DD's magical magic cruise in the med

since i discussed the possibility of this cruise on this board earlier in the year, i thought you might be interested to know how it went....

DD and DSIL were on the september 3 sailing of the Disney Magic in the med.

This was DD's return to DCL after a 12 year hiatus..
And was DSIL's very first DCL cruise..

DD and DSIL have been on 3 RCCL cruises together since marrying 5 years ago.

so what did they think of their cruise on the Disney Magic?

To quote them, "it was perfect, magical, pixie-dust galore, non-stop fun"

although they still love RCCL, DCL has become their favorite cruise line.
DD has been trying to put her finger on what it was that made it just so perfect and is at a loss.
But it was perfect and they can't wait to cruise DCL again!!

The only thing they would like to see added? The RCCL soft drink package which allows you to get a soft drink at every bar, rather than having to go to the drink station way up on deck (and carry a drink around with you on the ship). On RCCL, every bar you go into, you can order a soft drink as part of the drink package. DD would prefer that set up.

But that was her one and only suggestion for change.

Everything else was beyond perfect, meeting and exceeding their expectations!!

I guess the soft drinks thing is the difference between it being free and having to pay for it. Personally, I will stick with the free soda and the 'slight' inconvenience of having to get it from Deck 9/10

the thing is, when you go into a bar for an activity, all the drinkers order alcohol of some kind or another..
but the non-drinkers either have to 'waste' their money on buying a soft drink that they could go way up on deck to get for free..

obviously it's a silly thing...since probably if you pay for it at the bar, the cost might come out the same as in a drink package..
but it's the idea of it...
when i was on the allure, every single time i was in a bar, i ordered a diet coke...
i wouldn't have had i not had the drink package...and sitting with that coke in the bar really added something to my cruise..
i would like to have that on disney too..

as an analogy - we always take the dining plan at WDW - whether it's free or we have to pay for it..
when we pay for it, there is no way it's a good deal for us...
we're vegetarians - so the cost out of pocket is MUCH cheaper than doing the dining plan..
yet i still buy the dining plan...why? because having to pay $5 for a snack that should cost $1 drives me up the wall.....but spending a credit on it doesn't bother me at all....so to preserve my sanity, i take the dining plan...

not sure i explained that well...but it's the same thing with the soft drink package...

but that's a super minor quibble with DCL..

DD and i were talking about it again yesterday...
that after her successful cruise on DCL we realize that DCL in the med/europe will allow us to get our disney fix during the years we don't go to WDW..

WDW is really expensive for us now together with the very high cost of getting to the US.

so during the years we can't make it to WDW, we now have a disney fix alternative...which can only be a good thing for us :)

Glad your DD and her DH had a fab time! We don't really spend a lot of time in the bars so the added cost of a drink there doesn't really add up to much over the course of the cruise. But, I can understand that it would be handy for some.
A bit of Disney around the med with the short and cheap flight from the UK is a great alternative isn't it!
Now, my one wish is that Magic and Wonder do a switch in a couple of years and Wonder does the med cruises. I would be on that in a heartbeat!!

Claire :)

Glad they had a fantastic time! I know we'll have to go with a different line soon because we want to do a Northern Lights cruise and so far it looks like it will be P&O. I know it's silly of me but I just can't imagine having the same level of enthusiasm for sailing one of their ships as I can for a DCL one. :(

I feel the same, always used to take a couple of drinks down with us every time we left deck 9 so we always had a ready supply in the fridge.

Dp your DD and DSIL travel with children in tow, or was it an adults only trip? It's something DH and I have talked about trying, but he's a bit wary and worries it won't be adult friendly enough!

BudgieMama, we've now done more cruises without children than with! You'll see lots of couples and adult only groups on the ship, last month we spent 14 nights on board and still could have stayed longer.
