DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Well, Canada vs Russia, end of the 2nd it's tied 2-2 (in case anyone was wondering). Hopefully the 3rd goes our way.

Evening boys, had a bit of Disney recreation today, had the Outdoor Projector in the garden with the Incredibles, as this month is the only real opportunity that it's dark enough early and still quite warm. Kids now in bed and relaxing with a Rebel IPA.
Sounds like fun. I like the idea of an outdoor movie. I guess I need a projector first...

Hey gents,
New on the Disboards but been lurking on the facebook group for a while. Glad to make some connections!
I need a disdad number!
Welcome to the boards!

Next year is a lot of day trips and probably Algonquin Park and definitely Ottawa.
I'd like to get to Ottawa again. I haven't been since I was very young.

This and so many other changes pilling up actually has me asking why am I going in December and March? They are doing nothing but cutting costs and raising prices with the cost cutting reducing services. No nighttime parade at MK, no firework schedules listed yet for our December trip, park hour cutbacks, etc. it's Saturday and we still love DaWorld so off my soapbox I shall go

I start to think like that when I'm home, but then I get there and realize this is still pretty great. I think on one of the podcasts that I listen to they talk about Disney's business is built on nostalgia and creating future nostalgia. While we had a good time at universal and absolutely love Discovery cove, Disney just has nostalgia in spades for our family. Sometimes it seems like they rest on that too much.
As for the FB stuff, I read all the posts and was disappointed. It is more convenient for posting, but I've been here since thread 2 and plan to keep on chugging along until Randall locks the door and turns out the light.
I was dissapointed in all the facebook stuff. I was wondering if we are going to wind up with a blow up like this every couple of years. It seems like it's driven a bunch of us back to the beginning.

Two years in a row burned the bank pretty good, and the last trip was certainly long enough, 16 nights in Florida, 14 in Disney. Next year is a lot of day trips and probably Algonquin Park and definitely Ottawa. Already got a huge 2018 trip planned :rolleyes1

That sounds like a pretty awesome trip. I'd love to be able to take that much time off in a row. The longest trip we've ever taken to the world of 5 or 6 days and most of our trips are in the 3-4 day range. I bet having that much time there really changes the way you tour and lets you really dive deep into stuff.

Morning Guys,

A nice Fall Sunday morning up here, sunny but cool. Head cold is still hanging on but I went for the big gun yesterday, Buckley's Cold Medicine. It might taste like a pine tree but it work! Couple more doses today and I should be good for soccer tonight.

We are out of DVC points for a trip this summer, so it might be a year away from Disney for us as well. As for the FB stuff, I read all the posts and was disappointed. That ain't going to happen...

I heard Randall can't remember where he put the key.

IT was a nice win over the Russians last night. Crosby has been pretty dominant in this tournament.

Headed up Ottawa for a day trip in October; love going up there, it is a beautiful city.

Our typical trip has been around 7 days but we have had two trips of ten days. I would live to take about 2 or 3 weeks and drive down, visiting some other places along the way.

We only do every other year usually, so we use that to justify the big trips. The longer trips allow us to place off days too offset the pure exhaustion.

I just did mine as well...
$800 here...but I got an oil change, so that balance it out I guess... :(

That's like five trips up to the buffet and offsetting it with a diet coke.

Welcome mate. It got a bit silly over there for a couple of days, hopefully everyone's got their knickers out of a twist.

Wow. That's a proper vacation. Hat tip.

Since we are in NC there aren't that many interesting places to see between here and WDW.

DW picked up the 25th anniversary dvd for Beauty and the Beast. I'm enjoying the extra's and it's really making me look forward to the live action version.

My last three trips were 16-18 days, but not all at Disney. I usually take the first week and rent a house off site. We'll do our trip to "the dark side" and I'll let DW & oldest DD get their shopping fix. We then go to WDW for about 8 days. I like it that way because we don't go commando style (DD16 is type 1 diabetic, so running around in the heat is not good for blood sugar). We plan in a couple half days to sleep in and relax at the resort. I would love to drive down someday, I would get to see the whole east coast that way. But a round trip drive would add another week to the trip, so it probably won't happen.

Tastes like a pine tree...you're being too kind!

Yep, time to bring on Team Europe in the final!

Why thank you sir..

Yup... just bought 4 new tires as well, and a dishwasher today... Ugggh...

I'm lucky, our dishwasher is a bit slower, but still functional. As long as I don't need traded in for a newer model...

Yeah, we (in other words, DW) drive hard and only have one overnight stay, usually in SC but we don't have quite as far to go. Next trip we are finally going to allow for two days to see the Dark Side. Right now the plan is drive in 2018 and fly for the 2020 trip, since it will be a pull from school trip in October for our Twentieth Anniversary.

No more commando trips for us, the diabetes is a factor, but so is age. I'm no spring turkey. Each trip we try and add a little more down time.

Funniest thing I noticed was that despite the increased down time, the television time was a whopping 5 minutes in total the whole trip, and that was to check out the WDW today stuff. ( and during breakfast at Cocoa Beach at their dining room I caught whichever news station was in for em weather updates, we had some exciting weather)

A glorious Sunday here. I hope you all had a great a day as I did.

.

Glad to see more of you back. Defending this place against the Canadians and their overuse of U and re is challengureing.

Hopefully that big contract you signed for soccer allows a missed game for sick time. :lmao:

Yep, we are pretty strict. No spirits until they are at least 10.

Got to have standards. Whatever they are.

!

We are hoping to get a 14 day vacation this summer or next. A week at WDW followed by a week at the beach.

We still do commando park days, just not consecutive days. We got to get every cent out of those park tickets we purchased. I don't so well with downtown, so will play tennis each day or so something. I can kill some major time watching TV.

Just got back from Chicago and found about Jose Fernandez. Never mind the effects of his death on the Marlins pitching staff, this is a devastating blow to Miami. Much more than a young, great pitcher he had an absolute joy for the game and loved this city. The city loved him back. Extraordinary news, very sad.
