Disney Fantasy, November 2, 2013, Eastern Caribbean Trip Report!
Hi all! We recently returned from our very first cruise and what an absolutely amazing experience it was! I'm so looking forward to sharing our experience and pictures with you. I hope that you enjoy reading about our trip as much as I enjoyed reading the reports from others in the time leading up to our cruise.
I have a short pre-trip report that tells a little bit about us if you'd like to read it before getting started on the actual trip report. I'll post a link to it below.
This first post will eventually have links to each day's report and to all of my pictures on Flickr. I took several thousand pictures so obviously I'm not going to post them all here, but if anyone loves looking at pictures as much as I do, they will be available for you to enjoy!
Let's get started! :cool1:

Room Overview/Pictures ~ http://www.disboards.com/showpost.ph...7&postcount=49
Our day got off to a very early start, and not in a very good way. Brian woke up around 3:00 am in severe pain. He toughed it out for about an hour but ended up going to the emergency room. It was a stressful night, he was so worried that it was going to be something serious and we weren't going to get to go. I tried to stay calm and believe for the best. His eventual diagnosis was kidney stones. Yuck, but at least it wasn't going to keep us from traveling. He didn't get home from the ER until after the time we had originally planned on leaving, the weather was horrible, and we had to stop and pick up some prescriptions for him before we could get on the road. Around 9:30 we were finally on our way, the rain was so bad we could hardly see the cars in front of us for about the first hour. I was happy to be going but between both us being so tired, Brian still not feeling so good, and the torrential rain, my spirits were a bit down, and they would stay that way for most of the drive over.
Our first stop was the Best Friends Pet Care facility at Walt Disney World. If you ever need a place to leave your pet while you are on vacation, I highly recommend them. Brownie was not very happy to be left behind (he never is) but he always does well there. It was really hard for me to leave him, it was the longest he's ever stayed at the kennel before and knowing I couldn't be in contact with them for several days was rough. There were so many people in line when we got there it took over a half an hour to get him checked in. We finally got to say our goodbyes though and then it was on to Port Canaveral!

Brownie being very sad about Mommy and Daddy going on vacation without him. :(
The weather had begun to improve and my mood had too. I started to get excited again and when we caught our first glimpse of the Fantasy every bit of joy returned. I could hardly believe we were almost there!

We arrived around 12:30, dropped our checked bags with a porter and parked in the garage at the Port. I wasted no time getting a picture with the ship! It was super windy in the garage and it was still misting rain, but that's okay, we were officially on vacation!

There is a breezeway on the third floor of the parking garage that leads to the cruise terminal, we showed our IDs and were directed down the escalator to the security check point. I got into a tiny bit of trouble at the security area. I saw the signs that said you weren't allowed to take pictures but then I saw this adorable bronze like piece of art up on the wall that had a Mickey (or possibly Minnie) mermaid on it and I took my camera out without thinking. Those security guards are fast! I barely had it out of my bag before one of them was telling me to put it away. Not a problem, I honestly just had a momentary memory lapse. Security was quick and painless, then it was up the escalator to the actual terminal.

The DCL terminal is beautiful. The colors, the decor, the natural lighting that comes in, it all creates a very lovely space. I was a bit surprised to see Christmas decorations up already, they weren't overwhelming though and at least they weren't playing Christmas music!
Cruise 2013 021 by princessm112877, on Flickr
We spent a few minutes just looking around the terminal, taking some pictures, and then moved on to the check-in line. We were only there a few minutes before we were directed to a clerk. Check in was very fast and before we knew it we were in line to board! They were already in open boarding at that point so no waiting at all. As we approached the Mickey funnel there was a CM there handing out the Navigators for that day so I took one and put it in my bag to look at while we ate lunch.

When you first enter the funnel is the first time you hand over your key to be scanned, then you wait in line for your embarkation photo. This took a little bit of time but it wasn't too bad, and the picture was worth it to us, we liked it the best out of all the ones we had taken.

