate for a moderate last month was $124, and I thought that was good. Too bad about the insurance, but I think you got an upgrade at a great price. Have a great trip! P.S. We will be there 8/12 through 8/16 - Yacht Club

    can I do this...........

Yea verily... But I would expect Universal to have similar policies and for good reason... besides, who wants to make 2 deposits for one vacation!

    can I do this...........

No. When you book they take all your personal information - address, phone - as well as the names of everyone in your party. You can't turn around and book the same party at a different resort. You'd have to plunk down TWO deposits and fudge your personal information on the second ressie...

    good room veiws

We had a room front & center in Conch Key, building 7. It's next to Narcoosee's and the closest building to MK. Our room was one floor below the room they filmed for the Travel Channel special on Grand Floridian! There are only a few regular lagoon views in this building, because there were...

    Polynesian Kona Coffee

They are 4-cup, but I think it's "mini" cups - like six ounces! Enough to fill the room mugs for two people one and a half times each. I always seem to end up making two pots in the morning. P.S. Housekeeping will give you extra coffee packets if you ask.

Annual income of deluxe guests vs. moderate vs. economy...

I'm with antmaril... I could afford a few weeks at a value but I'd rather save up for a weekend at a deluxe. I don't get it when people say "I'm only there to sleep and wash up". I'm there to relax, feel pampered, and soak up some ambience and luxury.

    Tipping

Thanks, RustyScupper, for providing some actual facts and not just opinion! My only problem with this topic is that newbies on boards like this are misled into thinking that housekeepers at WDW are slave labor (not true), that you're "stiffing them" if you don't tip (not true, and that term...

    Contemporary Questions

Can anyone tell me where, exactly, the "Contemporary Grounds" coffee bar is located inside the Contemporary? And what is the highest floor in the tower for non-concierge rooms?
