DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Not much new to report except some unexpected warm weather here in St. John's. Broke out the shorts today when the temps got up to 21C/69F, which made it the hottest spot in Canada today. I don't know if that's shorts weather for some of you gents in the south, but it's like summer in October for us.

My van is looking a little better now after my brother buffed off most of the yellow paint. Obviously still some damage there, but I won't worry about it until spring. Our Canadian winter roads with snow and salt will have it looking filthy soon enough anyway, so it won't be as noticeable.

And please, please, PLEASE! keep your two candidates south of our border.
Actually, I'm thinking you want them south of your Southern border.
Yes. That would be something I would vote for.
I've been doing my best to not get political, and being Canadian I don't have any direct investment in it, but I'm just fascinated by this election, kind of like if your neighbour drove his car through his house. You'd feel bad for him, but you can't help but stare and shake your head at it.

Its getting bigger every year, but nothing like the states. More parties than trick or treating.
Cool that you decorate, and props for the Disney villain centre piece. I actually lived in Aberdeen for a year in 1997-98 and there was absolutely nothing for Halloween. Interesting that it's grown a little since then.

We haven't had a trick or treater in years. We live on a dark road that people tend to travel a little to fast on. Just means more candy left over for me.
I live in a pretty new neighbourhood with a lot of young families. We get 80-100 kids stop by. We buy enough for about 120 and of course eat the left overs :)

So this just happened

Booked for March 4th to 10th at All Star Sports.

Been awhile since I've been there for more than one day so I am looking forward to this big time.
Awesome! It should be early enough to avoid the worst of the spring break madness.

Well.... this should be interesting.

In most jobs, there are your stars and your.... not so much stars.
I'm working the night shift tonight, with my sore back (but it's slow, so manageable) and two of the three people working tomorrow day shift just called in sick... leaving our least capable person by themselves.
I have a sinking feeling that I'm going to be made to stay.

I really, really don't wanna.

Holy heat wave, Batman!

We live in a newer area too. We get around 100 - 120.
I suspect we'll get more this year. I think our most was 150.

Morning all. Sitting in orthodontist office this AM. I guess he cares enough about oldest's teeth as the bill is already paid. I get to spend the next few days on campus, so back to the 144 mile daily commute. You all have a good day.

Glad to hear the van is semi repaired. As for the election, yes, it is rubbernecking at its best. You just drive by so slow twisting the neck to stare at how something so gruesome could be happening.

The sad thing that no one realizes or refuses to admit is that regardless of who wins the election, we all lost. Neither candidate has a plan to address the massive debt, out of control military & health care spending, excessive taxation, or infantilism policy.

Well.... this should be interesting.

That is rough. Hope you get to feeling better and the shift isn't too long.

Morning all! We're down to 12 days before our trip. We can't wait. It's been a long summer and it'll just be DW and I this time. We're looking forward to some alone time. I've been stalking Delta's website daily looking at available seats for several earlier flights. Right now, we don't get into MCO until 4:30. If I can snag an earlier flight, that'll get us there at 10:20.

Ya'll have a good day!

144 daily miles! :earseek: I'll stop complaining about my 70 mile/1.5 hour round-trip commute!

Good Monday morning Campers!

Sunny but cool here this morning after a wet, windy weekend. Anyone want to come by and rake leaves? I've got scotch, bourbon, rum, vodka and beer.

Soccer final didn't quite go as hoped as we lost 1-0. We controlled most of the play had a few shots but they converted the one good chance they got. Oh well, you can't win every year.

I think the most we ever had was about 20 kids and most of those were kids that knew my wife from school and wanted to see the teacher.

Well.... this should be interesting.

I really, really don't wanna.

So are you still at work?

Norm - 144 miles!! Wow, I hope it is mostly traffic-free.

