"I HAVE to wave to the monorail!" Sept 11-17 TR

Long story short, when I was ~6 weeks pregnant with my second child and sick as a dog, I wanted to plan a trip (Disney was my first choice, but there was a wide array of options) and DH thought traveling with kids under 5 sounds like torture but had no problem with me taking the kids on a trip. This is how I ended up planning a trip to WDW with my mom and not DH. This ended up being a good thing, since my mom's work life has gone insane and she desperately needed the break.

Cast

Me: 30 year old SAHM/freelance illustrator. Favorite princesses are Tiana and Rapunzel. Tiana doesn't have time to wait for others to make her dreams come true, and Rapunzel and I share a basic personality and interests.

Grandma: Programmer. Favorite Disney movies are Snow White, Mary Poppins, and Bedknobs and Broomsticks

IMG_20160907_131116314_zpsua5anxp4.jpg

DS: 3 years old, self proclaimed Tea Man, Cat Boy, and future race car driver. Obsessed with Finding Dory and all thing ocean. Sweetheart, my helper and a gentleman, but in a very contrary stage.

DD: 14 months, Princess Stitch. She thrives on pink, sparkly stuff, fluffy skirts, and unadulterated chaos. WDW is ALMOST chaotic enough for her, which was very convenient.

Grandma flew into our area on Sept 10, and since I'd been planning this trip for so long, all I had left to do was pack the cooler and my second set of shoes. Grandma brought some home-made Mickey shorts for DS, so I sewed up the elastic to fit him. DH and my mom talked programming while I got last minute stuff done. DS fell asleep earlier than usual, and DD took forever to fall asleep (she was at the start of a growth spurt.)

My mom and I woke up at about 6:30, and got the car packed up. The kids woke up at 7, and we were on the road at 7:30. DS looks a little loopy - he usually gets up at 8ish.

At 8, I remembered I'd forgotten that second pair of shoes. Well, crap. I wasn't going to turn around, though. We ended up stopping twice for potty breaks before our first scheduled stop at Jekyll Island, putting us there at 11:30. We thought we'd go to a quiet beach, which ended up taking a while to find.

DD's first ocean visit. She didn't think much of the ocean itself, but she loved the sand and shorebirds.
14291800_548520885336100_4202286906447853779_n_zpssteftbrv.jpg

DS, however, loves the beach.

After a stop at Dairy Queen for lunch, onward! Back on the road at 1:00.

We had goody bags with small toys in the car for a little less than every hour of travel time. This cut most meltdowns short. The only meltdowns it didn't curtail when DD needed to sleep. So it went pretty well.

IMG_20160911_170709680_zpsmuaapkmh.jpg

Orlando. DD woke up about here, and I started blowing bubbles, which had the kids giggling until the next photo.

IMG_20160911_172532789_zpsbkvl4ngj.jpg

DS was suddenly as excited as I was. He started bouncing in his seat and shouting as soon as he saw the monorail. "IT'S A MONORAIL, MOM! A MONORAIL! A DISNEY MONORAIL!"
IMG_20160911_173617180_zpsfztruge5.jpg

Oooooooooo....

Checked in to the villas. The lobby was so much nicer than the photos suggested. SO pretty. Then our room... Remember how excited my son was about seeing a monorail?

Oooooh, yeah! Talk about a great start to Disney magic!

It was after 6, so we meandered over to the main building to pick up the double stroller and get dinner. My mom chose the Grand Floridian Cafe. DS was not having it. "But I HAVE to wave at the monorail!" "You will have plenty of time for that, honey." "But I HAVE to!" "No, not really..." I also made the mistake of describing the meaty macaroni as such, instead of calling it pasta. DS was expected cheeseburger mac instead of red sauce. At least he liked the bread.

14292453_548640408657481_2218324121989232582_n_zpsz4tjgpwm.jpg

He cheered up once we were back to the room.

MK Day 1!

