We first went in 2012. Then in 2014. We were planning on going this past spring and life just didn't work that way. We had such good times at ASMu and ASMO and had awesome luck with weather each time.

We did go to Wisconsin Dells twice for mini-vacations each autumn and stayed at a water park hotel in a room we could park around three Disney All Star rooms in -complete with fireplace, kitchenette, spa products, private double balcony, 2 flat screens, queen beds...etc. for less than a SIXTH of the price. We also ate at area restaurants for sit down meals and bought souvenirs galore. The water park was absolutely gorgeous and actually pretty relaxing.

But I'm starting to miss the Florida palm trees and the parks and know the family is too. It is just a LOT harder to want to go back to the value resorts after a couple of trips like these....

I know Disney is expensive and the plane ride there but we don't want to go again just to feel let down.

I was thinking a moderate resort... but then again I'm thinking off site. Maybe it's time NOT to give Disney all of our money? Gasp.

Has anyone transitioned to "out of the bubble"? Thoughts?

If you're into nice, reasonably priced vacations, there are plenty of better options than WDW. If you have Disney in your blood, there is no substitute--and that's cool. In my opinion the moderates at WDW are a considerable step up from the values, but if you can have a great vacation for your family at a sixth the price of a value trip, and you don't have the Mouse addiction, go with it.

Perfectly stated.:)

OP,I think the fact that you are taking time to post about this probably means you have the Disney Bug.

If you didn't,I don't think you would even question which vacation is better-"logically" the Wisconsin Dells scenario makes much more "sense" to everyone EXCEPT us "WDW Geeks".:)

There's nothing to loose by staying "out of the bubble". We have stayed at the Sheraton Vistana numerous times and love it there. A 10-night stay usually runs in the $2,000-$2,200 range for us and that's for a 2-bed, 2-bath unit.

Disney is expensive, but when you're addicted (as I am), money becomes no object (sort of, lol).

I pay for the Disney experience, and the experience we enjoy as a family is staying in a deluxe resort (often CL). It's a ridiculous amount of money, but we are willing to pay it, because we know we are paying for an experience we enjoy.

It wouldn't be a Disney vacation for us, if we were staying off site.

Our first Disney trip was offsite and we had a great time. By staying offsite you won't be immersed in the Disney bubble, but you can still have a great trip. If you don't want to stay value and a moderate isn't in the budget, I think staying offsite is a good alternative. You can still eat at the resorts, visit DTD, etc and have just as good of a time (IMO) staying offsite as you would being on property ;).
