News Round Up 2016

I don't get this "Let's at least save a float or two". These floats are NOT the original floats from 1975 - they've been changed out over the years.

Actually, I think technically this parade is the 1972 one from Disneyland. The original WDW floats are long gone. But your point is still valid.

Yes that is correct this is the Disneyland parade. The WDW Main Street parade is long gone.

Wasn't the 1972 parade 2D and then the floats we see today are apart of the 3D parade that debuted in 1975(well most of them)

Richest man in China predicts Disneyland Shanghai will fail within next 20 years. Also, announces plans for building a competing theme park.

This story is so fascinating. I'm really curious to see the changes Disney presence in China has culturally as the years go on. That seems to be Wanda's main beef - that Disney is a foreign presence, specifically an American one. I would argue that Disney is a uniquely American phenomenon, and Walt was quintessentially American in so many ways. Wanda's objection to this presence in China seems borderline cuckoo, and his strategy of flooding the market to devalue Disney belies his true motivation - to destroy Disney's success seems more important than creating his own. Accordingly to the article Shanghai is doing very well, and if the Chinese can really connect with Disney the way so many others have I don't think Wanda really has a chance - at least this is my hope. Counterfeit, copy-cat parks built out of spite will not stand up to Disney quality. I find this man rather distasteful.

So what do they normally do during a short refurb, in this case 2 weeks? Fix things up that weren't working correctly, clean, etc?

Install a Goofy movie video, and change the soundtrack. Install new signs. Add a Goofy and Max meet and greet. Redo the exit gift shop.

Actually thinking about it, it'll likely only be closed for a week and then do soft openings.

:D

I just got back from WDW a few days ago. It seems that in the mornings in the MK they have been keeping the crane behind the castle so that it isn't visible from the middle of Main St. I'm not sure if they're doing this every day or if I just got lucky. In any case, if you want some pictures without the crane I suggest you get to the park early.

Also to add onto this you could get a photo later closer to the fireworks as the crane has to go down before celebrate the magic and wishes start.

When will they bulldoze for Toy Story Land?? I thought it was scheduled to be completed in 2018? They sure do move slowly!

Well, if you think about it, there's not a lot of construction involved. Pretty much the whole land can be built in a warehouse and then shipped and assembled at the park, including the theming and the rides. Hopefully that'll mean that the rest of the process will be a lot faster.
