First RCL cruise - try specialty restaurants? Or stick to MDRs?

Anyone splurge and Palo and regret it? Seems mostly like people not wanting the added expense. Its for a 10th anniversary dinner.

For a special dinner like your anniversary, I would book a specialty restaurant in a heartbeat. If for no other reason than to get a two-top and have it be just the two of you.

I am surprised to see so many positive reviews of the Main Dining Room. We were on the Allure of the Seas in July and found that the quality had declined sharply from our previous cruises. Our two nights at the Specialty Restaurants were significantly better, both in quality of food and quality of service. We have a cruise booked in 2017 and will be dining exclusively at the Specialty Restaurants.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Dining really is so subjective, isn't it?

I'm sure my family would all really enjoy the specialties. But I took that money and redirected it to a nicer hotel/room for our Universal Orlando half-week following the cruise. We'll all be in one room for that; I couldn't afford two at Christmas prices. I decided a 30% bigger room with two sinks was more important to our overall vacation than specialty dining on the ship.

Honestly, it's really hard to complain when taking a cruise and doing Universal over Christmas break. . .we are very blessed!::yes:::santa:

I went on my first RCL cruise on the Anthem earlier this year. As much as I thought the MDR where okay I really enjoyed the specialty restaurants on board the ship. I tried them all the of them with the exception of the Japanese restaurant. My absolute favorite meal was Jamie's Italian and a close second was the Chef's Table. I also appreciated the presentation and uniqueness of Wonderland. I would highly recommend that you try at least one of the specialty restaurants.
