I would like to try Homecoming some time but it's just not going to fit in my schedule for this trip. I originally decided to schedule it for our arrival/DS night then switched to Boathouse but then decided against a TS all together. Oh well. Something for another trip!

I really enjoyed Tusker House breakfast in June but decided to try Sanaa instead on our AK day. Funny thing...I got a bagel, too, and I remember this same problem with the toaster and cream cheese. Someone was waiting behind me, too! It was a guy and I don't think he sighed but still, you could tell he was impatient.

Aw! You'll have to go the next time. Tusker House is so good! I did notice the toasters were a little slow but people can be so impatient.

Homecoming

That night we headed to Chef Art Smith's Homecoming for dinner. It was a pleasant night (maybe a little chilly), but we asked to be seated on the porch. We decided to start out with the Church Lady Deviled Eggs. These were different from most deviled eggs I've ever had since they were more sweet than savory, (I think the bacon was candied) but they were enjoyable. Josh liked them a lot too. It also came with a small side of fried okra that Josh couldn't eat, but I could. I really liked it, and the saltiness offset the sweetness in the eggs nicely.

For dinner Josh got the Hamilton which is:

Lunch counter style with two burger patties on thick-sliced bread, topped with white cheddar, grilled onions, chow-chow relish, bread and butter pickles and tomato. He substituted in a side of mashed potatoes because their fries couldn't be made gluten free.

Josh enjoyed his burger, but was still a little full from lunch so he didn't eat too much of it.

For dinner I had Chef Art Smith's Fried Chicken:

Chef Art Smith's signature dish! Buttermilk-brined for 24 hours then perfectly fried and served with creamy mashed potatoes, cheddar drop biscuit and love

This was soooo good! :lovestruc But so filling that I only had 1.5 pieces of chicken out of 3, and some of the potatoes and biscuit. The buttermilk brine made it moist and delicious. I'm usually not a huge fan of fried chicken because I find it dry, but this was perfect.

I realized too late I barely even got the biscuit in the plate in my picture, but I had already eaten half of it by then :rotfl:

This is one of my food regrets from my last trip. I LOVE Fried chicken and you totally made me drool on myself! This looks soooo good.

Ah, you have me drooling! I am dying to go to Homecoming. That chicken and mashed potatoes looks sooooo good.

Boma and Tusker House are two of my favorite breakfasts. Can never go wrong with bread pudding for breakfast!

We're definitely going to Homecoming either in March or May, even though Steve isn't sold on it I'm tired of seeing all the positive reviews lol!
We haven't been to TH breakfast in YEARS but loved it when we did it. I can't remember if they had the banana bread pudding there back then or not but if they did I missed it and I'll bet I'd love it since I love the french toast bread pudding at Trails End and BOMA. Have to try talking the kids into that one again sometime but they're a pain in the a** now when it comes to character meals :sad2:
We don't usually like our resort QS either (and didn't try the Mara when we stayed at AKL) but we did enjoy Roaring Forks at WL, although we only ate lunch there really. And I loved our bounty platters from the BC Marketplace! However I do remember not being impressed by the food courts at the mods we stayed at.

Finally caught up. I've been having problems with the dis crashing on my ipad so I've been writing DR updates on my lunch... anyway I'm on my laptop so all good :flower3:

OH you are speaking my language, lady! The fried chicken is a dish to share, I do believe. I love Homecoming. It might be one of my new favorites. Okay, yes. Yes it is.

the banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce was my favorite!
DO NOT READ ABOUT BREAD PUDDING WHILE HUNGRY! Now I want dessert...

Wild Africa Trek

Now I didn't take notes on what was in the case during the Wild Africa Trek so this is going to be from memory. We weren't really hungry when we got to the boma, (and I'm a picky eater) so we didn't eat a lot but I did try a lot of it for reviewing purposes.

I also didn't get a picture of Josh's food, but I think it was relatively close to mine.

The top tray had: an editable flower, fruit salad, chicken curry salad, and dried beef. I did try the editable flower which tasted like you would think it would (like raw lettuce), I offered my beef to Josh, I ate some of the fruit salad which was a typical fruit salad. I also tried the chicken curry salad which was pretty sweet and actually better than I thought it would be.

The bottom tray had red pepper hummus and bread, a chickpea salad, and a turkey roll (I believe this was the seafood substitution). Along with Jungle Juice. I like red pepper hummus, but the bread wasn't great, I believe this was the same type of chickpea salad as Dine with an Animal Specialist, and I skipped the turkey roll too. I obviously consumed all the Jungle Juice I could :rotfl:

Honestly this sounds very disappointing. "Sad picnic" is the only thing that comes to mind and it should be a premium meal! At least I love that chickpea salad...
And I got the: Shrunken Zombie Head
Gosling’s 151 Black Seal Rum, Appleton Estate Reserve Rum, Bacardi 8 yr Rum, Tropical Juices, Falernum, and Cinnamon. Served in a souvenir Shrunken Head
My favorite :cloud9:

Come on over to the dark side. We have delicious southern food...

I've started reading this report so many times now! I'll start, then get distracted and then forget where I left off so I just start over again - I think I've read your D-Luxe Burger review like 5 times haha :rotfl:Who knows, I might have even commented already (I'm typing this as I read each review so I don't forget what I wanted to say)

I'm guessing Josh's burger came on a gluten free bun? How was it? I was GF for 4+ years, and I found bread the hardest thing to get used to. (I've been back eating gluten now for almost 4 years, and I know the GF options have improved greatly).

I'm with you on Amorette's - so amazing! I can't wait to go back to try more of their delicious cakes.

That's too bad about Trail's End! I've heard great things, but I think I've mainly heard about the brunch?

I loved the bread service at Saana! We actually eat Indian-inspired food quite often, and I have had better naan here in Edmonton (one restaurant we love makes coconut naan - oh man, so good!), but I really enjoyed trying all the different kinds of accompaniments. None of those salads sound appealing to me - I hate fennel, and I prefer eating chickpeas hot.

Sounds like a great meal at Shula's! We have a hard time adding steakhouses to our vacation plans, since we live in Alberta - home to some of the best beef in Canada.

Those desserts from the Boardwalk look amazing! I might have to add that to our plans for next trip...

Loved Boma breakfast! That's too funny about the plantains!

I had the queso fundito from La Hacienda (which I'm sure is the exact same) and I loved it! I think I need to try the avocado margarita next time after hearing everyone rave about it...

Those biscuits from Homecoming :worship:. That was one of our favourite meals - the food was so good!

Tusker House is Luke's absolute favourite Disney restaurant. He's asked if we can go there on every trip for the rest of our lives haha.

Your review of the food from Wild Africa Trek makes me feel a lot better about cancelling that. Looks disappointing...

We loved Trader Sam's!

Ok, I'm all caught up now :)

Great Dining Report! I totally want to go to Homecoming and D-Luxe Burger... unfortunately they didn't make the list for our Sept trip this year. The Sanaa review looked fantastic, and I'm so glad that they will bring out GF bread for the dipping sauces... VERY IMPORTANT to me!

You guys looked fabulous at Shulas! xo

We definitely are going to try to make it to Trader Sams this year!

Those 2 are so good we might go again in September. I need to start making my September list.

You'll love Sanaa!

Thank you!

Trader Sam's is so fun!

We did love the mini condiments though! The little hot sauce was so cute we took one home :rotfl:
OMG Chris would love this! He loves hot/spicy anything and everything and uses hot sauce whenever he can. There's a hot sauce at Aldi he loves so I have to make special trips there just to get it.
Sorry you otherwise didn't enjoy EMM breakfast, I've heard good things about it but Josh not feeling well after eating there would totally leave a bad impression. And runny eggs completely gross Steve out :crazy2:

It's such a cute little hot sauce!

Yeah the eggs were icky :crazy2:

We are going to have to try BOG dinner one of these days. We did lunch last year and are doing it again. I'm definitely getting the French Onion soup and the Strawberry Cupcake (again!). So good!

We got one of these too when we did in room dining for breakfast. So adorable! I wanted to keep it but I ended up using it and thought it would be silly if I took home half a bottle of teeny tiny Tabasco. Glad I'm not alone!

BOG looks delicious, salty fries and all. Poor Josh, I am sure that is devastating when you think you got a GF meal and end up sick all day from contamination. The pork chop does look excellent though! You and @ArielSRL are definitely making me think I am missing out, having never tried that strawberry cupcake. Might have to start looking for a BOG lunch soon. I think it's my favorite meal there after having tried all three!
