A new ticketing option has been added at Mickey’s Backyard BBQ at Walt Disney World. Mickey’s Backyard BBQ is a seasonal offering that takes place at the outdoor Pavilion located at the Settlement at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. In addition to a great meal, it includes entertainment by a live country band, line dancing and Character appearances.

Guests can now reserve a Category 1 Ticket, which will give them early access to the Backyard Pavilion, priority seating, early access to food and drinks, plus a meet and greet with Mickey and his friends before the show.

Category 1 Tickets are $72 for adults (ages 10 and up) and $47 for kids (ages 3-9). Category 2 Tickets are $62 for adults and $37 for kids.

Two table service credits on the Disney Dining Plan can be used for either category at Mickey’s Backyard BBQ.

Tickets can be booked online or by calling 407-WDW-DINE.

We plan on doing this next trip. This is more expensive then I would have imagined. Worth it?

After paying $62.00 I think an extra $10.00 to get category 1 is worth it? At least in Disney's "World".

"Two table service credits on the Disney Dining Plan can be used for either category at Mickey's backyard BBQ."

If it's 2 dining credits for either, 'everyone' would want Cat. 1 (naturally), so a mad rush for that Cat. etc. etc. That part doesn't seem logical or add up to me!! Why settle for second best (?) for the same entitlement? :confused3 I would feel slighted, and rightly so!! :(

Anyone done the Bar Boo Cue on Halloween? Can you recommend it or just stick to the resort Trick or Treating? Cheers

I would recommend the BBQ. not on Halloween though. Trick or Treat usually is 7-9 and by the time you get out of dinner it will be over. Definitely do it though on another day if you get the chance, my daughters really enjoyed it.

NOTE1: Tables are long picnic tables of about 40 people per table, so you sit with
others. No reserved seating, so the "mad dash" for seats can be interesting. There is
no "front row", just the end of the picnic tables. Folks start lining up about 1-hr prior
to the 5:30pm seating. Also, the characters are there for dancing and front interaction,
and usually do not go thru tables, so sometimes there is a long line trying to get to the
characters. Also noted the sides are open to the weather. They put up plastic diverters
for winter and simple fans for summer, but it does get VERY hot/humid or cold. This is
not a well heated or air conditioned pavilion. "Dancing" characters interact well with
kids in front of the stage, and younger kids love it.
.
NOTE2: Mickey BBQ was always about one-half the price of the Hoop Dee Do Review. With
the popularity of DDP, they jumped the price double, including 2-TS coupons. WITH NO
CHANGE IN MENUS; NO CHANGE IN CHARACTERS; NO CHANGES AT ALL. Cost was barely
justified at lower prices, and not worth the current price for ribs-chicken-burgers.
.
NOTE3: The characters "dance" in front of the stage, and children come up to dance with
them. This creates a lot of pushing by the kids as they try to get next to their favorite
character. There are no lines like in the park for Meet & Greet, and no handlers to keep
the kids in a line or heaving.

Have never done the BBQ due to its ridiculous pricing. If I'm going to burn two dinner credits its going to be Fulton's or let the girls experience dining at the Castle again. No way I take the BBQ over Hoop Dee Doo.

If they brought that price down some then we'd give it a shot, or maybe add something else to the entertainment.

We have this booked for our last night - we decided not to do DDP this trip so we are paying for it cash (not that you aren't when using the DDP, but anyway). We booked before they changed to the categories so we were put into cat 2. I debated calling up to see if I can upgrade to cat 1 but DH said we paid way more than its worth already and veto'ed me lol. My kids are 6 and 9 but my 6yo still loves Mickey.

Interesting.... Never knew that much about the Backyard BBQ. DW was not really a big fan of trying it, and while I like being outdoors and love the concept of an outdoor BBQ, it just seemed to expensive for what it was worth.

I do like the HDDMR. Our first time was this past August and loved it. Now our November trip with the addition of my DD19 and her BF22, we are going to do it again. Thanks for the feedback TRS. Always trusted advice from you as you have a unique insight.

My brother and his family did last year. They had a lot more characters come out and they were dressed in Halloween costumes (in addition to Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale from what I remember they at least had Donald and Jesse -trying to go off recalling pictures! and a couple others and even the normal ones were dressed in Halloween costumes). It started an hour earlier that night, at 5:30 and they were able to go trick or treating in the campground afterwards with my niece. They had an awesome night!

