Disney Wonder 4 night 3/7/13 Miami, Key West, Nassau, Castaway Cay
This was our second Disney cruise, the first was on the Dream in Feb 2011. The Wonder is a little smaller, and older. Although there is a little wear and tear, like places where things have been repainted or patched, overall I found the ship to be in good shape. The staff in Flounders Reef was especially good I thought. Although the staff at Guest Services were very friendly and polite, service there was very slow. We found the food to be very good in the main dining rooms, although our particular assistant server seemed not to be able to keep up, the asst is the one that brings drinks, and we never had our coffee with our dessert, and two of the nights we didn't get it at all. Castaway Cay did not disappoint. Clean, well organized, and plenty of chairs and umbrellas for everyone. We learned from our first visit that it is worth the extra walk or tram ride to go to the second family beach, it is a little less crowded. We sat between the Sand Bar and the Cabanas and there were open chairs around us. On our visit the post office on CC was closed and they had a sign that Guest Services would mail any postcards you wished to send. My experience was that Guest Services was not well equipped to handle postage, they had difficulty locating the stamps and there was confusion if they should use Bahamiam postage (which is what you would purchase on the island) or US postage which would then require them to be mailed in Miami so you don't get the CC postmark. For those of you flying to Miami the day before your cruise, we tried the Comfort Suites Miami Airport North after seeing it mentioned in the Disboards and we found it to be a great choice. Nice helpful staff, new clean attractive rooms, free transfers to/from the airport, free breakfast, you can get a package with transfers to the cruise terminal and a bottle of wine, and if you are a member of Choice Privileges their reward program they will also give you two drink tickets for the bar. The only thing we found baffling was they would not do a package with transfers back to the hotel at the end of the cruise for the same price, it was $10 more per person. The cruise terminal in Miami seemed to work OK, on the way in it was easy to navigate, and on the way out the lines through baggage and customs were moving OK.
