I did them as png's as you requested but when making shirts, having the background clear on the design does NOT mean it will be clear on your shirt.

If you use a light transfer, the sheet itself is clear and areas that are white (or lack color) will be clear (or the shirt color).

If using a dark transfer, the sheet itself is white. So anything white or anything lacking color (including transparent) will be white. Then any (white) areas you do not wish to have on your shirt, you will need to trim off. I hope this explains it well for you.
