The walking dead amc #2

See I thought Noah's death was more gratuitous, but maybe that's because I have read the comics and sort of expected that sort of imaginary with this scene. And only b/c I thought they would stick with the "true to the book" line.

Can we all just agree it would have been 1000% times worse if Maggie or Carl ended up on the receiving end of Lucille? (although there is a leaked clip online of Maggie being the chosen one).

Maggie yes, Carl no.

I'm a long time Diser but just found this thread. I am a huge TWD fan but the above sentiment is exactly how I feel about the premiere. I was completely prepared that someone was going to get Lucilled, as I learned from reading about the comics, and was prepared for any of the cast to go, even my beloved Rick or Daryl. What I wasn't prepared for was the over the top, unnecessary, gratuitous violence. I know TWD has always been a violent show but this was way beyond any acceptable level. Zombies, a knowingly unreal entity, having grosser than gross deaths that you know are mostly CGI is one thing, but watching a human bludgeoning was beyond disturbing. I have been sick to my stomach about it and can't get those images out of my head. DH, who is not squeamish at all, even agreed with me that we may be done with the show, and he has LOVED TWD since episode 1. Just listening to the deaths at the end of last season was awful enough. After the first hits and we saw who the victims are, they should have not shown the full extent of the killings. I feel that the producers and writers took the cheap way out and basically insulted the viewers by thinking we have no imagination at all and had to have everything shown to us. Torture porn is all that was, plain and simple. Very distressing to me because I absolutely loved this show and so looked forward to the premiere.

I said it once and I'll say it again. I just don't get the outrage. It must be the strong feelings fans had for these characters because there have been many human on human killings just as grusome and even some zombie on human more grusome IMO. Torture porn is kinda extreme again IMO.

Just a few ....

Hershels head being chopped off by the govenor and held up. Tjey showed him doing it, showed the mangled body on the ground.

Rick biting the guys neck and then repeatedly stabbing his partner. Shown in graphic detail.

Zombie on human

T dog, I had to leave the room it was so graphic.

The guy killed against the fence last season while Michonne escapes. It was horrible.

The worst for me though was Noah in the revolving door. Probably the most graphic of all deaths on every season.

These are just a small number I can recall though . I guess I don't really understand why watching a person completely ripped apart with blood everywhere is ok, but seeing sundays episode isn't. I agreed it was really graphic so I'm not disputing that, I also agree it was not necessary it could have been more implied bludgeoning, but to stop watching the show when the show has depicted just as graphic scenes if not more graphic is difficult to understand. If that was torture porn we have all been watching it for many, many seasons. They were killed quickly and graphically like a ton of other characters on the show. This outrage and different view of these deaths as the show going too far is a head scratcher for me.

We've seen CANNIBALISM, dismemberings, beheadings, disemboweling, all OF humans BY humans on this show and NOW people are crying foul????

Yes. I am not at all saying everything was ok before. Yes it is a violent and gross show, but I was able to see the fantastic drama that was at the heart of the show. A lot of the stuff on this show was tough to watch, eating Bob's leg, the troughs at Terminus, Dale's death, Gareth's death, Noah and Aiden's death, Claimers attack, just to name a few. But I thought this went way too far. A lot of the previous mentioned was implied or shown at a minimum. Abraham and especially Glenn's death were shown in long excruciating detail. For everything in this world there is a line that is crossed where it goes too far. This was it for me with TWD. The violence, I always felt, was a supporting player to the true story, which was the human characters and their relationships. I feel that in this episode that the gratuitous violence eclipsed the drama and story. Just how I feel and my opinion. I understand not everyone agrees.

For me last season was slow and lacked a real story, after this episode I feel a reboot coming on. We will have a story progressing, new characters and dynamics. I actually have a renewed interest for the show because for me it was fading. The only thing that would have made it better was if they killed abraham in the finale and left it there and opened the season immediately following leading up to the unexpected glenn death. I am not a fan of any of the graphic scenes, but it always has and will be part of the show. It was an important shift in their lives and will add some new life to the show. The deaths were necessary and will hopefully get us back to the fantastic drama the show was missing last season. I think it will and am looking forward to seeing it play out.

Everyone on this planet has different opinions and viewpoints. I love the subjectivity of every situation. I thought this was the most drawnout and worst deaths on the show, in addition to Noah's death, which I still haven't seen in full(I saw the first few seconds and covered my eyes after that. haha)

Not condemning anyone here or anywhere for wanting to still watch. Just offering my 2 cents.

Don't know what I did but my reply is the last 2 paragraphs of the quoted reply. My bad.

Feelings are personal and everybody has their line in the sand I suppose. Sorry you'll miss out on the rest of the series...I doubt it's going to get less violent or gratuitous.

Plus the very first scene of the show featured Rick shooting a zombie first-grader in the face...what face she had left, that is. In 7 seasons, the violence has never been implied.

Glenn and Abe's deaths were gross (I read the comics, so I knew how ugly it was going to get, right down to the dangling eyeball), and I can definitely see why people would be turned off. But I don't get the argument that the show has never been this violent before. It's always been this disgusting. It hurts more because we loved these characters, but...the show has always been this violent.

Exactly. I have a feeling when Negan gets it (I assume he eventually will), even if he is Lucille'd violently no one will complain. I do think it's worse when it's a character we like, JMHO.

I'll be honest...I was way more upset/disturbed by the HORSE being killed in episode 1 (and another horse last season) than I was by any death or violence shown so far. In fact, I shut the show off when I saw the demise of the horse coming a mile away. That's right. I've never seen all of episode 1!

Exactly! My son talked me into watching the show a few years back and when I saw that horse- that was it. I left the room. I can't stand seeing animals being tortured or killed. Although the season premiere was a very disturbing episode, I think it was very well done. Of course I looked away when they showed Glenn and screamed nooo! My son shook his head and said" It's just a tv show".

It was brutal watching Glenn's death. I knew it would be. Abe's was too but not quite on the same level. I think it had to be or fans would have rioted for the show not giving it enough for a premiere and after waiting so long to know what happened. We all loved Glenn. Most of us knew he'd die so they had to add some level of emotional and shock factor to it. They succeeded. Personally, I thought it was well done. Gruesome, yes. But I was more disturbed by the thought of Rick being forced to cut off Carl's arm. I was sooo glad he didn't! And I agree that it was hard watching Noah's death. That one got to me too. This show has always been known for shock factor and gore. They have never sugar coated anything and have always tried to keep it as real as it probably would be if an apocolypse ever did happen. It is part of what makes it unpredictable and keeps fans. I understand it isn't for everyone. That is totally fine. But I love the show. I will keep watching. For me, this episode just made me excited to see what's coming next.

JDM and Andrew talked about this in an interview -- they spent a week filming the death of each and every member in that group -- with Rick having to replay his emotions every time over and over. JDM said it was torture by the end because he really likes everyonein the cast and it really affected him to have to keep beating them to death to keep the secret of who it actually was. Personally, I think that was a colossal waste of time and money.......and acting skills!

I read on another site that they set up that rumor ( each actor in a death scene with Negan)
Not all were filmed for the ending

But who knows what really was done

So many stories were out there prior to the show on Sunday

Well, Judith is still alive, so there appear to some lines the writers and producers won't cross...yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they do.
