Restaurant Marrakesh kids' menu?
 

My son loves middle eastern food. His favorite is falafal, but cous cous comes in a close second. However, looking at the kids menu for this restaurant, they don't have any Moroccan food at all on the kid's menu except for "Moroccan Style Pasta" which looks like code for spaghetti. We'll be on the dining plan. Will they let him order one of the actual Moroccan foods? Or will he be stuck with generic pasta. Also, he's a vegetarian, so that means on the kid's menu, the pasta is the only option.

Why are the kid's menus all so blah? Chicken fingers, hamburger or pasta are the only choices at a Moroccan restaurant? Really?

It's a tough call with the DDP and restaurants not operated by Disney. Worst case, I'd say bring something from Tangierine Café, which has all the things it sounds like your DS likes. I would imagine, though, that they'd try to work with you to get a kid-sized portion of something off the adult menu, just for the sake of being good ambassadors. I'm sorry I can't be more sure about it, but if you can take a little time to check with them when you're in Epcot, they might be able to let you know if they could give your son something more adventurous on the DDP, or whether you might be better off bringing in something from Tangierine Café.

Thanks. I cancelled our ADR there and decided we'll eat at Tangerine Cafe again. We really liked it last time, but with the DDP, we always end up with too many TS credits we don't use, since all the kids menus are such "blah" food. Since he's our only child, I don't know about other kids. Do they really want to eat chicken nuggets and hamburger all the time? My son doesn't eat typical "kids" food, so finding good TS menus is hard. We changed for an ADR at Teppan Edo, where the kids menu has something he'll eat.

You can look into upgrading him to the adult dining plan. You will need to get him an adult park ticket as well though. We have free dining & I upgraded my 8 year old son to adult. He is thrilled!!

In Nov, it was code for "bow tie" pasta! I would ask the waiter for a substitution to a child's portion of veg. cous-cous. They may not do it, they can be a bit difficult to deal with. In Nov, paying OOP , out of the 7 of us, the 2 picky 11 year old girls wanted the kids pasta and the waiter said, no, 'They have to order from the adult menu. "

I told him, 5 adult meals, a bottle of wine and 2 kids pasta, or we get up and eat elsewhere, you decide.

He took our order! Ask, all they can say is no!

I applaud your and your son for not falling pray to the chicken nugget, mac & cheese diet that has become the "custom" kids fare at most restaurants! I don't know if you've ever eaten at Ragland's in DTD but their kids menu offers many of the items on the adult menu, just smaller portions and the food is very good!

My kids do love the Mac and Cheese, but they also like the pizza at Sanaa (made fresh with the naan bread dough) and Via Napoli, the fish at Sanaa, the fish sticks at Flying Fish, the pasta Alfredo at Flying Fish, the Japanese-steakhouse stuff at Teppan Edo, the fried chicken at HDDR (and, by extension, I am assuming they'd like the fried chicken at Trail's End), my almost 6-yo likes shrimp (places like 'Ohana and Kona), and the 8yo likes salmon or steak if it's on the kids' menu. And, of course, any of the buffets will have plenty of choices, and the kids are not restricted to the "kids" section.

I'd suggest using the TS credits for a signature place like Flying Fish, which I've found is great for kids, and where you can get some interesting food for kids. Jiko can be another good one for kids, although earlier in the evening is probably preferable at any signature restaurant, just because the meals tend to take a while to prepare and eat.

LOVE Tangerine Cafe! It is probably my favorite counter service on property. Anyway, to answer your question about kids only wanting to eat chicken nuggets and hamburgers all the time, my child doesn't. She was 2 and a half when we went in December when free dining was offered, so she wasn't on the dining plan. It worked out well because she and I just ended up sharing a plate at wherever we ate. When she turns 3, I can't see us purchasing the dining plan. For one, my family is not that big on desserts. We eat them, but not at every meal. Because of that, we did the math and it makes much more sense for us to pay out of pocket. That also works out well because my daughter would much prefer the options on the adult menu to eating burgers, nuggets, and mac and cheese for a week. However, as the Be Our Guest Children's Menu thread showed us, most kids do want to eat that sort of thing and will only eat those sorts of foods.

Most of our meals are buffets, so he can eat something besides mac and cheese. Besides being a vegetarian, he can't eat artificial food coloring, so finding something on the kids menu is difficult. Some restaurants have food coloring in the mac and cheese, others don't. I wish they offered child sized portions of some of the adult options on the kids menu as well as nuggets and burgers. He doesn't have a large appetite, but he does love ethnic foods more than typical "American" fare.

No, no they don't! This is exactly why we haven't opted for DDP, my kids would possibly eat one burger during our trip or maybe a slice of pizza, so they will be sharing adult meals for the rest of the time. They love flavours and spices so nuggets and hot dogs are definitely not something they would choose.

We only did the dining plan with my nephews once and that's why we stopped. They wanted more options, and when you are paying OOP, they have a lot more room to give you what you want. It really wasn't a savings for us, when they'd eat half of a kids meal and then share adult stuff with us. This last trip (they were 10 and 12) they ate exclusively off the adult menu and they'd mix and match. App only, or split a salad and each get their own entree, share entrees with us, etc. And since we were paying oop, we didn't pay for extra stuff they didn't want.

For our particular family and kidlets, this just seems to work out better.

That's good to know. I was thinking that if my adult sister didn't want to order off the adult menu, she'd have the kids menu as back up. If all else fails, I have no problem getting her something before we eat or after, or ordering something for my 2 1/2 year old DS off the kids menu and letting her eat it when he doesn't "want" it, since he'll probably like the Morroccan food off Mommy & Daddy's plate just fine.

Both of my girls are pretty boring eaters but my younger one mooches off of my couscous whenever I make some for myself. I know she'd try to steal mine if we ate here. What to do, what to do... :confused3
