    Job as an Accounting Clerk?

If you don't mind me asking, how do you like the work? Is it boring? Challenging? Easy but not mind-numbing? I'm hoping that if/when I change careers that I find something that I enjoy, or at least can tollerate doing for the next 30 years of my life! ;)

    Best Budget Tip for 2006?

We've stoped eating out so much, that's saved us a ton. We aren't traveling for our vacations this year, either (except maybe to fly and see our parents, but we'll use frequent flyer miles for that and stay with family). Those are our two biggest cost savers. Oh, and we're fixing my car as it...

    Ladies - purse or backpack?

Backpack, for sure! I kept a thin wallet in my front pocket with my id, park pass, credit card and cash. The backpack was used for sunscreen, water bottles, hat and sun glasses storage while on rides, and helped carry any small purchases that we didn't want to bother with package delivery...

    Job as an Accounting Clerk?

That's not too bad, beats $8 an hour at Starbucks! Anyone else with any ballpark figures or other advice? And yes, it's the Chicago area (NW burbs) and yes it would be full-time work.

    Wedding Dilemma--Am I Wrong??--Big update on pg. 3

But if that's the case, the groom should have said "Well, the bride hates the spouse of so-and-so and that person's attendence would ruin the wedding, the only way around it is to say 'no spouses'. I'm so sorry about this and mean no disrespect to your wife, in fact we'll really miss her"...

    Job as an Accounting Clerk?

I have a small chance of being layed off in the next 12 months or so. I'm not worried about having a job tomorrow, but the next 6 to 12 months looks less certain, if that makes any sense. Anyway, I'm looking for a "parachute" of sorts, since I'm not sure I could find work in my current...

We Just Saved a Ton by

That's great! My car insurance is with State Farm. Since I only pay $50 a month to cover my car (full coverage to boot!), I doubt anyone could beat it. Even if they could, I wouldn't switch anyway, SF service has been great to me over the years!

Need advice...possible layoff...save or pay extra on debt?

Already there! We locked away the CC's in October and haven't charged a dime since! Paid cash for Christmas (not that we spent much on presents anway :) ), recent auto repairs, and begining rehab on our upstairs bathroom (which was 80% nessesary, some of the fixtures were leaking. 20% of it...

Need advice...possible layoff...save or pay extra on debt?

I'd thought about that, but the last thing I want facing a layoff is a higher house payment! We default on that and we'll be living in a cardboard box in a hurry!

Need advice...possible layoff...save or pay extra on debt?

I ran our cc balances through a payment calculator. Even if we increase the monthly payments to the max we possibly could (which wouldn't be by much, since we're paying about 25% of our monthly take home to the cc's already anyway!), it would only cut the time it would take to pay them off by 2...

Need advice...possible layoff...save or pay extra on debt?

I've read DR, although we aren't exactly following his plan. But our savings is already WELL over the recomended $1000. Thanks though!

Need advice...possible layoff...save or pay extra on debt?

Yes, thank goodness I insisted we put all the gift money from the wedding in savings! I have no intention of touching savings short of the car dieing or the roof springing a leak. I'm just torn between paying down the debt faster verses increasing our savings even more. If I do lose the job...

Need advice...possible layoff...save or pay extra on debt?

When we get them paid off, we'd be about there. Our original goal was to pay off the CC's so I could afford go part time, allowing us to start having kids. So we wer planing on my pay going down 50% once I was working part time anyway. BTW, we locked up the cc's in October, so we haven't...

Show of hands:Who else's house looks like ToysRUS threw up in it?

My nephews play room looks like that all the time, to the point that I can't stand to give them toys anymore, they already have every toy known to man. So I give them books and art supplies instead. Right now they are into making "newspapers" so I found jumbo sized art paper pads (at Target if...

Need advice...possible layoff...save or pay extra on debt?

I've been reading the Budget Board for a while now, and you all seem so knowledgeable! I may be getting laid off in about 6 months to 1 years time. I say may because even if my job is eliminated, I have a very real chance of being put in another area at the same pay rate (the company is...

    Inexpensive gift for coffee/tea/coco lovers!

I had to give my co-workers gifts on Wednesday, and what I came up with went over really well, so I thought I'd share! We had a limit of $10 per person and it had to be Christmas themed. I had 3 people to buy for. So I decided to make a "Mug of Christmas Cheer" since all three of them...

Do you have a Nativity displayed in your home?

Yes. It's the same one my mom had up when we were kids. She didn't want it when my parents relocated to AZ, so I got it. I love it, I never see any in the stores now that are as nice as the one I have. Which is too bad, because the shepard is missing and I've never found another one that...

My christmas shopping is turning into a nightmare. (vent, vent)

If you know what you want to buy him, try calling around to the stores to make sure they have it/them in stock before you drive out. You may even be able to but some things on hold, so you can just stop at the service desk and pick up your items! Also, if you can't avoid shopping this...

    Netflix: Which plan?

I signed up for the 2 per month unlimited. I figure I can always upgrade to 3 per month later if I find I don't get them fast enough. Thanks for the advice! I just put a whole bunch of stuff in my queue! There are a few tv series that I've been too cheap to buy but really would like to...
