One At Bat - the Adam Greenberg story
I just read about this on CNN:

Apparently, Adam Greenberg was a Chicago Cubs pinch hitter in July 2005. He had just been called up by manager Dusty Baker from AAA Iowa. He was beaned in his one and only Major League at bat by a Marlins pitcher and was so injured that he was not able to return to MLB.

From his website:

Of the almost 17,500 people to play in Major League baseball, Adam Greenberg is the only player to have his career end on the very first pitch. In fact, according to Major League rules, Adam’s debut only counts as a plate appearance, not an official at bat.
Filmmaker Matt Liston attempted to get the Cubs to resign him and give him is one at bat 7 years later. The Cubs, busy trying to stay out of last place, declined. The Marlins, however, accepted the challenge and Adam will be playing on Oct 2, 2012 in the same park where his career ended. KUDOS to the Marlins (and, I hate to say, Manager Ozzie Guillen) for signing Adam and giving him his chance. As a Cubs fan and long time season ticket holder, I have to say that I wish it were the Cubs who recognized a man's dream instead of the bottom line. In a season full of disappointments, this one really breaks my heart.

Good luck Adam and have fun! I have to see if the Marlins game will be broadcast so I can watch it.