Hey guys,

The multi quote thing isn't working so can't reply with your quotes so... Sorry about the van, 12 days to kidless vacation - Whoo Hoo, Hope they don't make you stay at work so you can rest your back, and 144 miles is a long commute. I am not into Halloween but the kid is. After school today, she plans on decorating the house. Guess I have to buy candy again even though we don't get that many kids.

Spent the weekend with friends in the Keys. Did not go diving and they only did two trips but a good time was had by all. The weather finally broke yesterday and it is a humidity free 76 degrees. Beautiful day today and I hope it holds like this for a while. Highlight of the day is getting a new toilet for downstairs. Such is life.

(I suppose "thanks for sharing crabs" is not the best statement, but I'm sure you get what I mean :P)

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I thought about being snarky at first and wanted to ask how fast the post was going when it hit her, but she was pretty upset at the time and I thought it wouldn't help.

You are a wise man. That's one reason we have this place, so we can still use our good lines.:thumbsup2

I don't understand how repainting costs almost as much as a new bumper, but I'll just trust my brother with it.

Always nice to know a guy who can fix stuff.

Back at work. My back is... at work.
Should be a slow day. That coupled with pain meds and muscle relaxers should get me through it.

Yuck. Sorry it's carried on this long. Hope you're surviving.

I had no idea that they hadn't won since 1908... holy crap!
It's almost certain that no one alive today saw that game.

I think pretty much everyone is a Cubs fan at this point. Ok, except for the teams in their division.

And please, please, PLEASE! keep your two candidates south of our border.
Actually, I'm thinking you want them south of your Southern border.

::yes:: This. The whole election process has been an epic fail.

Booked for March 4th to 10th at All Star Sports.

Been awhile since I've been there for more than one day so I am looking forward to this big time.

Congrats! Always nice to have something to look forward to on the calendar.

Via Napoli is still my favorite at Epcot WS. I also really enjoy pizza & beer.

Story checks out.

I've been doing my best to not get political, and being Canadian I don't have any direct investment in it, but I'm just fascinated by this election, kind of like if your neighbour drove his car through his house. You'd feel bad for him, but you can't help but stare and shake your head at it.

It's so hard to look at this election and think, "We did this to ourselves."

:faint: Are those trainees ready yet?

The sad thing that no one realizes or refuses to admit is that regardless of who wins the election, we all lost. Neither candidate has a plan to address the massive debt, out of control military & health care spending, excessive taxation, or infantilism policy.

The refusal to touch the debt problem is so infuriating. Sooner or later, the bill always comes due.

Hang in there.

Barely.

Hope they don't make you stay at work so you can rest your back

Well that sucks.

It does.
tired.

The life of Cj??

Yuck. Sorry it's carried on this long. Hope you're surviving.

It's gotten a lot better.
(The back. not work)

I'm back to walking normally with only a dull aching pain.

:faint: Are those trainees ready yet?

One is almost. I think.... another week or two? Dunno.

‘Morning all…
Spent the weekend up in the mountains with the young’en. An excellent diversion, some quality time spent and we got to see and hear a lot of really great performances. Sure beats working.

Oops, well life got in the way there for the last week.
It has a tendency to do that from time to time.

As a life long Cub fan going to Wrigley as a young kid and throughout my life I cannot explain the joy nor the earth rattling scream let out with that last out! GO CUBS GO!
Can only imagine…
We all get a historic WS this time around.
I may actually have to sit and watch more of it than usual.

The thermostat reads 64 degrees this AM, and DW is wanting the heat turned on. I of course, would prefer to save money and not turn on the heat until December.
So…
Who finally won that tug of war?
(I know who would be conceding were it my household)

This guy saw it last time.
View attachment 202623

Clearly our household is Halloween decorating today.
Clearly…
You may need to get you guest something to nibble on; he’s lookin’ a mite peaked, there.
My question is why y’all have a map of “the colonies” hanging up in the dining room

And please, please, PLEASE! keep your two candidates south of our border.
Actually, I'm thinking you want them south of your Southern border.
They’d demand that we pay of the containment and upkeep…

Oh? Anything different in that picture from the rest of the year?
Ironically, probably less cobwebs.

