Fastpass needed for Toy Story with Wheelchair

My husband took my daughter on this last trip, I can't remember if fast pass even does anything on this particular ride when you have a wheelchair. I know it makes a difference on most other rides, but what I'm remembering is that you almost immediately get split off to the wheelchair loading area. SO, do I use a tier one FP for this or for Great Movie ride? (we're 30 days out now, so mid sept trip, low crowds)

We use Fastpass for Toy Story Mania.
The 'split off point' for guests using wheelchairs is at the point where Fastpass and regular lines merge, right before the stairs. Guests with mobility devices are sent to the right, up a ramp to the accessible boarding area.
Other guests continue up the stairs or are directed to the boarding area for the new track that was recently opened.

The split off point is a short distance from where you enter the Fastpass line, but without using Fastpass it is a much longer distance and a much longer wait.

Right now (Sunday morning 10:22 am Orlando time), Toy Story Mania has a 40 minute posted wait. Great Movie Ride has 25. Depending on just when you go, Great Movie can be basically walk on. Toy Story might not always have a 40 minute wait, but is not generally going to be significantly shorter and could be much longer.image.jpeg

TSMM makes me crazy at times because the WC line gets so long. I sometimes get my son to walk this line, he can walk some of the time, but the stairs are very hard for him. Can you enter the regular line with FP and skip the stairs without being put over in the WC waiting area? I cannot remember. I sometimes have him walk FP line for things like Space, where pushing the manual chair up and down the hills is hard for me.

With the original 2 tracks, no. The only way to skip the steps is by using the WC loading area.
I have not used the new track but it is my understanding that the new 3rd track does not have stairs. This is second hand information though as like I said, I haven't personally used it.

Before the new track was added to Toy Story Mania was added, the only way to avoid the stairs was to use the wheelchair accessible boarding area.
Some people needed to use that area only because they could not climb the stairs. The new track does not have stairs, so is an option for people who need to avoid stairs, but don't have a mobility device. (I have not used it, but have seen 2 different videos that show the entire path of the new track, from entrance to boarding).
The accessible boarding area is still the only option (as far as I know) for guests who have a mobility device or need the wheelchair accessible ride car.

I can't remember exactly when the new track was added, but it was sometime late this Spring. All guests enter at the same place as before - the Fastpass and Standby entrance locations did not change.
The change is at the point where the Fastpass and Standby lines merge.
There are now 3 ways guests can be directed
- to the right to the ramp that leads to the accessible boarding area
- to the middle to the stairs
- to the left to the new boarding area

Thanks for the great info Sue! I'll keep my FP for Toy Story.
The third track was added just after our trip in May, so end of May I think it opened, I remember thinking just one week later and we'd have been able to check it out (just two of us, no wheelchair that trip).

We're heading over to Orlando in 10 days (yay!) and I have been wondering this myself. A couple of times we've been lucky and either not had a wheelchair ahead of us or only had one. Other times (usually on our return using DD's DAS pass) we've ended up in a massively long wheelchair queue and waited up to 40 minutes. I've often grumbled that if I could do the stairs we'd get on quicker using the ordinary queue, and have been looking forward to the new third track if it means I can walk in on my stick and not have any stairs to negotiate. I think the thing to do is to ask before we enter what my options are. We've got a FP for it, anyway.

It wouldn't be so bad if you could find out before committing yourself to the ride whether there were a load of wheelchairs in the ramp area. Then we'd know whether to go in or to come back later (the beauty of a DAS is it doesn't time-expire). All that said, DD isn't coming with us this time as it's our Silver Wedding trip and I don't qualify for a DAS on my own.

Okay, we went to Hollywood Studios today. We turned up at 10.05am with our FP+ and tapped ourselves in. We were amazed to see, once inside, that it was practically a walk-on! At the split I asked the girl on the gate how many people were waiting in the wheelchar section. She popped round the corner and returned to say that there weren't any. I then asked about the new third track. She said that you can take a wheelchair/ECV all the way to the ride on that track. If you need special assistance (for a non-transferer out of a wheelchair, for example) then you'll still need to use the wheelchair side. However, I got right through and onto the ride at the third track with no problems at all - other than the fact that we probably ended up waiting longer in that queue (I think people chose to go on that one out of novelty as the queue on the first track didn't even reach the bottom of the stairs so clearly no queue to speak of there.

So, I very kindly 'took one for the team' so I could report back to you guys on ease of access for the new track. The cars are all very new, though, and the gun mechanisms are a bit stiff. I found that I wasn't firing a lot of the time as the knob didn't always go all the way in again between firing.

Thank you for reporting back - we will be there in just a few days (which reminds me how much I have to do before we leave LOL) so it's great to have that info! :)

Thanks for the information.
I could see from videos of the ride path that there were no stairs in the new track, but I had not heard anything about wheelchairs being able to go in that line.

We won't be able to check it out - my daughter stays in her wheelchair for anything with a wheelchair accessible ride car.

we are just back with the new third track no stairs for that track. I use a cane and was sent that way at the split. cant say if that has helped the line for special cars or not as this was the first time I did not have to use that line. we could not see that line but I assume it would help that line as people who only needed to avoid the stairs now have another way to go. and to answer about fast pass the split off is at the merge point so you would wait most of the standby line before getting in that line

We are at WDW now and were at DHS last week. My daughter and I rode Toy Story Mania 3 times one day last week. Once standby (20 minutes), once with our pre-booked fastpass and once with her DAS. Twice we were sent to the new track and once to the original wheelchair access. Both times we were sent to the new track, they looked to see how many were already waiting in the original wheelchair access line and then asked us if she could transfer. Since she could, I assume they thought it would be quicker to use the new track. She did stay in her chair until about 2-3 minutes before boarding so for people like her who only need the chair for stamina issues or to skip the stairs, the 3rd track seems like a good option.

Well this sounds great! We have a FP+ for this ride in October, and will leave my son's chair outside.
