I love credit cards so much!

That's excellent - I'm glad it worked out.

Now that you're approved for the CSR, are there any other benefits to CPC?

Yes there are. No ATM fees out of the country if for some reason you need to withdraw cash. A lot of personalized service. Access to higher bonus on the credit cards. Family members all can get the same perks too. Free safety deposit box. Lots of other perks. We are going to try them out for 6 months and get through two quarters of statements on investments and see how it goes compared to our previous firm.

Congrats calypso! now work those points! ;)

Thanks! I've already got plans for them!

Quick CSR question:

Does the annual fee count towards the $4000 spend requirement? I noticed in my card member terms and conditions, the annual fee IS subject to interest, so wondering if it counts as a "purchase" as well.

Thought someone here may find this useful... I made a payment of $300 to Vacation Strategy for our May 2017 Wyndham Bonnet Creek reservation, and it counted as travel for the CSR. I received a $300 travel credit back right away, and I get to do it again in January!

If anyone is interested in finding a bank account that does this without CPC(requirements are insane), look int Charles Swab Checking account.

Anyone using the Chase IHG card? I signed up for IHG rewards with an email and birthday hoping to score a better offer than currently out there. Looking to build some points for a trip a couple years out at an Intercontinental hotel.

We have it but don't put any spend on it. We picked it up for the annual night at any property and are planning to use it for our 2020 plans to go to Bora Bora and stay in overwater bungalows. Chase UR points transfer to IHG so you could accumulate points much faster with a Freedom and/or Freedom Unlimited combined with a CSP, CSR or Ink+ than you would the IHG card alone.

You use the IHG card for groceries and gas at 2pt/$, Freedom for 5x on bonus categories, CSP or CSR for travel categories or Ink+ for 5x cable, internet phone and office supply stores which sell gift cards to other merchants and to transfer direct to IHG or use the points/cash trick explained here by MMS http://millionmilesecrets.com/2014/08/17/save-chase-points-when-booking-ihg-hotels/

We've had this card for over 20 years. It was our only card for a long time, before we ever heard of strategically opening new cards. My husband travels for business and often stays at Holiday Inns (he pays, company reimburses him). Keep an eye on the emails IHG sends you. They often offer bonus points for bookings and sometimes bonus spend categories.

nvm, its all 65k with $50 credit. 80k is so far the max seen.

is there a way to transfer ihg points to ur points?

So, I got the CSR card, and I'd like to get one for my dh also before too long so we can double up on the $300 travel credit for each year. BUT spending 4k in 3 mos for one of us is hard, much less both at the same time. Are there still any ways to manufacture spend? I have never done it but did read about it here on a thread earlier this year. I just remember reading that some of the ways were being shut down. Are there still methods working, and if so, could someone link me a website or give me some ideas?

@disneedee I am wondering the same on the ihg points. My dh opened one in 2015, got 70k points and then closed it. Maybe we should have kept it open for the free night! Anyways, we have all these points but I think they might be more useful outside of ihg. We just don't stay in those chains a lot. When we opened the card, we had a trip planned and would have stayed in a HIE but we changed our trip. So, now we have all these points...

Unfortunately, no.

Yup. Do a google search for Frequent Miler Blue Bird manufactured spend. Most of it has been updated. Both you and DH open up BB accounts.

The free night outweighs the fee which is why we are keeping it. We don't stay at IHG either but will use it in planning aspirational property getaways like the one in Bora Bora. Why not re-apply down the line and open up the card again which you can if it has been 2 years since you got the bonus. IHG doesn't fall under the 5/24 rule yet so get your other Chase cards first.

Thank you for the idea on MS!

So, only dh had the ihg, which means I can still get it, right? WHy does it not count for the 5/24 rule? Since you clarified about the 5/24 rule for me...I truly thought it was the number of cards you had total lol...we do have a couple more each we can open. He may actually only have 1 let and I want to get him the CSR. Off to read up on MS :)

Also, @calypso726 , if you do not use that free night from igh every year, can you roll it? Just curious about that since your Bora Bora trip is a few years out. If we can't roll it, we'd lost it most years unless we just went to a hotel in our town. And as a family of 6, it can be hard to find standard hotels that fit us.

You're welcome. Let me clarify. You can get a card from Chase and get the bonus again on that card if it has been two years since you got the bonus. DH applied for a British Airways card for 100k miles about 4 years ago. He canceled the card. Last year there was another 100k offer on the BA card so he applied for it and got it again for the bonus.

There are certain Chase cards that will result in a denial regardless of income, credit score or relationship with Chase if you have opened 5 or more new credit cards from any bank within the previous 24 months. These cards are all of the UR earning cards, United cards, Southwest cards, Marriott personal card and the Slate card. If you apply for any of the aforementioned cards and have opened up 5 or more new credit cards over the last 2 years you will likely be denied. The refers to new applications, not total cards owned. I have well over 20 credit cards. If I would have waited 11 months to apply for the CSR that would have put me at 4 new cards over the previous 24 months (11 months from now) I would have been approved with no problem and without closing any of my cards.

The other Chase co branded cards are not under the 5/24 rule. I applied for the IHG and was approved earlier this year. That was my 10th new credit card over the last 24 months at that time.

Unfortunately, no. It's a use it or lose it. Worst case scenario we can always use it for a weekend in the WDW area for a weekend and save some DVC points. We already do that with the Marriott card.

Can someone check my understanding of transferring UR points? I understand (I think) that I want to transfer points from the Freedom and the Ink+ to either the CSP or CSR, and then transfer to a partner airline or book through the UR page. Does it matter whether the points are transferred to the CSP or CSR?

Yes. If you are transferring directly to the airline then it doesn't matter if you use CSP or CSR. If you are using points to book through the Chase portal then transfer to CSR and book through that account.

Thanks - just figured out that the points are worth 1.25 through CSP and 1.5 through CSR (another reason to convert the CSP to a Freedom).

Daughter needs a last-minute plane ticket and the price through UR is the same as through the airlines directly. The points through the airlines are much more than through UR (I am assuming UR points transfer to Delta 1:1). AT the moment, it is looking like booking through UR and paying with points is the best option.

ETA: The cost through Delta and UR is $318. 32,500 skymiles or 21,100 UR points.

You're welcome. No UR points do not transfer directly to Delta Sky miles. You would have to transfer them to Korean in order to book a flight with Korean miles on Delta. You can pay for a Delta flight with UR points but that is not the same as a transfer.

Thanks - how do you ever keep all of this straight? It seems odd that I can book a Delta flight through the UR website but Delta is not a partner. Out of curiosity, I looked to see how many Korean air miles her flight would be, but I discovered that at least one of the airports (arrival or departure) must be an airport that Korean Air services. So no booking through Korean Air for this flight.
