RV'ing from Disneyland to Disneyworld

That's a nice looking rig you've got there. Just a thought, check those tires. Look for the DOT date code on the sidewalls, should be a number something like this: 2415, which means the tire was made the 24th week of 2015. Conventional wisdom in the RV world is tires older than 7 years, no matter how good the tread looks should be replaced. Also, make sure to check the tire pressures, you'll be pretty loaded doing some extended travel and correct pressures are important.

I've been RVing over 23 years and have had four motorhomes (so far). I've learned from my mistakes and don't want to see tire problems interfere with your trip. :worried:

Best Regards!

I have 3 DOT 11's and 3 DOT 13's
Tread looks good with no cracking on side walls. Its very tough to check and add air to the tires. Had to add some extenders and on one side of the duel tires a shop put both stems next to each other.
I do check the tires each time I take out on a trip.
Have you ever had a blowout since the time you been rving?

As for your tickets, you can amend them after you're there. For example, you could buy a 2 or 3 day ticket, which would allow you to make your FPs at 60 days. Then, any time after you use the first day, and prior to using the last day, you can go to Customer Service and upgrade your ticket to 3,4 ... days. You will only pay the difference between what you paid for the original ticket and the cost of the upgraded ticket. You can actually trade down(from a 3 to a 2 day, etc) and they will refund the difference.
Recognize that the cost of another day gets increasingly cheaper as you go up in days, with days 5 and higher being only a few dollars each

We are looking at the 5 day base tickets. And we would save $70 (no tax) if we bought them through "Undercover Tourist" instead of Disney. Is that a wise idea with our situation? Looking to just bite the bullet and buy the tickets in the next couple of days to link them for our FastPass+

In the case of buying through an authorized discounter like Undercover Tourist, I believe you will lose your discount if you make a change at the park. Mickey "knows" how much you paid for your ticket, and they will use that price in calculating the "difference".

I bought the ticket through Disney today. 5 Day base tickets. I also set up fastpass+
They have my requests on file, as wanting loop 100. (in the drop down menu it says "accommodates fold out awning"??)
Should or do I need to do the "Skip front desk and do the online check-in"?

For us part of the adventure begins at the drive-thru check-in shacks. And they give you all the paper work that you'll need for your visit.

Like Denise said, doing the check in at the drive through booths is part of the fun. If you have never done it, then I'd pass on the on-line checkin, but if you've done it before... I'll try the online check in my next trip.

If you RV enough, you will have a blow out. I've had 3 or 4 on my campers. Many more on the race trailers (more miles and a LOT more weight). Several years ago, the Midwest had an extremely hot summer. Many days well over 100. That heat soaking into the highways really took its toll on tires. There wasn't a race from June-September that many of us didn't roll in with shredded "spares". One July race at MAM outside Omaha, we had a blow out on each trailer on the way up and 2 blow outs on the 2 car hauler on the way home. The 2 car trailer was a triple axle, but it was 3 of the 6 tires in one weekend and they were only one season old. Needless to say, the remaining 3 were replaced before the next race.

Cool, we will do this.
I was worried when I seen Eric of Nomadic Fanatic get stuck in the check-in line for hours just the other day on a non Holiday.

So we don't have a tow vehicle and might want to check-in early. Can we roll up to the check-in station say 9am and check-in? And if our site isn't ready, what do we do then? Drive out of the park and go to like a Walmart and wait?

You can check-in as early as 6am. They will give you your "packet" with the schedules for the week and some other things. (I don't remember what you get now. I haven't been to the Fort since Magic Bands rolled out)

If your site isn't ready, you can park in the overflow lot next to the registration building and jump on a bus to head to a park, Disney Springs or go down to the Settlement, marina and trading post. They will page you your site number when it is ready.

Okay looks like we will be spending the day at Disney Springs then and wait for that page. When you say page me does that mean a sms text message?

If you are willing, when you check-in, you can request a site that is already (or soon will be) available as opposed to waiting for your "Originally" assigned site. That way you can get set up quicker.

When we went last time checking in on Thanksgiving day, we got to the fort about 7AM. Went inside (as the booths were not yet manned) and got our information. Our site was immediately ready and we went and set up. Easy Peasy.

If however, you have requested a specific site/loop, you may have to wait for it. Either way, if there is space in the overflow, you can do as Teamubr suggested.

no advise other than what i have already but i am jealous as hell. You are combining 2 of my favorite things. RVing and Disney. Please be sure to let us know if you do vlog on YouTube. I follow many RVers on youtube and love it when they capture and share their disney vacation.. :yay:

Thanks for the extra info. We might just wait for loop 100 which is what we requested when I called the reservation guy and set up the deposit. I'm hoping that is what we want, is loop 100. close to everything within walking distance.

Yeah we will be doing a daily vlog, they will be uploaded if I have cell service. I will post here when we start them. We will start with the day before which is the 21st of Jan then every day after.
I did a blog when we visited Wilderness Lodge back in 2003. I sometimes come across the piece of paper that has one of the days wrote on it as I look through old things. It was neat to read some of the experiences that I wrote down. And for me not to do a video log and upload it would be a stupid thing. This is a crazy adventure I would say for us. Driving across country and going so far from home. This is out of my ideas of what I can do with my family...I mean flying to London isnt even half as crazy as this to me. lol.

The 100 loop is my favorite for all the reasons you said. Close to the Settlement, marina and the boats and the Trading Post. Unfortunately, I'm too big now. My old 5er was 31 ft long and worked out great. My new trailer is 42. With the truck, I'm over 60 ft. That just doesn't navigate the Preferred loops very well.

Looking forward to your trip reports and vLog as you cross the country. And this doesn't sound crazy at all... Unless you consider all the movies that have been made about it. :D

I don't believe this is correct.

When you buy third party Disney doesn't have a clue what you paid for your ticket. I bought 7 day park hoppers a few months ago from a third party for about $380 with tax. The list price through disney is around $460 I think. When I went to upgrade to APs, they credited me the ~$460 (disney price with tax) and I only had to pay the difference.

If you can -- try to plan your trip so you avoid rush hour times in Houston. Houston is extremely spread out and traffic can be heavy for 40+ miles.

Rush hour going from West to East would be worst from 7 am to 9 am (still heavy until about 9:30 in some spots). It then builds up pretty much everywhere from 11:30 until 1 with the lunch crowd moving around. It then gets bad starting around 3:15 or so until 7 to 7:30 pm.

Also -- sometimes traffic on I-10 from San Antonio to Houston on Sundays can be heavy. It moves pretty well (55+ mph), but there is a lot of cars which can make for some white knuckle driving.

Inside info that I wouldnt think would be on my mind but when I'm there, it will help biggly (big league).
We're not strangers of heavy white knuckle traffic so that will help me a little, but in a huge vehicle in a town that I'm not familiar with.. not so sure, but I will take that into consideration when driving through that area. Ill plan for those times if possible. Thanks for the inside knowledge

Thanks for the confirmation about the loop we want.
When I watch these RV videos of Full Timers they all are downsizing..???
