Meeting ECV Company at Resort

So I called both Disney and Walker, and not surprisingly I got 2 different answers. According to Disney, If my ECV breaks down, I have to go to guest relations so that they'll give Walker permission to enter the park. Walker says they can come right in. I think I'll trust that ECV people have Annual Passes.

Technically Disney's answer is correct. If Walker is indeed using annual passes to get into the parks then it is possible that person could have their Annual pass revoked if caught. The terms and conditions of the APs specifically call out using them for work or business. I am sure Disney doesn't really keep track of it but you could end up with a headache if they do intend to start enforcing the rules.

I think the other difference is the providers can actually do work on the ECV in the park while non-providers must removed the ECV from the park before being able to work on it.

I thought provider vs non-provider wasn't about paying to be on the list but rather signing a contract saying you will abide by Disney's rules on ECVs the big one being top out speed since some off site locations were advertising crazy top speeds at one point.

Actually, those two answers make perfect sense when you think about it. Disney is not going to know if the employees at Walker have an AP. As such, it makes sense that their answer would be to go to Guest Relations and that they would have to get special permission to enter the park since, to DISNEY, they wouldn't be known to have a ticket. However, I bet Walker employees do have APs (or at least a number of them) so they wouldn't have to worry about it and could just enter on that.
except that APs are not to be used for commercial or business purposes

JMO, but I believe Disney's wording regarding the use of an AP is they don't want someone selling, advertising (i.e. handing out flyers), or providing a "service" in the park, etc...stuff such as that. I believe if you are just switching ECVs, they are not categorizing that as "conducting business". You each get off of an ECV and each get on the other ECV. They clearly don't want the vendor servicing it in the park. But truthfully, there are times it would behoove them to allow equipment exchanges as then the guest doesn't need any assistance from Disney or its CMs. Restricting even so much as an equipment exchange does not reflect well on Disney by basically leaving a guest stranded. This isn't compatible with the four keys that they preach to the CMs. And it wouldn't be good customer service to ignore a guest's request for help. Say a solo traveler has equipment issues. They are going to tell them to push their equipment to the front of the park themselves?? No, I don't believe Disney will handle it this way.
Just my honest opinion on what they mean....

How does ECV drop off work if you are staying at Fort Wilderness? Do they just leave it at check-in and your drive it to your site?

We just arrived at Ft Wilderness Cabins a few hours ago. You pick up/drop off your ECV at the Outpost; they are parked out by Airline Check-in just to the right of the front doors (and handy-dandy next to the ramp!)

I'm so glad to hear that. They already made "brownie points" with me. Their first morning drop off is 8:00-9:00. When I mentioned that I hoped it was close to 8:00 since we wanted to go to breakfast, she offered to do a "courtesy drop-off" the night before and we wouldn't have to pay extra. So if you see someone on a scooter driving over to Epcot from BCV in mid-October for breakfast at France (can't wait for that creme brûlée) that's me!
I'll be there in mid-october also, but next door at BW...on my Walker scooter, too!

Watch for one more thing though. What happens when it is not a Disney preferred provider and you break down in the park. I don't think they can come in and get the scooter. This happened to me and I could not 'walk the scooter ' to the gate. It took hours to get a resolution involving my poor wife manually wheeling it. If this policy has changed I hope so.
Walker does. I had a bad charger last year. My battery died mid-afternoon at HS and they brought me a new scooter. Since I thought it was a bad battery and i had left the charger in the room I didn't take the new charger he brought. The next afternoon, died at Animal Kingdom. This time I kept the charger and didn't have any troubles the rest of the week.

Good to know! Walker sound good.