Booked for March 4th to 10th at All Star Sports.

Been awhile since I've been there for more than one day so I am looking forward to this big time.
That’s a fine time to be “on World”. Y’all should have a blast.

We haven't had a trick or treater in years. We live on a dark road that people tend to travel a little to fast on. Just means more candy left over for me.
We’re in an older neighborhood with mostly older teens.
Haven’t seen many takers in the past couple years so we’ll probably go out this time and not worry about it much.

We've got Rose and Crown booked for next month. I've been wanting to try it, but never quite got around to it. I'm guessing that, based on it being a regular for you, it's worth the effort?
Opinions vary, but it’s one of my favorite stops.
Excellent steaks and plenty of brew.
Used to be my favorite until we got over to the Cali Grill.
Now it’s holding on to the second spot for us.

Good luck on the match. Most importantly, don't hurt anything. You're old and don't heal as fast. :lmao:
Sage advice and I do believe that warning applies to most of us ‘round here.

That’s shorts weather in the Carolinas (except for my DW that is)
Actually that’s got the makings of on very fine day and something we don’t see very often.

Hate that happened to so new a vehicle.
It did buff out pretty well though and I’d be waiting a while to have it completely repaired
(assuming I did it at all)

I’d feel bad too, ‘cetp it’s my house that’s getting plowed into.
Oddly, I’m not surprised by this mess.
The divide and always existed and the current battle has been brewing for quite some time.

I have a sinking feeling that I'm going to be made to stay.

I really, really don't wanna.
<sigh> yeah...
Well that didn’t go well at all.
You sir may need even more Disney.

The sad thing that no one realizes or refuses to admit is that regardless of who wins the election, we all lost.
Yep… we’ve already lost.
But I have a different outlook on the actual why of it.

I get to spend the next few days on campus, so back to the 144 mile daily commute.
That is one seriously oppressive commute there.
But we do what we have to.

Highlight of the day is getting a new toilet for downstairs. Such is life.
Beats having to clean out an outhouse but certainly doesn’t live up to the excitement levels of a weekend in the Keys.

So this just happened

Randall feel free to add this to page one.
Gonna miss you by one day we get in on the 11th.
We booked the Quick Service Dining Plan but there will be a couple of ADRs we will make. Crystal Palace and Rose N Crown are traditional places for us.

Declan will turn 16 when we are there so we will let him decide.
Similar in the Crystal Palace is DDs favorite, huge Pooh fan even still and Rose N Crown is my favorite. Got Crystal on our Christmas trip and I have Rose N Crown on St Patrick's day.

Not too bad and nice job handling it there Dad in terms of rolling with it.

Enjoy, adult only trip sounds like a good time. Not sure we are at a stage yet where we would do DaWorld without at least one of the kids.

Spent the weekend up in the mountains with the young’en. An excellent diversion, some quality time spent and we got to see and hear a lot of really great performances. Sure beats working.

That sounds good, but.... performances?

They’d demand that we pay of the containment and upkeep…

Can't you just set them adrift in a small boat.
with no motor
or paddles
and a slow leak?
maybe a fast leak?

Well that didn’t go well at all.
You sir may need even more Disney.

March is a long way off.

Man I'm tired.

I think pretty much everyone is a Cubs fan at this point. Ok, except for the teams in their division.
Well... and possibly the Indian's fans.

I don't have a team myself (there was no MLS in FL when I was a kid and there still ain't any in the Carolinas)
so I'm good which ever way it falls out, but...
Historically speaking it's possible that I may just side a smidgen more with the Cubs.

Similar in the Crystal Palace is DDs favorite, huge Pooh fan even still and Rose N Crown is my favorite. Got Crystal on our Christmas trip and I have Rose N Crown on St Patrick's day.
Regardless of the choices...
I envy your timetable.