After that you walk up the gangway, they say your name, and you are finally on board this glorious vessel! The ship was also already decked out for Christmas.

It was right around 1:30 so we went ahead and went up to our floor to see if our cabin was ready. We waited about 5 minutes before they dropped the ropes and headed back to check out our stateroom. We were in 7192, which is one of the aft staterooms with the extended verandah. It was a really awesome location with some incredible views.

The lounger on the right would become one of my favorite places to relax!
That's all for tonight, will post more tomorrow!
Day 1/Part 2
After dropping our carry on bags in the room and looking around for a few minutes we headed out to make some dining and beverage seminar reservations. Our first stop was La Piazza, this is where they were holding sign ups for the beverage seminars, we signed up for Mixology and Wine & Chocolate. Within a few minutes we had our tickets and were on our way.
Next we went up to the check-in desk for Palo & Remy to see if we could get a brunch reservation at Palo for the next day. They had an opening available so we were very happy! :thumbsup2
Once that was taken care of the growling in our tummies told us it well past time for some lunch. We went down to Cabanas, stopping first to get a picture with Nigel. Then we filled our plates, found a table next to the window and settled in to enjoy our first meal on board!

And since I've kissed everything at Walt Disney World I had to get some smooches in on the ship too! Nigel could have at least taken the sardine out of his beak first!

Roast Beef, mashed potatoes, carrots, macaroni & cheese, bread/butter, turkey chipotle wrap, and a chicken tender.
We had a view of the Carnival Dream next door and saw some dolphins as well.

After lunch we took a stroll around deck 11 and got a drink of the day. It was still very gloomy outside and I wondered if we would even be able to have the sail away party outside. After our stroll we went back to our room and spent some more time out on the verandah. I also noticed we had a note in our room with the amount of our shipboard credit, and it was way less than it was supposed to be, so we went down to Guest Services to check on that. Turns out the travel agent we used had not added hers yet, but it was taken care of before the night was over. We also signed up for the galley tour while we were there.
Brian is a smoker, and he was needing a break at this point, so he headed up to deck 13 and I hung out in the atrium taking some pictures. For anyone interested in the smoking areas they were, deck 13 on one side of the Currents bar, deck 12 on one of the outside sections of the Meridian bar, and the aft section of deck 4 but only between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am, the others you could smoke at any time.
I was really in love with the atrium, we never passed through without me stopping and taking several pictures.

We met back up again outside The Tube for our muster drill. We were muster station O, but muster station P was also in The Tube. To say it was hot and crowded before they started letting people inside would be an understatement. We finally did get to go in though and it was very organized, they parked people the same way they park cars at the theme parks.
Cruise 2013 060 by princessm112877, on Flickr
Waiting for the drill to start.
After the drill was over we headed up to deck 12 to watch the Sail Away Party. We were able to get a pretty decent spot next to the railing. The show was really cute and it was a great way to kick off the cruise. The excitement from all the people was really an amazing thing.

Towards the end of the party Brian noticed that we were moving, so we went over to the outer railing. My mom had really wanted to see us on the webcam as we sailed away, and she did spot us.
Cruise 2013 133 by princessm112877, on Flickr I was pretty much obsessed with this building as we left Port, does anyone know what it is?
Cruise 2013 135 by princessm112877, on Flickr Thanks Fish Lips for making my mom happy!
We stayed up on deck for awhile but then decided to go back to our room and see if our luggage was there yet. It was so we started to unpack and continued watching land fade from sight. While we were unpacking, our room host, Vivek, stopped in to introduce himself and see if we needed anything. He was very sweet and we really enjoyed talking to him over the course of the week.
Once we were unpacked we got ready for dinner and headed down to the Walt Disney Theatre for the first show. We really didn't care much for the first show, it was basically an advertisement for the ship and not a very good one at that. We did really enjoy the Ventriloquist though, her name was Lynn Trefzger and she was really funny.
We had some time to spare before dinner so we wandered around some more, took a look through Shutters to see where our binder was, then walked through the art gallery and soaked in the atrium some more.

