I am so lost....

I need major help.

We are from the Boston area. I have never been to southern California. DH has, but it was >20 years ago.

We are planning our first trip to Disneyland in early August 2012. We will be staying at the Grand Californian Villas for 5 nights.

We are also going to spend 4-5 nights elsewhere in southern California, in the LA/Beverly Hills area. We want to do all the touristy stuff: Universal Studios, Rodeo Drive, the Mann Theatre, etc. I'd love to spend a day at the beach. I don't even know where to start. We need a familly friendly, clean, centrally located hotel. It will be myself, DH, DD (then 9) and DS (then 7). Our budget is flexible, but I'd like to keep it under $300/night.

Any/all help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :lovestruc

I'm not up on current (or Aug 2012) rates so you'll have to double check those - but there are many hotels centrally located to Universal Studios, Rodeo Drive, the Mann Theatre, etc.

Check out the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn, the Best Western Hollywood Hills Hotel, the Hollywood Heights Hotel and W Hotel Hollywood.

For old Hollywood glamour you can't beat the Hollywood Roosevelt

A couple of years ago, my family of four had a very similar touring plan to yours. We stayed at the Beverly Hilton - around $250 a night. The hotel itself is very nice, and it was convenient to everything we wanted to do. We were about 15 - 20 minutes from all our destinations. The pool was so nice, we decided to make one day just a pool day.

Thank you for your replies! I was looking at the W Hotel Hollywood on Tripadvisor. Also the Four Seasons... until I saw their prices.

I love to plan, but when I'm not familiar with the area we are traveling to, it isn't quite as fun. Any other tips would be much appreciated!
