Ikea FE
 

If anyone has finished their FE made from the IKEA organizer could you post pictures or share your experiences please ? I have about a week and a half to go and so far it's sitting there staring at me blank. I'm not very crafty which is why I bought that IKEA organizer in the first place...but I'd like to personalize ours. I am thinking of glue gunning Mickey heads made out of foam...but I'm not sure how well they will stick, or if felt might be better.

What about iron on designs? You can ask one of the wonderful DISgners here on boards to create you something then you print on iron on and you are all set.

That was my original plan... But it says do not iron. It is polyester, I'm worried it would melt! Eek!

How about peel and stick felt? Or those brads (sp?) that poke through and split open. Like in a pocket school folder. Maybe you can find colored ones at the office supply store. You can make it look polka dottie :)

There is an example posted yesterday on the facebook fish extender page. I can't copy and paste from my phone but HTH.

I got patches from a fabric store (Belle for DD4, Mater for DS6, and Micky and Minnie for DH and I) and used fabric glue to attach them to the pockets. The kids wrote their names with fabric markers on their pockets and then wrote Mommy and Daddy on our pocket. It definitely has a home made feel to it! I'll try to post a pic when I get home from work tonight.

I cut out small Mickey and Minnie shaped heads (about 4" in diameter) and sewed one to each pocket. I attached red polka dot ribbon to the ears for Minnie. (You could probably glue them if you don't sew.) I also bought Disney themed ribbon (Wal-Mart) and attached it to the top of the FE so that it hung from the cabin fish.

I thought it turned out really cute! Unfortunately, I don't have a photo readily available but will try to get one later.

Can you order these organizers online?

I think someone posted in another thread about the Ikea FE that they were not available online. You could only buy them in the store. They are a great item for $4.99!

I looked at the fabric and I'm pretty sure you can low-heat iron it. It might get "squishy" but I doubt it will melt unless you're blasting it with the iron.

I bought 2 and I'm ironing on Mickey heads from Eva and Milliepie. I'll post next week on how it turns out. That's when I expect to get to this project :goodvibes

This is out of focus, but gives you an idea. It was my first FE and I am really happy with how it turned out. I used fabric glue to make the heads, sewed the ribbon on and hot-glued the heads on the organizer.

I must have missed this in the other thread. Where at Ikea did you find these???

I wish they would let u order it only. We do not have a ikea here

It was in the kids section in our ikea. You can see it online, search for pockets... You just can't order it for some reason.