Following along! We'll be on the EC next October for our honeymoon so I'm drinking up all the EC TRs I can find! Can't wait for more!
I have to go run some errands but will work on getting some more up when I get home. :goodvibes
Hi there! Great report so far. We are on the fantasy eastern cruise in April of 2015. So you get it, the wait is horrendous! Looking forward to hearing more about your trip...:thumbsup2

Welcome Grumpy's Wife and LuvLuvLuv! :cool1:
Enjoyed you trip report so far! Will be checking back for updates :-)
We're on a four day cruise for our first cruise, so it's extra fun to read your 7 day report - I can't imagine this being our last...
Day 1/Part 3
Our dining rotation was AERAERA, I had requested that in advance and was happy that we received it. So our first dinner was in Animator's Palate, we were at table 85, which seats 6, and is in a really nice location. You have a good view of two of the large screens.
We were seated with two other couples and they did a really great job matching us up. We were all close to the same age, there was a military connection among all of the men, and several other things that just helped us all have a common ground. We got along great!
Our Head Server was Roberto, our Server was Benny, and our Assistant Server was Hazel. They were all fantastic. Roberto came by every night without fail to make sure everything was going well, and Benny and Hazel were like family by the time the week was over, we really came to love the two of them.
This night was the Crush show. It's very cute! Since we weren't right next to the screens we didn't have any direct interaction with Crush but it was really fun to see him talking to the little kids. The screens started out with sketches of the Finding Nemo characters then as dinner progressed you would see them swimming by before Crush came around and started talking to everyone. The ceilings changed as well, they were normal when you first sat down, then turned blue and sparkly to make you feel like you were in the water with Crush. Crush also throws a mean dance party at the end of your meal, that was a lot of fun for everyone. After that the screens returned to larger sketches of the characters.

We really enjoyed our first dinner. In fact we enjoyed almost everything we ate on the ship, some things were definitely better than others, but for the most part it was all well prepared, hot food was hot, cold food was cold, things were seasoned well. I have no real complaints in the food department.
I liked how the bread service was different each night, this first night it was Garlic and Herb Focaccia with Rosemary Olive Oil.
Cruise 2013 200 by princessm112877, on Flickr
My favorite appetizer of the whole trip was on this night. The Black Truffle Pasta Pursiettes. These were divine! Pasta Purses filled with Truffle scented Cheese and coated with a delicate Champagne Sauce. Brian and I ordered two different appetizers and shared them, I wish we had both ordered our own serving of these, I will dream about them until our next cruise!
Cruise 2013 210 by princessm112877, on Flickr
The other appetizer we shared was the Serrano Ham with Tomato Bread and Marinated Olives. I ate about 10 pounds of Italian meats, olives and cheese this week I'm sure!
Cruise 2013 212 by princessm112877, on Flickr
We had the same thing for our soup/salad course, the Baked Potato and Cheddar Cheese Soup.
Cruise 2013 213 by princessm112877, on Flickr
We both had the same thing for our entree as well, Ginger-Teriyaki dusted Angus beef Tenderloin on Wasabi Mashed Potatoes with Bok Choy and a Tamarind Barbecue Reduction.
Cruise 2013 214 by princessm112877, on Flickr
I had one of the no sugar added options for my dessert, Duo Chocolate Cake, Layers of Brownie and Truffle Mousse with Caramel Sauce. I'm not a big sweets eater, I had more dessert on this trip than I've had in probably the last two years combined, but it was all pretty tasty.
Cruise 2013 215 by princessm112877, on Flickr
Brian had the Cookies & Cream Sundae
Cruise 2013 217 by princessm112877, on Flickr
I also had a glass of Apple Ice Wine, I love this stuff.
Cruise 2013 216 by princessm112877, on Flickr
Next up, a fun end to our first day!
I'm along for the ride! :wave2:
I'm going on the Fantasy for the Eastern Caribbean in less than a month, so reading trip reports like this make me even more excited! (if that's even possible lol)
