Looking for feedback concerning VGF fixed weeks

I think week 52 is the most desirable on an economical standpoint because of its true point values (based on current point charts) on some years where you can actually gain "free points" for that year above the points you purchased for the fixed week. Aparently, by the time California was registered for sales this week was supposedly already sold out. I ended up buying week 51 which I thought would be the second most desirable for the same reasons which was still available; however, I would gain less "free points"on some years than week 52 would give.

It looks as though these two weeks are the only exceptions where the rest of the fixed weeks in a year you will actually always use more points for opting to use your fixed week because there is no or little variance in its true point values (the actual yearly point cost for the week remains the same or close to it). This would make the rest of the weeks more of an emotional/tactical choice for me rather the best economical choice. Week 51 and 52 have low and high actual point values outside of its original purchased point cost on different years because the dates in their weeks vary yearly between the lowest and highest cost seasons. All anyone would have to do is opt out on the lower valued years and get the full value of the points you originally paid for on those years. Am I missing any other week that may have similar advantages?

Since its obvious these two weeks are popular, I find myself questioning how many really did buy these weeks with intent to go every year or to take advantage of the above or even if they were aware that on some years they could be paying up to almost 40% more points on some years at its extreme lower valued years. I would rather have all the fixed week purchaser's for those 2 weeks purchase with the above intents rather than with intents to use every year so that there would be more availability for them on particularly low valued years. Maybe if those owners were actually aware then they would decide to opt out on those years; I know I will not be using my week 51 on those years.

Potential seasonal point reallocation is one factor that I think has made the earlier weeks in December desirable as well as those purchased week would gain the same advantages on a more consistent yearly bases if the true value of these weeks were ever to increase which is only speculation at this point. My hope is that they reallocate earlier dates in week 51 to the primere season which would then make week 51 better than week 52. Again, only hopeful speculation; However, since Grand Californian primere season starts earlier, I think its not a too far fetched thought and want to believe that DVC may do the same at the WDW resorts. A reasonable possibility?

We bought week 49 because we vacation at WDW in early December each year. For us there isn't any benefit to vacation closer to or during Christmas when it is really crowded. There may be a point advantage but that isn't why we bought. We wanted a guaranteed lake view, 1 bedroom, at VGF.

My December fixed-week purchase was also driven by the desire to have a guaranteed lake view studio at VGF during holiday time. Unless something comes up that prevents me from doing so, I intend to use my fixed-week every year.

Honestly, seasonal point allocation and fixed-week economics did not factor into my decision. Rather, eating holiday treats and drinking hot chocolate prepared in the lobby's giant gingerbread house did.

I know a lot of people don't seem to understand why anyone would want the fixed week option other than maybe for holidays, but I don't see a lot of drawbacks. If you know you are going to go the same week every year, it locks you in and , if not, you still get the points to use some other time. Sure, it cost a few more points initially but you get to USE those points if you opt out that year. I'm still not sure if I would buy a fixed year because our trip dates seem to vary a bit too much but it's intriguing.
