City, Sand, and Savanna - Lead-up to the Luau (pg 203)
Hi and welcome to another Glennbo-family trip report!
For the consideration of others waiting to enter, please move all the way to the end of your row so that there will be room for everyone. Thank you! ;)
Those of you who have followed my pre-trip report (link) know that this was a multi-faceted, multi-segmented, multi-generational trip. We had a New York City portion (trading-out DVC points), where my wife and daughter celebrated our daughters high school graduation; a Vero Beach portion, which was our first stay at a DVC resort other than our home resort of Animal Kingdom Villas; and then lastly, my parents joined us at Kidani Village at Animal Kingdom Lodge. (And for those of you who didnt follow the pre-trip report, don't be satisfied with that short summary go back and read the whole thing. Not to mention, but I'm about to, the other past-Glennbo trip reports in my signature.)
So who is this crew anyway? Heres a picture of us at Flying Fish, at the Boardwalk:
I'm Glenn, and in the picture above, I'm in the second row, far left. My lovely wife Judy is at the far right of that row, and between us (literally) we have 3 kids: Marlene (left-most kid in the picture, but middle-kid in birth order), Lauren (middle kid in the picture, but oldest in age), and James (right-most in the picture, and our youngest). My parents, seated in the front, answer to the endearing terms of Gram and Poppy. As I mentioned in the pre-trip report, they're partly to blame for our love of Disney in general, and Animal Kingdom Lodge in particular, because it was on a trip they took us on in 2001 when we first stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge (now known as Jambo House) and fell in love with the resort. That Christmas 2001 trip was to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, so this trip 10+ years later, was to celebrate their 60th. It was also an important trip in that our oldest child is heading off to college in the fall, so this may be the last time we can all vacation together like this for a long time.
If you're new to one my trip reports, you may notice some strange goings-on in the comments; people shouting out Judy-sightings. It all started innocently enough in my first trip report at the suggestion of a DISer called Marvali. In one of the first posts, my wife Judy could be seen in a crowd picture and it turned into a game of find Judy. So now people count how many Judy-sightings there are in each chapter/update. The first one with the correct number of sightings in that chapter gets all of the (worthless, yet highly-coveted) points for that round. Other Trip Report Titles Considered
Like some people have Disney vacation traditions, I guess I have a tradition of listing in my Intro-post what other titles were considered for the trip report. The batch this round consisted of:
Senior trip (a reference to our chronologically-advantaged travelers and our graduate-daughter.)
Senior classy trip (another spin on the above.)
I'm almost out of my Rx, so it must be time to go home (and that was me, not the seniors.)
Disney at 2 speeds: slow and slower (sorry Mom and Dad, but a reference to our park touring speed.)
Yep, that's right, 60 years (a quote of my Moms after she got used to people doing a double-take after reading her Anniversary button.)
In the end, I decided to just keep it similar to the pre-trip report but its always fun to think of other options.
Well it's time to wrap up this Intro post, but if youre reading along, please post and let me know. :wave2: This trip report thing is a lot more fun with readers! And by all means, join in the fun comment on the chapters and give us your Judy-sightings!
You can work your way through the report by following the links at the end of each chapter. They look like this --> Link to next chapter Or, you can join in the banter in-between the chapters, it's all good!
I'll post chapter links right here, as they become available:
