A few Ohana questions...

hello fellow disers!
I have never been able to eat at Ohana but for our next trip I would like too. However my trip companions need some convincing! My husband and brother are going with me and they are a little concerned with the atmosphere of the restaurant. Do people come around and sing at your table? What's the entertainment like there? Are the games the kids play disruptive? Do they have you were leis? I can pretty much handle anything but they get kinda awkward about things.

Then with the food my husband is worried he is not gonna like the food because he doesn't really like sweet sauces. What are your experiences with it? Any somewhat picky eaters enjoy the food here?

Thanks in advance

Yes, there is singing at (or near) the tables. Yes, there are kids games like hula hoop or coconut racing that may be disruptive. You should expect a meal at 'Ohana to be a bit noisy because of all this activity. If that's an issue, I'd suggest you look into Kona instead.

We've been to 'ohana several times. Never once had anyone come to our table and sing (we've heard the singing, but would have had to venture into another area of the restaurant to see it). Never been offered leis. We've also never been seated in an area near the kids activities (even though we have kids). I don't think 'ohana is any more hectic or noisy than most other WDW restaurants.

They have a lady that comes in every so often that will explain some Hawaiian heritage and also plays a ukulele and sings. She does walk around but you may never see her depending on where she is. She did come and call my little boy handsome. She doesn't stay in one place too long. She takes breaks and will come out again later. They will do a hula dance lesson for kids or a coconut race but it is usually held in one part of the restaurant. It could be a little disruptive but I guess we didn't mind because our kids took part in it. I think the atmosphere is fun and relaxing. If you want a super quiet dinner, I wouldn't recommend it.

We don't necessarily need it to be quite they just don't like a lot of antics. I guess is how I would describe it. My husband especially. Like for example there is no way we would do 50s prime time.

No antics. You can choose whether or not to participate in the activities. You might want to request to be seated away from where they will do the coconut races, since there are usually a few wayward coconuts.

The evening we went a gentleman was walking around playing the ukelele and singing. He did stop by the tables in our area but was not at all obtrusive. He had a very nice voice and we enjoyed it. Our daughter liked doing the coconut races (only lasts a couple of minutes) and they did have people celebrating anniversaries go up to do something but they definitely didn't force things on anyone. We also shy away from antics like 50's & WCC but didn't find any of that at 'Ohana.

I was going to say essentially the same as Klinger. There is entertainment at Ohana, but it's not in-your-face antics like at WCC or 50's.

The ukulele player serenaded my baby niece last spring. The photos are priceless! Baby was mesmerized. :)

No one at Disney ever forces you do anything. :) I am not much of a joiner but have always enjoyed the entertainment at 'Ohana. Watching kids have fun and adults joining in (as long as it is not me) makes 'Ohana a fun dinner. And the bread pudding for dessert makes it all worth while.

Just ask for a 'quiet' table. You may wait a bit longer, but you should be out of the coconut race space. I've never had a problem getting an out of the way table. The singers will just wander around and leave you alone if you don't look interested in them. (The woman may make you want to shove a fork in your ear though.. just a warning.. lol) Luckily, they won't be around for your entire dinner.

As for the sauce thing, the chicken and steak both have varying degrees of sauce on them, but neither are particularly sweet. They do bring 2 different sauces to your table - a peanut sauce and a sweet and sour sauce. Both are okay, but I don't tend to use either one except on the shrimp.

.

I'll second that! lol It's shocking how pitchy she sings. My best friend and I are both singers and we sit there looking at each other the whole time wondering how it is that Disney can't find someone that's not tone deaf for the job. She's been there 20 years or more.

DH and I ate there last Sunday night, had a 6:55 pm reservation and we had a very relaxing dinner. They had a guy with a ukulele and he just walked around and played his music. I didn't notice him stopping at any tables and about halfway through the dinner he asked all the kids if they wanted to learn a Hula dance. It lasted 5 mins and they all got a Lei. Because we were celebrating DH 's bday, he also got a Lei but from our server at the end of the dinner.

As far as the sauces, they serve 2 on the side. I didn't think any of the proteins were exceptionally sweet, just tasty. I do love the noodles and the bread pudding, yum!

Y'all enjoy!
