DDP and split stay?

Thanks to a great suggestion on the Resorts forum, we are considering a split stay at POFQ and AKL. If we are doing the DDP, can we still have one plan for 6 nights, or will we need to do two plans for 3 nights each? In that case, we will need to use our credits for the first three nights by the end of the third day? Any experience with this?

I have done the math and the DDP would work for us, but not if we would need to use half of our credits by mid-stay.

I don't think Disney actually recognizes Split Stays, at least that's what I've gathered on the Dis. Here is what I've come to understand.

With the DDP you have until midnight on the day you check out to use your credits.

If you're doing the regular DDP you will get 1 snack, 1 CS and 1 TS credit per person for every night of your stay. (I'm pretending there are 4 of you are all Disney Adult.)

Day1, place 1- You'll have 12 snacks, 12 CS, 12 TS. You'll use these up until midnight on Day 4.

Day 4-You'll have any leftover credits to use, they'll expire at midnight. You'll also have a new batch of credits. They will be good Day 4, Day 5, Day 6 and Expire at midnight on Day 7 of your trip.

When doing the math, make sure you include the fact that you need to buy a second set of tickets for the second stay. To buy the dining plan, unless you're staying using DVC points or an AP ticketless package, you have to buy at least 1 day MYW tickets for each person in the room. These tickets don't expire until you've actually started using them (14 days from when you first scan them at the turnstiles) but it is a cost you have to pay now.

Both true! Something else to keep in mind is that even though you have until midnight of each check out day to use the DDP for that particular stay, you can not combine the credits from both stays for one meal. I found that out the hard way a few years ago.:rolleyes1 As an AP holder I have used the DDPs for split stays multiple times,( booking AP ticketless pkgs---would not do it though if I had to buy park tickets for each stay). Anyway, a few years ago I was doing a split stay at CSR/YC using the DxDDP for both stays and had an ADR for the night I was switching from CSR to YC. Knowing I had to use all the credits from the CSR stay by midnight of the CSR check out day, I wanted to use them first, so used one for lunch, then planned on combining that last credit from the CSR stay with one from the YC stay to pay for that 2 credit meal at Yachtsman. When it came time to pay, I handed the waiter both room keys and told him what I was doing. He informed me that even though both sets of credits was still good there was no way to use two credits from two different reservations to pay for one meal. He even checked with the manager, who was apologetic, but said there was simply no way they could do it. I had to used two credits from the second stay and because it was too late that night, I just lost the last credit from my first stay. Since then, if doing a Signature meal on the night that I'm switching resorts, I'll either make sure I use all the credits from that first stay before dinner then use 2 credits from the second stay for dinner, or I'll use a credit from the second stay for lunch that day and then use the last two credits from the first stay for dinner. In other words, the day that you switch resorts you will have credits available from both stays, but make sure you have enough credits from just one stay to pay for each meal that day, as you can not combine credits from two stays to pay for one meal.

Thank you for all of the great info!

So to clarify, because on a upcoming solo trip I am very interested in staying in several places that I never get to stay in with family:

On the day of check out/check in I will essentially have TWO room keys, one from the room I'm leaving and one from the room I'm going to. The room I'm leaving's DxDP credits have to be spent by midnight by the day of checkout and the ones that are starting that day are also available for use?

Example where Day 3 is my question:

Check-in day 1 @ AKL: Use 1 TS credit
Day 2 @AKL: Use 3 TS Credit
Day 3 Check out AKL, Check in @ Poly:, Use 1 TS credit on Poly card for Lunch, Use 2 TS credit on AKL card for a Signature dinner.
Day 4 Check in @ Poly: etc etc...

Split stays are considered entirely different and separate reservations.

If you have a dining plan on the first stay, it will carry over to the second stay ONLY on the first day of the second stay (the day you check out of Resort #1 and into Resort #2).

If you have dining credits left over on the first stay you may use them on the day you check out of resort #1 and into resort #2. However, you must use the key card from resort #1 to pay for dining with credits associated with resort #1. This may mean you need to carry two key cards for a day.

You may NOT combine credits from resort #1 with credits from resort #2. For example: you have one TS credit remaining from the first stay. You want a 2 credit meal at Le Cellier on the day you change resorts. So you want to use 1 TS credit from resort #1, combined with 1 TS credit from resort #2, to pay for your 2 credit meal at Le Cellier. You cannot do this. You must use 2 credits from the same resort account, you cannot combine them from different resort accounts. You can use 2 credits from resort #2 to pay for that meal, but you will still have that outstanding credit from resort #1.

Remember that since you are on separate stays, unless you are in the very limited categories that are able to book ticketless packages (annual passholders or military) or you are a DVC member booking through member services or renting through a DVC member, you are required to buy at least 1 day park tickets (2 days for free dining) with each separate reservation in order to add a dining plan to both reservations. If you don't need tickets at all with the second reservation and you're on a package, there isn't any way to get a DDP with it unless you agree to buy at least 1 day park tickets per person with that second reservation.

Excellent!! Sounds like what I want to do will work perfectly then. Thanks ever so for the guidance!