I had an 8:45 BOG appointment. Our alarm was set for 7, but we were up at 6:30. My mom and I were ready by the time the kids woke up just before 7. We decided to head out a little early, since DS was SO excited to ride the monorail. Went to the monorail at GF at 7:40... And it was down for maintenance. Cue fussing. So we went to the bus stop. 2 buses for every other stop came by before the MK one. Rather than try to shove through the crowd with a fussy 3 year old and double stroller, we took the first place where we could get the stroller out of the way. Then instead of sitting with DD, I stupidly had DS sit. That was a fun ride. Only the opposite of fun. Finally got to the park at 8:10, through security. Our magic bands don't work. Crap. Into line at guest relations. It was an easy fix, but still took a while with the line (and my mom completely ignored me when I tried to get her and DS's magic bands to fix the issue - fortunately the cast member she was chatting with was paying more attention.) 8:28 and we are finally in the park. We hoof it to the back of the park, park the stroller and get there at 8:44.
14233150_548857351969120_2367205917180371489_n_zpsl2d6evwr.jpg

With our pre-order, we are shown brusquely to our seats, told "drinks are over there, water bottle included with a kid's meal" (never told where to get a water bottle, and no wait staff paid attention enough for us to ask.) There were no high chairs at first, no offer of one. I had to track down a booster seat. DD fell out of it before our food got there (I caught her, spilling my coffee on myself in the process.) I finally found the only high chair in our half of the ballroom. Our food arrived, lukewarm, as I mopped up the coffee. At least the cupcake was good. At the price we paid for a small breakfast, I expected service to at least rival Waffle House, but no such luck (Waffle House would at least offer napkins if you spill coffee on yourself). "Put our service to the test..." It failed horribly. Never going to BOG again. Fortunately, it wasn't indicative of how the whole trip would go.

Lack of service aside, our food came out FAST, and we were out of there by 9:05. We wandered New Fantasyland for ~20 minutes before going to Enchanted Tales with Belle. It was adorable. DD started melting down, and we were sent to stand in the front so she could meet Belle early. After ET, we went to the baby care center. By the time DD was done, we had half an hour until our Meet Mickey FP. Where had our morning GONE? We wandered a few Main Street shops, got the kids a stuffed Marie each and DD got her first Minnie, then headed back to the front to meet the mouse. The kids were not faring well, so we knew we'd be heading back right after instead of meeting Tink as planned. We blew some bubbles as DD went into full meltdown in the inner holding area (so too was the kid behind us.) The bubbles averted the crisis for both babies and both older siblings surly attitudes disappeared. Yay! DD and DS were at least at neutral levels of grump when it was our turn. DS, so excited, walked up all solemn and silent and wide-eyed. I don't think the kid cracked a smile. DD kissed his nose, though.

I'll continue later.

MK day 1 Continued...
DD disney bounding as Belle, DS wearing Grandma-made Mickey shorts.
The monorail was still down as we left the park, so we took the ferry. SO much better than the bus. DS loved the "super fast" boat ride. DD passed out between getting off the ferry and getting to the villas. She slept for 2 hours while DS, Grandma, and I had cheese sticks, yogurt, and apples for lunch. DS enjoyed watching the monorail and people from the balcony while Grandma took care of some work and I tidied the room. DD woke up, and wanted nothing to do with any of the snacks we brought, so we headed out to get her and Grandma something to eat. We headed back at around 2 PM or so. Back to MK, only this time the monorail was working! SO much smoother all around! DS needed a potty break, so Grandma and DD shared a Mickey bar while I took him. Changed him, got back to Grandma and DD, headed to see Tinkerbell! Both kids were so much happier now.
IMG_20160912_140658812_HDR_zpsxvxblwyn.jpg

