5 days away from our first cruise...a few miscellaneous questions!

Hello! I've got a couple questions before our cruise next Sunday :yay:

1) What do you need to take when you leave the boat? We're going to the Castaway Cay stingray and the Atlantis excursions.

2) I understand there are lockers at Atlantis but not CC. What do you normally do with your things while you're in the water (we won't have a person to watch our things since it's just two of us going)?

3) On our specific itinerary on the DCL website, it says that our Atlantis Aquaventure excursion is from 9:15 to 3:15. However, on the general cruise itinerary it says that we are in Nassau from 9:30 to 5:45. Why is our excursion cut 2 and a half hours short?

4) I'm confused about luggage! Is it similar to when you stay at DW...meaning, do we check it at the airport and it shows up in our stateroom? We're using DCL Air, but as an added complication, I never received our cruise docs. I assume it's explained there :confused3

5) We're going to DW following cruise. How does luggage work with that? Can they send it straight to our Disney resort or do we have to handle it ourselves?

6) I'm on the 4-night Dream cruise, so I think they'll be showing the Golden Mickeys, Believe, Villians Tonight, and a Magic show. We're two adults, are any not worth seeing (I'd probably use this time to ride the Aquaduck)?

7) Any other tips for a first-timer are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

1.) Whatever you might need for the activity being conducted. They'll supply towels for water-based excursions at the pre-departure meet up. Usually, that means ID, cash/cards, maybe a backpack, etc.
2.) Just leave it on the chair/towel. No real way to secure anything to my knowledge
3.) The excursion isn't being "cut short" per se, just that is the duration of the planned activity. You'll have the remaining time of the port visit to explore on your own, do some shopping, grab some food, or just get back onboard. Up to you.
4.) Clueless, as we didn't fly
5.) You'll need to retrieve your own luggage to clear customs. Not sure of the procedure to get it to DW.
6.) I haven't seen the Golden Mickeys, but Believe and Villains Tonight were both pretty good. The magic show will vary from cruise to cruise, so that's kind of up to you.
7.) I'd check out the FAQ thread here and see what you can glean from it. You are allowed to bring on your own alcohol if you so choose, as long as its in your carry-on. Bringing a large tumbler or mug with lid to get soda from the drink station will be a good thing. Eat to your heart's content; its all included so don't hesitate to get multiple entrees, appetizers, etc. Most of all, just enjoy your time on vacation. :)

It is only my son & I when we cruise. I took a beach bag with us to both CC and Atlantis, I didn't take anything of value and left our bag on our chair when we went off to enjoy the slides or beach, I kept my camera on my person in a water proof bag when I could but for the most part I just didn't worry about it nor have I ever....

As for the length of time at Atlantis for your cruise I don't know...

Not sure how luggage is handled for you if your are going to a Disney resort after.

As for shows I personally say see them all if this is your first trip! We loved them! We didn't do the magic show though, that was the only concession I made!

We LOVED Aquaduck!!

Have fun!

1) What do you need to take when you leave the boat? We're going to the Castaway Cay stingray and the Atlantis excursions.
We have done the stingray excursion so I can answer that. Basically nothing more than what I needed to enjoy CC itself. The stingray excursion provides a snorkel mask and vest. If you are bringing your own snorkel gear, just remember to take that with you. DCL provides towels when you are getting off the ship, so no need to grab one before you leave!

2) I understand there are lockers at Atlantis but not CC. What do you normally do with your things while you're in the water (we won't have a person to watch our things since it's just two of us going)?
We have never had a problem leaving our belongings at our chairs while enjoying CC. I do keep a tote bag or backpack with me to gather loose items. And I do always tend to keep an eye on my stuff while I'm in the water; you may want to find chairs that are within eyeshot of the water.

9:15 is probably your meeting time at the designated location (such as one of the theatres or nightclubs). Your excursion is not "being cut short" just because it ends before the ship departs Nassau. (Snorkeling excursions tend to last about 2 or 2 1/2 hours only.) This just happens to be the length of your excursion. It will give you a few minutes to shop in the immediate port area if you choose to do so.

4) I'm confused about luggage! Is it similar to when you stay at DW...meaning, do we check it at the airport and it shows up in our stateroom? We're using DCL Air, but as an added complication, I never received our cruise docs. I assume it's explained there
If you are using DCL transfers with a partner airline, your luggage will be handled by DCL between the airport and your stateroom. If you are traveling to the port on your own, you will be responsible for your luggage. You can print your cruise documents online at disneycruise.com; information regarding transfers you have purchased will be included. Oh, I just noticed you are using air via DCL, so I am guessing transfers are included with that!

5) We're going to DW following cruise. How does luggage work with that? Can they send it straight to our Disney resort or do we have to handle it ourselves?
Again, if you have booked transfers to your resort through DCL, they will handle your luggage. If you are arranging your own transportation, then you will handle your luggage to your resort yourself.

6) I'm on the 4-night Dream cruise, so I think they'll be showing the Golden Mickeys, Believe, Villians Tonight, and a Magic show. We're two adults, are any not worth seeing (I'd probably use this time to ride the Aquaduck)?
"Believe" is the only one that is a must attend for me. I can take or leave "Golden Mickey's" now that Roy Disney is no longer a part of it. "Villains" was not worth it to me. Of course, that is all subjective!

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

We take a waterproof case for our cash, credit card, ID, room card, and leave the rest( no valuables)sitting on the beach.

Definitely go see the three DCL shows...no doubt. The magic show is your call. Can be entertaining, of course, but if you're going to miss something in favor of Aquaduck, spa appointments, etc., I'd skip the magic show. There are times when the magician/comedian/whatever might also be doing one or more shows somewhere else on the ship at a different time, so check out the Navigator if you're interested but the "prime time" slot isn't best for you.

As for the Atlantis Aquaventure excursion, I would recommend that you do a little research as to the layout of the resort before you get on the ship. It is a rather large resort (putting it mildly), so getting your bearings early will save you lots of time and confusion. We did this last year and, for the money, felt like a LOT of time was wasted by the hosts. In effect, they walk you through the entire resort in a thinly-veiled attempt to get you interested in coming back again sometime. We probably spent 45 minutes wandering in a group through the casino, resort, etc., before they finally got us to the water park area. A few folks broke out of the group and took a short cut earlier, and now we know why! If you know how to get to the water park area, then there's no need to follow the entire tour. Another tip -- take some bottled water and snacks with you. We paid $10 for a bottle of water at Atlantis...and everything else is comparably priced. There is a lunch voucher with the excursion, so you're covered there, but anything else is a pretty penny (not suprisingly, but worth remembering!).

As for the time involved, the excursions are all over the board in terms of length. We were on the Fantasy last month and probably spent the most money on the shortest possible excursion (about an hour with dolphins). My guess is that they want to at least give you an opportunity to spend some time wandering on your own, enjoying on-ship activities, etc. But I fully understand your concern given what you'll be paying for Atlantis! This goes back to studying the resort before you get there...with limited time, you want to know where you're going from the first step you take.

Thank y'all so much for the great responses! Based on your advice, I think I'll be taking the bare minimum off the boat, study the Atlantis map beforehand, keep my luggage with me, and skip the magic show to go ride the Aquaduck!

Eeeek :yay: 3 more days!
