The Running Thread - 2016

Favorite snack is definitely a tough one, but I guess I have to go with a classic and say: Mickey Bar

@ZellyB I could not agree with you more! I pretty much like everything ppl have shared, but for me it is all about the Mickey Bar!

ATTQOTD: The cupcakes that are the size of your head that you can get at Main Street Bakery and maybe some other places. :) Last holiday trip, I got a chocolate one with about 10 lbs of vanilla frosting on top, it was Mickey Mouse Christmas themed. And then a couple days later I got an Olaf carrot cake one at the ABC Commissary. :)

*sigh* I love cupcakes. I wish I had one right now.

So ... today's good news:

I'm out of the gel cast!! I can start light weight-bearing on my left side, which is amazing.

The bad news:
The new brace I'm in on my ankle, while much thinner and will allow me to wear sneakers, is INCREDIBLY painful. Good with the bad, I guess. We'll see how my PT session goes tomorrow - I just walked a little bit today and I'm already bushed, and I'm definitely still favoring my left foot when I do things like stand up or get out of my truck. I know that's definitely mental, and it's something I have to push past pretty quickly before it starts to affect muscle memory.

Yikes, I am so glad I waited until after my little procedure today. If you have turned 50, you probably have a good idea what I had today..... 36 hours of no food was torture!

ATTQOTD: Mickey Bar for me, but I think I need another trip to try some of the others shown.

@LSUlakes, you might be late on Hotels for downtown Houston. I haven't checked availability, but I know many members in our running club make reservations at the Hilton Americas the day after the marathon. I usually just drive down morning of.

ATTQOTD: NOT a good question when you've skipped lunch ;) My first thought was a margarita from La Cava. Not sure if that counts as a snack in most people's book, but it does in mine! If beverages are not allowed, then the classic but still fabulous Mickey Bar wins.

This 100-percent counts! Also, it's citrus ... and fights scurvy, so it's basically healthy for you!

ATTQOTD: Brown Derby - Bombay Sapphire extra dry martini, straight up, 3 olives. Heaven in an ice-cold glass.:cloud9:

I ALSO endorse this too! Heaven is a Sapphire Martini ... man, now I want one.

QOTD: This may not count as a snack but since we aren't being graded I don't care. STRAWBERRY SOUP at 1900 Park Fare. I LOVE IT! I made it at home once and it was pretty close but still not the same.

But, my last couple of trips to WDW I have eaten very well. I went for races so that helps. I had a couple of Mickey Bars after the marathon this year but that's it. Oh, and I did have strawberry soup the night before.

Due to family history I had to start at 40! And round two for me is coming up this Tuesday. So I feel your pain! But hey good job taking care of your health. At least that is what I keep telling myself...

Thanks. taking care of my health is what I keep telling myself as well!

The nurses complimented me on my low heart rate, so running seems to do something for me!

ATTQOTD: Since a lot of the snacks at Disney could be categorized as desserts, my favorite is the chocolate ginger cake served at Teppan Edo. I've always had to take it back to the room from being too full from dinner so it's been a nice snack later. Ok, it's been breakfast a couple times, but hey it's Disney!

The cinnamon roll though from Gaston's Tavern puts a lot of cinnamon rolls to shame, huge, warm, and such a nice treat to fuel a couple more hours of park time. All these great food pictures, so many new things to try in February!

QOTD: What are some unpleasant smells that you have experienced while out for a run? (Could be a race or training run)

Like most people have already mentioned - sewage, smoke, skunks, and trash.

Nearly all unpleasant smells only last a few seconds. However, this one time I hit a patch of skunk and it was so bad I had to stop (once out of ground zero) because it made my eyes hurt it was so potent! No we weren't victims of a skunking!

YAY for progress. Sorry that the brace is painful though. Is there maybe something they can do about it? A different style or something that would give you the support without the pain? I hope PT goes well and you continue to see good progress.

Yep, been there. The fasting was the worst part. I like to EAT!

I wish you didn't have to go through that. I guess it is good that progress is working its way towards wearing normal shoes, but I hope the "incredibly painful" turns into only "slightly painful" and then the pain goes away sooner than later. Can I send you some Chicago area beers to help make the pain go away? Let me know and I will! (I mean it)

Can I join your "have to get checked at 40" club! Ummm...Yay??? I also get the pleasure of starting mammograms at 43.
I'm hoping in the next few years the world invents some kind of blood test you can take once a year that just tells you what you have and it only costs $5 and you can eat endless food beforehand.

WOO HOO!!! :cheer2: Progress!!! This is great news!

ATTQOTD: Since drinks = snacks, I'm going with blood orange margarita from La Cava, Grand Marnier slushie from France and Grapefruit martini from Brown Derby. Its all about the Vitamin C. :lmao:

Playing catch up again...

Pic QOTD: I usually don't buy pictures, but I bought all of them for my first marathon (Disney 2016). I loved looking at everyone's pics. I have failed miserably at trying to post pics here in the past, maybe someone can give me a tutorial?

Smell QOTD: During my most recent race, we were running very close to the river at one point and it was an overly fishy smell, more fishy than usual. I mentioned this to my friend at the finish and she said, "oh I love that smell!" To each their own, I guess, lol! :crazy2:

Major congrats to @RunDisneyDad on Boston!

Today's QOTD: The best snack I've had at Disney were these dark chocolate, caramel, and sea salt candy things (best combo ever) - they were somewhere in the France pavilion.