That sounds good, but.... performances?
The School of Music at Western Carolina University hosts an annual regional music competition. Their location puts the campus only a couple hours travel time from five states and lets them draw in a lot of the better schools in the area. Net result: a lot of fine entertainment and even more truly excellent music to be experienced.
And then as a bonus we get to see the POTM perform as well...
Twice...

As one of the better athletic bands in the US, that's a good thing.

Can't you just set them adrift in a small boat.
with no motor
or paddles
and a slow leak?
maybe a fast leak?
I like it, but it wouldn't solve the problem.
The individuals involved are just a manifestation of the real problem which is the divisions in our culture.
That ain't going away any time soon.

March is a long way off.
Yes it i...
Wait?
You get a trip on the books that we haven't heard about yet?
(or am I just not paying attention)

Ok I'm having multi quote issues on the phone. Took the kid on for an appointment with one of his surgeons today. Ended up killing midday of a day because we decided to visit the good folks at the PICU and NICU while we were close. It was great to see everyone and let them see how well he's doing now.

As for the election... without getting too political I can only think of a certain disney quote... I'm surrounded by idiots. I mean there's no way around it, we as a society choose this freak show to be our 2 candidates.

Pkondz... sorry you're in pain and at work. But I'm just going to rub it in that I avoided going into work at all today.

CJ, I think Zerf hacked your account. He's the only one I've ever seen get excited about a toilet installation.

144 daily miles! :earseek: I'll stop complaining about my 70 mile/1.5 hour round-trip commute!

I do get paid time for travel and gas reimbursement. Still tiring consecutive days.

Norm - 144 miles!! Wow, I hope it is mostly traffic-free.

Sorry to hear about the soccer match. 2nd ain't bad. Maybe you can put up a sign for trick-or-treaters, telling them the candy is under the leaves. :lmao:

It's 70 MPH straight route for most of it.

Getting slowly better. Daily improvement.
...

Maybe it's time for alcohol. It does fix everything.

Guess I have to buy candy again even though we don't get that many kids.
.

Ahhh, more life of CJ. We'll get lots of trick or treaters here, unless the weather is bad. We are near the construction center of town, and a highly coveted neighborhood due to the school system. I'm trying to talk DW into selling and cash out on the gold rush.

So…
Who finally won that tug of war?
(I know who would be conceding were it my household)
.

I'm winning the thermostat issue for now. I lost the selling house for gold rush plan.

CJ, I think Zerf hacked your account. He's the only one I've ever seen get excited about a toilet installation.

:lmao::rotfl::lmao:

We're down to 12 days before our trip. We can't wait. It's been a long summer and it'll just be DW and I this time. We're looking forward to some alone time.
Sounds good. I'm envious of you guys who have done adults only Disney trips. I need to work on that someday.

Soccer final didn't quite go as hoped as we lost 1-0. We controlled most of the play had a few shots but they converted the one good chance they got. Oh well, you can't win every year.
Too bad the game didn't go your way. Better luck next year.

Getting slowly better. Daily improvement.
Good to hear it's getting better. Hopefully you can get away from work for a while and rest up.

A weekend in the Keys sounds fantastic. A new toilet, not so much. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

Spent the weekend up in the mountains with the young’en. An excellent diversion, some quality time spent and we got to see and hear a lot of really great performances. Sure beats working.
A weekend in the mountains and music sounds like a match made in heaven. Can't complain about that.

Hate that happened to so new a vehicle.
It did buff out pretty well though and I’d be waiting a while to have it completely repaired
(assuming I did it at all)
Yeah, I'm not so sure I'll do anything with it. I might get my brother to repaint it in the spring in his spare time, to keep the cost down.

I do get paid time for travel and gas reimbursement. Still tiring consecutive days.
Wow. At least you get compensated for the gas. But I can see how that would be very tiring.
