St. Thomas or St. Maarten for shopping/ snorkeling?

My DH complains that we never get to see much of the town we are stopped at because we are always out on a boat snorkeling. So for our upcoming cruise, we have agreed to only snorkel at one port, leaving the other port for shopping. Which would you do where? We were considering the Doubloon Turtle and Cove Sail and Snorkel in St. Thomas. We are diehard snorkelers and will be traveling with our 10 year old daughter who loves to snorkel too. Thanks!

I'd shop in St. Maarten and snorkel in St. John...

I did the full day beach and snorkel at St. Thomas, and it is the same boat company. It was AWESOME! the best excursion I have ever been on!

I agree, snorkel St. Thomas, shop St. Maarten. Although there *is* great shopping in St. Thomas, everything I read says the snorkeling in St. Maarten is mediocre at best. But the shopping there is very good!