Tink was working on wing covers, so fairies can fly in the rain. I personally think they'd be great for visiting her sister. It was about 3 by this point, and DS was a bit peckish. We stopped at Casey's for some hot dogs, and every table was filled. Half with single travelers with not so much as a water bottle to occupy the table. I get it. A parade will be here soon, and it has a decent view. I'm still trying to balance 3 meals, drinks, and push a double stroller (Grandma ran in because I forgot a drink.) As I sat awkwardly on a single free chair off to the side, a guy looked around and realized there was nowhere for anyone with food to sit. "Oh! Would you like to sit here?" I'm pretty sure I raised an eyebrow with a "ya think?" thought, but I smiled, thanked him profusely, and started feeding my kids. Shortly thereafter, the Fantasy Parade came by.
IMG_20160912_153540977_zpsiklekesa.jpg

We had to tear off the end of each corn dog nugget before the kids would eat them. XD The kids finished eating a few minutes after the parade ended. We had no plans until 6:15 when I had a FP for Peter Pan's Flight. So we went back to Fantasyland to meet Minnie, Daisy, Donald, and Goofy. But then....

The splash train. I don't have good pictures from our first stop there. Animals, water, and TRAINS. DS was in heaven. He played for a while. I tried to talk him into leaving to meet characters. Nope, not having it. DD got bored with the water. Finally, DS bolted to the other side of the train, ignoring my calls to slow down, come back, etc. So we left. Went to stand in line for Minnie and Daisy. DS was in a bad mood until it was our turn with Daisy.
IMG_20160912_165323293_zpsna2mtlv0.jpg

I told Daisy what DS wanted to name DD. (After I told him Yellow Train was not an acceptable baby name) he wanted to name her Daisy Duck. She was smitten with DS. While DS doesn't look too pleased here, after the fact, he said "That Daisy Duck, she's a pretty nice guy." He was in a much better mood for Minnie... But DD was starting to melt down, because I didn't let her run to Minnie when the previous family was up there.
IMG_20160912_165833687_zpsybd83h9h.jpg

Minnie was GREAT, too! These two were among my favorite character interactions of the trip. Nope, not getting back in line - we planned to head to the baby care center, as DD was in full meltdown. Changed her, put her in the stroller, and she was asleep almost immediately. DS played at the splash train some more. A toddler somehow ended up in the splash area naked. His mom saw, but didn't bother catching/re-dressing him, just stood nearby looking annoyed. DS was weirded out enough to leave without a single complaint. Another bathroom break for him, and we left Storybook Circus at about 5:15.

IMG_20160912_095653404_zpspqhegtcu.jpg

(Note: I don't remember what time of day I took this. Looks like morning, but I don't really know.)

"What now?" "Hmmm. Do we eat something now - it's a little early for dinner with our late lunch, but DS needs..." "We need a cold snack." "Alright..." I turn into a woman on a mission.

A mission for Dole Whips.

We hoof it across MK to Adventureland and re-ask for directions. Exploring Adventureland, my plans for MK day 2 start changing. Get to Aloha Isle. Pineapple juice for DD, 2 Dole Whips, some more water.
14238324_549034868618035_1215136975206648012_n_zpsb5d5xhp0.jpg

DD hates the pineapple juice (what doppelganger is this? DD LOVES pineapple.) Grandma tries a bite - meh. I try a bite. I'm not a fan. Too sweet. DS eats enough to make up the grown-ups' indifference. DH calls at this point. It feels like a quiet moment, but it's still too loud to make out what the other is saying. Ah well. We hoof it back to PPF... and it starts raining. I get ponchos on the kids, realize I left the adult ponchos at the room. My mom doesn't listen when I try to tell her where stroller parking is (I'd looked on our way through earlier) and doesn't slow down enough for me to get her attention. It takes her 15 minutes to find stroller parking. I'm irritated, DS is annoyed about the rain and the poncho, DD wriggles out of her poncho, when we get into the FP line for PPF. And it's a 15+ minute wait in the FP line. Oof. I bring out fruit snacks for DD who hadn't touched the Dole Whips, and she gets happier. The kid behind us in line is about DD's size. He holds her hand, and DD goes in for a hug, but he turned. She stumbled a little...

So he kicked her. Knocked her down, had her bawling.

Fortunately his parents were as shocked and dismayed by this as I was. I was not a happy camper, though, even once I got my child calmed back down, and was watching everyone like hawks, pulling our kids away from him about once a minute. I normally would've been friendlier (they were a nice Minnesotan family - really sweet), but seriously. Your kid just KICKED my 14 month old, and you didn't even say sorry. Grumble grumble grouch.

Anyway. My first time on PPF. DS loved it. He was mad when we got off. I figured a dry shirt (rain plus the splash and soak) would help, so I told my mom I'd meet her at the Philharmagic shop while she got the stroller, if she'd go get the stroller. DS, however, was not remotely calm enough to look to a shirt, so we turned around to look for Grandma. She must have been faster than anticipated, though, because I got to her stroller parking and back without seeing her (DS calmer by the minute). Texted her. "Oh, we're in Castle Couture. Should we head back to you?" .... "Stay there, I'll find YOU."

In my head, my husband and mother-in-law are chirping happily about how miserable I'm gonna be all week. Understandably, I don't have any photos from this part of the day

Find Grandma and DD. Time to go to the baby care center again, but we have enough time to pick up a rice krispy treat. We go into the Main Street Bakery before remembering it's just a Starbucks. The cast member at the door directs us to the confectionary. We REALLY enjoy browsing there. Grandma lets DD out of the stroller while I find what I'm looking for (I have a small armful of merchandise.) DS wants a candy fan thing. DD is mesmerized by lollipops. Cue her trying to take all the things off the shelves, and once I get her away from displays she can reach, she bolts for the door. I literally drop everything and dive for her. Grandma says she'll pay for everything while I let DD vent some chaos. We meet back up, quick stop at the baby care center/bathrooms, then off to dinner... DD conked out the minute she was back in the stroller. We go to Cosmic Ray's, where they manage to leave out of our order what we came for (chicken nuggets), instead giving us an extra order of fries, but I was too tired to care much, and DS was happy for more fries. I got a falafel burger, but didn't realize it was just patty and bun. Oh well. Grandma took DS to the potty while I was ordering. With sleeping DD. Yeah, she woke up halfway through, and in full Princess Stitch chaos form. DD and I enjoyed the green beans and DS enjoyed the fries. Then to find a spot for fireworks. We had an obscured view off to the side of the castle.

As Tink flew overhead, my mother-in-law and husband's nay-saying in my head stopped...

14292260_549086001946255_928120526156805345_n_zpsjn4rxvoh.jpg

DS LOVED Wishes. DD didn't like the sound too much, but she loved the quieter ones. Their awe and delight made up for so many of the little annoyances of the day.

Then the cattle drive out. Oh well.
When the traffic was "really clear"...

IMG_20160912_213133972_zpsay9wuhlq.jpg

Sorry it's so blurry. I was trying to not get separated from my mom and kids.

Park day one? Kind of a downer, but I learned a lot and adjusted plans and expectations. Lesson 1: Not much will get done, so don't plan on much. Since Day 2 was intended to be AK+HS, I pared it down to just HS.

Oh Julia, Julia! Wherefore art thou Julia!

Guess who visited on our HS day?

Our only plan for day 2 was dinner at Mama Melrose's. So the kids slept in until 9 (I slept until 8:45.) WOOHOO.
14355103_549268065261382_6551110485705859163_n_zpsygtlxxsz.jpg

We got into HS at 10:20ish. We wandered back towards the back, assessing the Star Wars situation - super crowded. Kept walking to Muppets. Went into the show - DS loved it (and has called me and his dad muppets since then). DD, however, hated both the glasses and the explosions. I got some good cuddles, though. Let her down to run around a bit...

IMG_20160913_111811884_zpsi7rlii0r.jpg

The sparrows are her favorite Disney attraction. Them and the ducks.

I wanted to get WDW ornaments, so I wandered into the Christmas shop while my mom watched the kids. Tiana for me, R2 for DH, Marie for DS (seriously, this boy LOVES "Marina"), and I immediately saw an Alice teapot that I thought my mom would love. I'd been planning on getting her the Mary Poppins Mickey ears for a while, but... She and the kids followed me in as it started sprinkling, and DD chose Sven the reindeer (DS had eyes only for Marie, as expected.) Grandma saw the Alice ornament in my hand, so I asked her opinion. She looked at all the ornaments in the shop. The Mary ears were her second favorite, but the teapot blew them away. Yay! DS loved THIS shop - he's a mid-December baby, and says that he loves Christmas time because it also means his birthday (this kid sings Christmas carols, reads Christmas stories, and watched Polar Express year round.) DD also loved the shop - sparkles and unlimited things to make Mommy say "no" about (it was one grown-up browses and watches DS, the other watches DD.) My mom also got a photo frame ornament for us. Sent them back to the room (somehow, Christmas ornaments in a stroller all day seemed like a bad idea.) DS seemed a little testy - time to eat.

We had no plans, but the Sci-Fi Diner sounded perfect - distraction for DS, hearty food for me. I was famished, having only eaten a tangerine for breakfast.
14355043_549329045255284_6147951278283752154_n_zpsdracrtdu.jpg

We did the walk-in seating. I had the seasonal burger. It was gorgeous. The kids and Grandma were also pretty happy with their food, but DD needed bubbly distraction before food came. Once she was done eating, she started melting down again, so we left ASAP for the baby center.
She was happier in the stroller, so we stopped for the Stormtroopers on parade... I tried to get a good shot, but my video was better. My kids may well have bumped them with their feet, they were so close. Ever seen a stormtrooper try to stay in character but not intimidate the little kids? It was awkward and cute.

IMG_20160913_130906999_zpscwzvuz7r.jpg

We headed for the baby center, but 3 minutes of walking, and...

IMG_20160913_143130495_HDR_zpsv0jdx5vl.jpg

I needed to get something to keep rain off my glasses, so I stopped in a hat shop while my mom kept DD moving/asleep. DS came in and chose the 2016 Mickey hat, and I chose a set of Minnie ears for DD. Wandered back to the Disney Junior stuff, and there was a super short line for Sofia. DS saw, pointed, so we went to wait for the derby-racing princess, but she left for a break right as we got to the front. DS and I danced to the music from the show. The cast member asked if he liked Sofia. He didn't hear her. "Yeah, he does. Especially the racing." "Most boys say they are only waiting for their sister or something." "Hey, DS, do you like Sofia?" "Yeah, she's great!" I shrug, and we resume dancing. Then Sofia came out. She loved DS' Mickey hat with the propeller. DS was obviously sheepish this time, instead of just starstruck, shuffling his feet and chancing a half smile. They danced a tiny little bit. It was fairly cute.

Remember how I mentioned I got caught in the rain but was fine without a poncho? I should've changed when I changed DS into dry clothes. I'm not gonna post those photos here.

Then Jake! DS also ran to this line, holding my hand. "Do you want to go up on your own, buddy?" "YEAH!"

IMG_20160913_144246779_TOP_zpspdaooi97.jpg

He also liked Jake, but poor Jake had to try soooo hard to get DS to actually come up to him. Then we walked around the corner....

"Do you see that?" "MOM! MOMMY! It's PLUTO! It's Pluto!" He has a death grip on my hand as he tries to run through the barriers. "Mom, Mommy, it's Pluto!" "Yes, sweetie. Do you want to go up on your own again?" "Yes! Pluto!" As we got closer, he alternated between excited jumping and frozen-in-place trembling. Then his time. He ran up, then stopped exactly as far as he is in the photo and stared stone faced. Pluto seemed sad... "He is SUPER excited to be meeting you." Whew! Pluto knelt and beckoned DS in for a hug. DS managed a tiny little half smile.
IMG_20160913_144937098_zps6htmngt9.jpg

Then... "Hey, buddy, do you want to see the Disney Junior show?" There was pretty much no stand by line and it was about 8 minutes away. So we stood in line, and a cast member had a frustrated little girl use the magic words to open the door, to all the little onlookers' delight.

That show, or more specifically my son's response to it, was totally worth the whole trip. He was entranced, he snuggled close in my lap unless audience participation was requested. When doubloons fell, he caught a few. He has never been so attentive or still in his waking hours. When we got out and found Grandma and DD (who woke up mid-show), DS pulled out some of his "doubloons" and gave them to his sister. Awwwwwww!

We went back to Tatooine Traders to find something for DH. I got most of his souvenirs here.

(Have to take a break. I can't focus at the moment, and we're watching Charlie and the chocolate factory.)

At some point, I changed into a dry shirt....

After Tatooine Traders (maybe?), it was almost time for A Galaxy Far Far Away, since DH's #1 request was Star Wars photos. So we got a spot near the front (a ~8 year old girl basically climbed over the stroller and stood right in front of DS. Hey, if you're gonna block one kid's view, block the baby's view. Another adult chided her and she shifted so she wasn't blocking anyone's view.) It started, and I took video of DS/DD's response to the intro while I kept DD from suffocating in the girl's poncho.
IMG_20160913_173143757_TOP_zpsux8jienz.jpg

Uh.... Hmm... Notice that poncho billowing? About 90 seconds later, they stopped the show for inclement weather. Kids in ponchos, stroller under the cover, just in time... It started pouring. We started heading back towards Mama Melrose's. We got there over half an hour early for our reservation, so my mom and kids waited in the shop while I checked in. We got seated fairly quickly despite being so early. My mom had the spaghetti and meatballs, DS got the salmon, and I got the saltimbocca (OMNOMNOMNOM). Food came (we resorted to bubbles again - DD doesn't handle storms well), and DS wanted nothing to do with his. DD wolfed it down (salmon and broccoli? Perfection in her book.) Grandma's meal was three times as much as she could eat, so she was happy to share. She got him over his "but it's not MINE" by pretending the noodles were octopus tentacles. Suddenly, he was into it. "That's not an octopus, it's a squid! It's gonna eat Dory!" "Oh no! You have to save her!" OMNOMNOMNOMNOM.

Dinner done, we tried to head out. Holy crap, this is some storm. "Mom, I'll be right back." I run across the street, since my mom gave me the poncho after I got into a dry shirt, and I get her a poncho. She forgot to put the raincover on the stroller, so I dump out the rain and get the cover ready. Bundle the poncho'd kids in, put the raincover on, and make a mad dash for the front of the park. We are completely soaked before we get halfway to the front. My skirt, which was a little big and had been slipping all day, has to be held up at the waist due to the added weight and I have to stop every few minutes to squeeze it out. Towards the front, the water is ankle deep, so I take advantage and splash in some puddles while my mom is ahead of me. Get out of the park...

And we remember we'd made a comment about leaving when we had enough energy to make the hike back.

No way we can manage the trams, as DD is asleep, so we just make a run for it. The tram goes by, and people hoot and yell at the crazy people running with a double stroller and full skirt in the driving rain - so hard it stings. Get the kids in the car (DD wailing), shove the stroller in, hop in the car, I look up the weather now that I'm not worried about water damage to my phone... Tropical Storm Julia randomly popped up over land, making it the first tropical storm to form over Floridian mainland.

When I walk into the villa, pushing the double stroller and hitching my skirt back up, I see a bin of complimentary towels in the entryway. I start giggling. I walk all the way in, and the concierge makes eye contact with me (looking somewhat amused by my sodden state). She asks how I am - I am preoccupied with both that it's raining so hard that they set out towels and how ineffectual a towel would be for me at that precise moment - and I burst out laughing. I can't stop. Another cast member comes out. "What's going on?" "I have no idea. But she's laughing." I continue on to the elevator still laughing my head off. "Well, I suppose that's... good then?" I nod, still laughing so hard there are tears.

As soon as the door to my room started to swing shut, my skirt fell off. And the laughter resumed.

It's been a while.
Wednesday was our scheduled rest day, and Grandma's Surprise Day. Kids wake up bright and early, get dressed, my daughter has a tangerine and some yogurt, my son has an apple, waves to the monorail a few times, then lays down in my lap (nice warm snuggles) and falls asleep

IMG_20160914_114532029_zps8qaj1dts.jpg

What?

This kid NEVER naps. This was his 4th nap since he was on a newborn schedule. Our breakfast reservation is at 9:45. We let him sleep as long as we can (til 9:20.)

Grandma surprise #1: A Supercalifragilistic Breakfast!

So this breakfast buffet is pretty wonderful. Tigger is great, Winnie is sweet (DD just wanted to pet him), Alice is fantastic. DS was pretty reticent about everything. Mary fixed his collar.

The general staff was great, too. Talked DS into at least a neutral mood.

Well, my mom and I liked the buffet, DD liked the POG juice. DS just wanted to go watch the monorail. I kiss DS's head, and it's warm. Uh-oh.

Grandma Surprise #2: Grandma's first massage and wrap. We walk over to Senses (me trying not to argue with my mom, because she keeps trying to go in the opposite direction, despite knowing she's going to the spa. "Let's go look at the lake!" "Mom, your appointment is in 15 minutes." "Oh." We start in the right direction. "Let's ride on the elevator!" "No, mom, your appointment is in 12 minutes.") I get her settled in and take the kids back to the room. Both kids nap basically until Grandma gets back. They were taking this rest day thing seriously. After 45 minutes of napping, though, DS feels nice and cool again.

Grandma Surprise #3: High Tea! This goes marvelously. The kids get apple juice instead of chocolate milk. I got the strawberries and cream - don't remember what my mom got. DS loves the cream puff swan, and DD loved the fruit. We all got full, to the point that we brought some back to our room.

Next, Grandma wants to ride the monorail and look around the monorail resorts. DS is doing better, so OK. I get a caricature of the kids done at the Contemporary.

DD and DS started melting down as soon as we got to the Poly. So after 2 minutes in the lobby, we headed back to the monorail and our room. DS was warm again, and laid down to watch TV and fell asleep. We had planned to go to Disney Springs as soon as DD woke up. There was a 30th anniversary showing of Labyrinth, a movie my mom and I ADORE, that I'd gotten tickets for a few weeks prior. But mommyhood prevails, and I stayed back with the kids. Ordered room service, trying to keep the cost down. DS is feeling hot enough that I want to take his temp to see if he needed some tylenol. So I call the concierge to see if there is any way to get a thermometer. "No, but let me call the paramedics..." Noooooooo! Food came, DS wouldn't eat any of the soup, so I just put him in the bath, then get him into his PJs. My mom calls. I somehow managed to get the wrong tickets - for the Sunday showing instead of the Wednesday showing. DD ate all of the salmon, and I accidentally spilled the entire bowl of soup when trying to heat it up to a temp I'd like. Around this time, DD gets fussy, cuddles up in my lap, and immediately goes to sleep while my son moans that he want popsicles, his cat, and Daddy. My son is sick (and it was only the third time he was ever sick), I'm hungry and soaked with chicken broth, my mom missed her only chance to see Labyrinth in theaters because of me, and I wasted the money on the tickets (so I feel like I let down DH)... I started bawling.

Basically as soon as I was able to set DD down...

My mom got back with half a sandwich from Earl of Sandwich (the meal was too much for her), vouchers for a movie at any AMC theater, and children's tylenol. I started sniffling again. Ate my mom's leftovers, took a shower, my son woke up long enough for some tylenol, and I went to bed wantng nothing other than for my son to feel better by morning.

Just caught up, loving all your character interactions! Can't wait to read more!

Checked in to the villas. The lobby was so much nicer than the photos suggested. SO pretty. Then our room... Remember how excited my son was about seeing a monorail?

Oooooh, yeah! Talk about a great start to Disney magic!

That is an amazing view of the Monorail; is that the view from your balcony? Fantastic action shot; even though you cannot see his face, I can certainly tell how excited he must have been!
