What is up with West Jet prices to Orlando?

We have three weeks booked in 2017- May, August, and early December. I am tracking WJ flights using the Google flight tracker, and our normal flights are either not showing up as available (which is odd, since there is no way they are already completely sold out- no holiday weekends, etc.) or over $800 per person (usually, we pay about $475-$500). Does anyone know what might be causing this, if it is a normal blip, or has had the same experience with the same or other destinations? The price differential seems insanely high, so thanks for any input!

Not sure where you're flying from ... but have you tried any of the American Airline websites ... I've never flown AC or WJ to MCO as they are just too expensive ...

We booked through United last year and found significant savings over booking the exact same flight through AC. I don't know about WJ as they don't fly into our local airport.

I love using Google's Flight Tracker, but I must admit that I'm paranoid at times - so I'll periodically check the airline websites and Expedia just to see if the prices are in line with what I see on google.

I've seen that with WestJet when we look for flights out of YYZ to MCO. But they do have seat sales frequently and that's the only time we fly with them. We booked our upcoming trip for just slightly over $300 PP return incl. taxes which to me is amazing.

Yesterday, I scored 2 direct return flights from Ottawa to Orlando for April travel for less than $500 CAD total taxes in (less $250 return each). My oldest son is turning 13 in May so I thought we could do a Mom and Son trip as a birthday gift. I mentioned it this morning and he doesn't want to go if his brothers are going to miss out on the fun. :confused3

I have until midnight tonight to try to convince him before I have to cancel without penalty. No way I want to give up that deal.

That's amazing- and what a lovely gift (for the both of you ;) )! May I ask which airline?

We wanted to use our companion ticket, so WestJet was the one we were looking at. Even Air Canada is over $600 all of a sudden...do you all think I'm too late to score any good prices with any airline if we leave May 12?

ETA- checked United but they don't seem to fly anything nonstop from Toronto.

I would keep looking, but you're in that hypothetical 3-month zone where prices can be pretty high. There are usually weekly offers so be on the lookout for those.

Hmmm.... I'm just glad there is a direct flight from YYC Calgary to Orlando on Westjet. They are the only ones who operate it (so far) and I'm happy to pay whatever it takes to get me to the MK in 4.5 hours! But we only fly using our Avion points, so... I don't keep track of actual prices.

It was Westjet. An unbelievable deal - $242 each. A friend found it on yowdeals.

Late last night, with 6 mins left before the free cancellation expired, I called and cancelled. :(

My son really didn't want to go without his brothers. I'm still trying to get over it.

I got a great deal with westjet from St Johns a couple of weeks ago - under $400 return. That's pretty much unheard of for us. Granted, it's for June and not when I was hoping to go, but I couldn't pass up those prices. If you don't already, sign up for seat sale alerts - they're great to have.

There does seem to be an issue with the WestJet search. If you use the Home Page flight search it will show certain dates as unavailable and they will not appear on the date tab on the Select Flights page. However if you specify that date on the 'Modify Search' on the Select Flight page it will list available flights. I suspect whatever google is accessing has the same issue so you will probably need to go to the WJ website and either use the 'Modify Search' or the 'Book a flight' Under 'Book'. (The date selection on the Home Page Flight search is also incredibly slow)
or over $800 per person (usually, we pay about $475-$500).
From Edmonton, unless there is a discount code, the WJ prices are often almost double the US carriers'. The periodic discount codes can bring it down considerably. Hopefully there will be discounts for your dates.

I've had to book one-ways recently. WestJet cheaper going down, Air Canada coming back etc.

I usually pay 350 to 400 from Toronto. One thing I am noticing is that both AC and WJ have jacked up their prices to make their 'sale' prices look better. When their sale prices were regular fares a mere two years ago.

I don't think we've ever paid less than $600 on either WJ or AC from Pearson (usually early December when theoretically prices should be less expensive as it is after US Thanksgiving and well before Christmas). We've even paid about $1,100 when buying within a couple of months. I find that WJ is usually cheaper when you factor in bags for AC. The only reason we flew AC/Rouge last December was because DH had a voucher for 15% off due to a screw up with AC a few months earlie and it had to be used before the end of the year. I hate their "service" and much prefer WJ but at 15% off it was less expensive than WJ (but would have been more without it).

We've done well this year so far using Google flights searching YYZ-MCO. Have paid 300$ RT for flights in Feb and June...Feb flights were with American with 1 stop and June flights were WestJet nonstop...I will say this is the first time I've ever seen WestJet flights that reasonable for my travel dates. Hopefully you find good fares for your trips too :)

What a nice trip you had planned. High five on the "steal of a deal" and sorry you had to cancel. However, congrats on having such a sweet son who didn't want to leave out his brothers! :-)
