People want to join us last minute...

Or should I say person?
DD, DH and I are leaving from AoA on December 1. We booked this a year ago - ADRs 6 months ago etc... Staying in LM room.

*Today* my MIL decided she wants to join us for a few days. I talked to my TA a day or two ago and everything is in the mail for us. Don't get me wrong, she's welcome to join us but I have a feeling it's not that easy.

What is the likelyhood of her being added to our reservations? The hotel may not be a problem... but I can't see the ADRs being adjusted that easily? Just looking for advice before I start flipping out.

Well, if it's definate that she is going to join you, I would call guest services to add her to your ADR's for the days she will be there. My sister joined us about 1 week prior, and believe it or not we were able to get her added to all our ADR's, including le Cellier! If for any reaon they can't add her, you will know in advance and can decide to either eat w/o h er :confused3 or change your ADR. I think this is pretty common for Disney. Enjoy your time with her, my MIL died many years ago and how I wish I would have had the opportunity to have her accompany us, not for me but for the sake of my kids. Have a wonderful trip!

From your post, it looks like your ADRs are for three people. If so, adding one extra person at the podiums should not be any problem. Three people are normally sat at 4 tops in sit down restaurants. So adding a fourth is no problem. If you were four and she would make five, it could be a real problem. But with only you, your husband, and daughter, it should be fine.

Thanks. I hope I didn't misrepresent myself there, she's welcome to come and my daughter would love it - we just made the plans so long ago and asked multiple times about joining us. I was thinking the same thing about going from 3-4 people, chances are we'd already be a four seat table. I'm hoping that in fact if she does in fact want to come, that it will be easy to add her to the ADRs. She just called my husband a little while ago (I'm at work) - and I dont know if she was having a moment and will change her mind again tomorrow.

I am a local and a cast member. I am also a grandmama. We eat at Disney sit down restaurants a lot. There are numerous times that we have had to change the number of people at the podium (both up and down). The CMs working at restaurants will do everything in their power to help you. A lot depends on how busy the season. But if you only want to change by one or two people, they can usually accomodate you.

Just one other question about your MIL joining you? Are you on a vacation package with dining plan? I notice that you said she would be joining you for PART of your vacation. If you are on a package, she would be required to have the exact same package as you.$$$$ wasted if she's not staying for the whole period.

Or will you just add her to your reservation after you arrive and have her pay OOP for her meals and tickets?

I would tell her, "That's AWESOME. Here are the numbers and websites to get your information and to make your arrangements. See you there!" :thumbsup2

Do NOT change your plans. If you can comfortably add her to your ADRs - that is fine. But do NOT switch your plans for her. You will resent it.

If she has to eat elsewhere, explain to her that she did not accept your offer originally - so she will have to live with the consequences.

If everything works out - that is great! But - keep YOUR plans. Can she comfortably "fit" in the room as you had planned sleeping situations? If not, then she will have to get her own room.

Learn the "Power of No". If you don't - she will walk all over you for the rest of her lifetime. Plans are plans. Last minute changes are very difficult.

Trust me. I have lived this! (I am 66, and I was the daughter-in-law who accommodated everyone about 30 years ago.) :goodvibes

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! My husband spoke to her today, and she's still undecided about what she's doing. She doesn't want to travel the whole week, or to fly alone, so she's looking to find another travel mate. With no disrespect I think she had a little "liquid encouragement" last night. :)
However- I personally will not be changing anything. My TA and I have been planning our ideal trip for months... If it comes down to it we will add her where possible. She alone could easily fit in our room. Ideally, I'm hoping she and her sister will fly down with their own plans and join us for daily fun- I think she'd be happier that way too. Not to mention we got all our final documents in the mail today! :)

Oh my.

I don't believe you.

You and your husband would say that to his mother? Really?

I'm with you, Bob NC. Unless there's some sort of history of DMIL ruining vacations or family times together, I can't see why the OP wouldn't do her best to accommodate her DD's Grandmother!:confused3

Heck, if I were the OP, I'd be over-the-moon thinking that there would be a chance that my DH and I might have some "alone" time:woohoo:
