I just paid the balance of our room if the room goes lower than what we paid for it would I get credit since I paid it off already.

If you got a package, then no.

If you got room only, you would have to cancel your room and they would give you a refund. Then you would rebook the entire thing and put down a deposit.

It isn't an easy process when you pay it all off in advance.

You can give it a try and ask them to connect you to accounting and see if they will do it. I have had success with that a long time ago, but that was only dealing with a deposit that I didn't want cancelled.

I just modify my rate if price goes down and I call to change to that rate
I book room only

I have never cancelled and rebooked it

Maybe I am talking about something different than what damo is

I guess I will keep checking but I will leave it alone. As long as my room is paid off I guess that's what matters

You've had better luck than I have, then. Calling to get a rate changed has been an issue for me because they refund and recharge. It's an issue because, being Canadian, there is an exchange rate involved and when they cancel the initial deposit and charge a new one there is usually some sort of exchange difference that happens or credit card exchange fees that makes it end up costing extra money to do the switch. I have had some success with asking to be switched to accounting and they have done the old deposit/new deposit difference instead of having it cancelled and recharged.

Maybe they are better at it now than the times that I have had it done.

Gee damo that is awful!

At times I have booked at rack rate if the smsm/AP rate has not come in yet

When the smsm or AP rates are released, I modify my rate to the discount one

The only thing that is involved is the deposit I paid, is kept on the booked reservation

That is not an issue for me to having paid a higher deposit as I'm only paying more up front and have a bit less to pay over all

My priority is to lock in my dates for the October stay

Sounds like this practice is only good for those in the States

I can see why those outside of this country, modifying a rate is not a good thing

Llucky.

They wouldn't let me do that with my recent flurry of reservations and cancellations this summer. Each one had to be refunded and recharged.

When I called to change rooms I didn't have to cancel they said as long as it's at the same hotel they can take the deposit and add it to the new room. But if I was switching hotels then I would have to cancel so all was good was just switching rooms.

Yes that is the key!

All my posts were in reference for staying at the same hotel

Maybe that will help when reading my imput

Same experience here

as long as it's the same hotel, I never had to cancel to adjust the rate

for those who had to cancel when keeping the same hotel, it's probably down to :
- does the TM over the phone even know they can adjust the rate without a cancel/rebook
- and if they know of the procedure, are they willing to go through the trouble

if you had to cancel when switching hotels, that's the way it's done. A booking can't be transferred over to another hotel.

@OP : if you've already paid more than the value of your adjusted rate, any *remaining* money will be credited towards your incidentals/room charge
if there is still money left when you check out, it will be refunded to the original method of payment