We just did the BBQ on Halloween night. And all the people around us, talking while leaving the venue, including us, LOVED it. We did not know about the category thing. We were told to arrive at 6:15, which we did, and there were loads of people already there (not just Cat 1 people). The characters were outside for photos and autographs, in costumes. Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, Goofy, Donald and Pluto. Jessie and Woody were inside later. I was slightly annoyed that we did not arrive earlier, because we only got one photo before they all left. Others were apparently told to arrive at 6:30.

They brought us inside in groups. They sort of pointed us where to sit. We went up to get food, with no wait, as they have 4 identical lines, both sides, so 8 lines. Ribs were very good, the rest was fine, the only one I did not like was the corn on cob (dried up). The band was very fun, dressed up for Halloween, with the lead singer in a nice pumpkin mini dress, and the band in skeleton t Shirts. They played lots Halloween music, along with other songs. The characters dance with the kids, moving around the dance floor, holding kids and adults hands, very active. They were doing the Electric Slide, the Locomotion train, etc. By no means did they stand in a line and get mobbed by the kids. They also walked around goofing around with people at the tables, but not in an organized fashion. I asked Pluto's handler to come to us, and it was no problem. After we ate, we had DS go meet Woody and Jessie, only a few people in this line.

When the band took a break, they had a rope handler come out and do tricks, very entertaining too. I must stress that I think this is so fun, compared to a character meal where the characters pop over, stand behind kids while they are in a chair, and move on. I guess, those of us there, did not care about the trick or treating, obviously. We were not typical, as we had just me, DH, and DS (adult with Downs and Autism).

I kept alert, and saw Mickey & Minnie head over to an area outside for photos, so we hustled over there with no real line. The BAD part about this, was it was a terrible spot for photos, too dark. Flashes would make it too bright. So people who snagged a photo BEFORE the BBQ, made out better. We got photos with all the others inside, by approaching them for a quick snap on dance floor or walking around.

We do not drink, but for people drinking beer or wine, it is unlimited. Like the Mickey Bars. :D We would absolutely do it again. But we had decided to try new things(for us) this trip, like this BBQ, instead of MNSSHP or other character meals.

And the characters DID have handlers.

PS, I am the "one" who did not really enjoy Hoop Dee Doo much, but I loved the BBQ.

I am glad you had an awesome time at the BBQ. I have not done it yet but would probably give it a go.
We did the HDDMR in August (Me, DW and DD11) and we loved it. We are more of "Country" type people (as far as entertainment goes anyway) so it worked well for us. It's not for everyone though. I think that is one of the reason that there is such a WIDE variety of activities and shows. That way there is something for everyone.

I think maybe part of it was that I did not like the entertainment at Hoop as much, and the food was so-so. But it was also that it was just me, and my son who is non-verbal special needs adult. So we sat at a tiny table, all alone, just us 2, and all the people around us seemed to be in large groups having lots of fun! That is no ones fault, it is just my situation on some trips. As for the rest of the crowd, I am glad they were having fun of course, it just made me feel worse for some reason.

I agree, there is always something at Disney for everyone. We also do not like Fantasmic (at Studios, like the DL version), and we love eating at Sci Fi every trip, and many hate that place. I was just giving the other side of the BBQ review, some (many?) dislike it and some people like us loved it.

No worries there.... I have heard as many like it as do hate it. I have never been so I have no decision either way. I hear one of the biggest complaints though is the "Value" of it. (Lot of money for little value). Of course value is such a subjective thing, that it's really hard to judge based on someone else. Like the DDP. I don't see the value in it. While it's a LOT of food, it's more then I would order otherwise. So spending that kind of money on the food is not a good value for me. Plus we didn't even use all our credits (so even less of a value). Others however think the value is in the convenience. No need to worry about whipping out the card PLUS their older ones can get their own food if they want. (with boundaries of course.)

One of these trips we will slip into the BBQ. That way we can get our OWN opinion on it. I am truly glad you were able to enjoy it with your son.

I did not realize this had been changed to Category seating! We must have made our ADR before the switch. We'll be there over Thanksgiving. I don't care about priority seating or being first in the buffet line, but I had definitely planned to go early to get character pics before the BBQ. Will they no longer let Cat. 2 people do that at all?
