Candlelight Processional

We've decided to attend the MVMCP on 12/18 and then spend 12/19 at Epcot. We want to see the candlelight processional, but I really don't want to shell out the extra cash for a dining package. If we don't do a dining package, what are our chances of getting a seat in the theatre? Thanks in advance!

Depends on who the narrator is, which show you go to. But the closer to Christmas you get, the more crowded it gets.
You might find that you have to get in the standby line really early...possibly hours early.
You can always try to stand along the walkway behind the theater, or grab something to eat at Liberty Inn in the American pavilion and then sit and listen to CP.

12/19 the narrator is Joe Morton, who is on Scandal. With the show being so popular and the date being so close to Christmas, I would do the dining package. A lot of restaurants have a lunch option, which is less expensive.

One year over Thanksgiving week, we were able to just walk up as it was starting. It was the last show of the evening, and our seats were in the back, of course, but we had seats and were able to watch it!

Some restaurants are also doing a breakfast pkg.

One thing in your favor is it's a Monday night. Weekends bring in a lot of locals.

Chiming in, I'm hoping to see it on my trip on Thursday, December 1st. The speaker is Neil Patrick Harris. Do we think it will be packed because of his popularity or not so much since he seems to be doing it yearly?

It will be packed, NPH is a huge draw. I would suggest the dining package or risk not even getting in the theater.

With NPH, or Whoopi, not having a dining pkg will pretty much assure you that you won't get into the theater. When they are narrating, the lines at the back of the theater, along the public walkway, are at least three people deep!!! It's crazy. I was there one night that the weather was abysmal...raining, chilly. And the crowds were still there for NPH!!! It was crazy!!

I do candlelight processional every year cause my kids sing in the choir from their High School. I have never done the dinning package cause it's way out of my price range. That being said I am a local and just go to Epcot for that so I line up early. When my son sang in the choir with NPH as a narrator I was at the rope for World Showcase (France side) by 11am, when they opened it I walked as fast as I could and there was already 2 people in front of me.

For him you for sure need the package.

Sure, if you want to wait in a line for four hours! But for those who are visiting WDW, not locals, that would be a huge chunk of time out of their day.
Most guests want to eat a meal. So, why not buy the CP dining pkg? Yes, it's a bit more expensive than paying for the same meal without the show, but it's not a deal breaker. Especially if you book either breakfast or lunch pkgs.

Sorry to butt in but I've got a dining package for CP on a NPH night. My ADR is for Akershus at 2.50pm for the 8.15 CP. Does that mean I need to start queuing as soon as I'm finished eating or can I get in the dining package line at 6.30ish?

I often do the 8:15 show. we ususlly get to the line around 7:30, it's back to Japan by that time! But we've always been able to get seats we like. Not to mention the number of guests behind us in the line was huge! I would suggest getting to the line no later than 7:15. They don't allow you in until about 15-20 mins before the start.

That's why I said that I'm a local and only do the candlelight processional cause my kids are in it and don't mind waiting. Obviously someone visiting will have other priorities. All I'm saying is that you don't NEED to have a package to watch it, you just have to wait in line longer
