what's on your menu for Christmas? (or the holiday's)

BearcatsFan 11-23-2012 04:51 PM

ham (spiral or smoked - I bought both)
hashbrown casserole
pasta salad
broccoli salad
green beans with bacon
fresh baked bread
deviled eggs
homemade eggnog

For Christmas we do a very light breakfast, hot & cold appetizers around noon and then dinner around 3pm. There will be shrimp as one of the appetizers and standing rib roast, mashed potatoes and several vegetables for dinner.

Whatever my daughter decides as she is doing Christmas at her place. I can't wait for her vegan goodies. We will probably bring the mac and cheese and broccoli casserole because the family has that every year and anything else she asks us to bring.

For our nuclear family Christmas we have pizza fondue & some sort of dessert fondue. Last year I bought some spiced wine & it was very nice warmed up so I think I'll do that again.

A beef tenderloin and yorkshire pudding... yum!

Gumbo4x4 11-23-2012 06:12 PM

We will probably grill or smoke something.

lizabu 11-23-2012 06:29 PM

I usually do turkey but I'm feeling turkeyed out. I want to do a prime rib with yorkshire pudding.

Fried Turkey, corn casserole, sweet potato casserole, green beans and strussel cake:thumbsup2

We are going to have all kinds of snack type foods (hot and cold) and a platter to make sandwiches. The kids like this so much more than a traditional holiday meal. We have been getting all kinds of ideas from Pintrest. :lmao:

I did Thanksgiving so I am DONE! I will make lots of desserts for both Christmas Eve and Christmas day but they will not be at my house! :rotfl:

When it is at my house I do Christmas Day and always have some sort of Rib Roast or Filet Mignon, popovers, roasted potatoes, asparagus with hollandaise sauce and other sides.

tigercat 11-23-2012 07:18 PM

Since our Thanksgiving is in Oct we are okay with turkey again. We usually have
turkey and gravy
stuffing (3 different kinds)
mashed potatos
mashed turnips
2 or 3 pies (homemade)
Christmas pudding (homemade)
Christmas cake (homemade)
Christmas cookies (homemade)
but for the first time I think our family will be divided. My one daughters husband has decided that he only wants to have Christmas dinners (probably 2) and none with us. They have 3 of our grandkids.
The other daughter started really awful rumours about me in the spring and has been horrible to me so don't think they will be coming. They usually come for thanksgiving and this year they did their own with friends.
None of the things she has said are even remotely true which really makes it hard, so it looks like it may be my 2 son's and my husband for dinner. My one granddaughter is living with us as her mum kicked her out (after the rumours were started) but she may go back for Christmas dinner.
If we are here by ourselves we may just have a normal days meal.

Christmas at our house is easy peasy ... we do soup, gumbo or chili. If family coming over we all pick a soup to make. I usually will make corn and crab bisque or seafood gumbo . The rest of the family shows up with what ever soup they like, we have had taco soup , chicken noodle , chili , chicken and sausage gumbo , fish stew . Sometimes we have 4 or 5 different kinds. Bread and snacks round out the menu.

Wow, I didn't realize people did so many different things. We basically make the same foods for xmas as we do for Thanksgiving. I think once or twice we've done standing rib roast but usually it is the full on turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, green beans, gravy. We usually have cheesecake though rather than pumpkin or pecan pie.

Christmas Eve is with family at my parents - mostly appetizers:

shrimp cocktail
crab cakes
rolled/stuffed eggplant
sausage frittata/potato frittata
bread soup (italian poor man's soup ;))
caprese salad
some type of pasta
sauteed spinach/garlic dish (no idea why, but we have it every year)
assorted Christmas cookies

Christmas day is me and my boyfriend:

breakfast - caramel pecan rolls (bought at local bakery)

I'm thinking of making a potato pizza for light dinner - flatbread, olive oil, rosemary, thinly sliced potatoes and other ingredients - have to find exact recipe. Possibly this one - But I will use flatbread that I buy!! - the point is for this to be easy. ;)
And then just some kind of fancy schmancy salad with it.

Wine, no dessert, I don't really eat it at home.

New Year's Eve - no idea what we're doing yet.

New Year's Day - go out to eat for huge family dinner. Tradition for 30 something years.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 01:52 PM.
