2016 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival: September 14 - November 14, 2016

Thanks, I did not know you could use them for cocktails

Last year, the only things excluded were the flights and the more expensive champagne samples.

You don't have to use them in one day, and as noted by PP Tony, if you use them for items priced at $7.50 or more, you will break even or wind up with a discount.

They have frozen mojitos again this year. I can tell you from personal experience that they are very worthy of a sampler entitlement. :)

Don't forget tax too - we bought these last year and they were $62.85 including tax. If you are only getting value from the entitlements (and not the pin and lanyard, which we didn't care about) the over/under in order not to lose money on the sampler entitlements is $7.86. I believe (but am not certain) that the kiosk prices include tax. Last year I made a list of the items I wanted to try that cost more than the $7.86 and most were in the $8-10 range, so not too much of a savings. However, my sister and mom did really enjoy the Pina Colada from the Dominican Republic booth last year and it was $11 :scared1: so we used a lot of the sampler entitlements on those. Last year the only places you could use the entitlements were the "Country" booths and Chew Lab, etc. You could not use them on the wines at Block & Hans or Desserts & Champagne, where some of the great values would have been.

Didn't include the tax as I assume the food items also have a tax component on them - but I can't recall for sure.

The main thing is to use them for the most expensive items you want to try - and you get the pin as well.
Unless you are a drinker I'm guessing it's not a great value - i don think there are many food items that are over the break even point and some of those are probably restricted, like the dessert sampler.

I figure on buying at least one and seeing how it goes, but it seems like it was a better value last year for many since you got the eat to the beat fast pass - but that looked like it was a logistical mess for Disney since the FP was only for a specific date/event from what I saw.

I do feel like Disney priced this a bit high for general use.

You are probably correct, but I don't think we can say so for certain until the menu prices come out.

From what I can gather about last year's Festival, there were only 2 food items priced at $7.50, and those were the filet in Canada and the lobster roll in America. If there is an increase in samples across the board this year, other items may be at or above that amount.

Well I know what I'll be using my entitlements on :)

I don't think it's coming back though  I think they changed things up this year and replaced DR with "Islands of the Caribbean". I would not be surprised to see the frozen mojito in this price range.. Ugh

Don't know... I can only say that at both F&W and F&G last year we thought these were REALLY tasty... maybe it was a bad batch! :)

I had the special slushie at both F&W 2015 when it was pomegranate, which would have been the same as the F&G festival earlier in 2015 I believe, and then at F&G this year which was the cranberry type one. The pomegranate last year was AMAZING!!!!! The cranberry one at F&G didn't have a distinct taste to me. It was a bland almost. I wish it had a more predominate cranberry, or anything, flavor. But if you've only had the pomegranate from last year, I would concur that they were super tasty. It's the cranberry from this year that left something to be desired for me. I will have to decide whether to give it a go again in Nov

Yes, they're all at the Tambu lounge at the poly :rotfl:

We were not that impressed with most of the choices at F&W but we do like the beer flights. We have a tendency to try a couple of the specialty mixed cocktails and then get irritated with the quality and portion size and then shuffle off to find a full size beer from one of the permanent world showcase locations. Our favorite permanent place to grab a full size drink is the Canada beer cart.

The Tambu Lounge is probably one of my favorite places! Walter makes a mean drink! I am always happy to hang out there and try to make it a priority to stop by each trip.

Debating about buying The Tasting Sampler ... not sure if its a good deal. Thoughts?

We are going to go ahead and get it this year again but you end up breaking even if not saving maybe a couple dollars. Nothing great but you do have to keep an eye on the price of items :) We like it just for the pin and lanyard! LOL

This will be our first time at the Food and Wine Festival. Is there a plan of attack for walk around the World Showcase?

Don't try and go on an empty stomach....Because you won't be able to eat as much.....
Either route you go, I'm sure you'll be picking from cart to cart....This is what we always do.

We've always visited EPCOT at least either twice or 3 times. we'll make ADR's for the 1 night & then EAT around the WORLD the other one or 2 times.... Usually the 4 of us will split up to 15 or twenty items.....It's always fun trying new things as well as some of our Fam. Fav's..

Enjoy & have a great time.

Thank you for this thread. We found out the festival will start the LAST day we will be in WDW. And that is also the only day we could get reservations to Be Our Guest, so I won't get to try as much as I would like from the festival booths. But the menus have given me some ideas of things to make at home :)

The culinary demonstrations, beverage seminars (typically wine tasting), and mixology seminars are scheduled every day of the festival.

Culinary demos are typically scheduled at 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and 5:00 PM each day of the festival.
Beverage seminars are typically scheduled at 12:00 noon, 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM each day of the festival.
Mixology seminars are typically scheduled at 6:00 PM each day of the festival.

All of these seminars/demonstrations are held in the Festival Welcome Center which is located in the old Wonders of Life Pavilion (between Universe of Energy & Mission Space).

Are these all for-pay events, or are the demos free? Used to be the seminars were free. It was awesome. One of my faves was the heir from Twinings telling about his 300-year-old tea company. Learned how to turn caffeinated tea into decaf in 20 seconds, have used that tip ever since! Another was pink Himalayan salt before you could get it anywhere.

In previous years, there was a "soft opening" the day before the official opening. We have enjoyed it each year! If you can, go visit Epcot for this. The booths usually are being set up earlier in the week and open for soft opening. It was great. At the time, we had the Disney Dining Plan and used our snack credits for tasting!

All of these events now carry a fee. The beverage seminars and culinary demonstrations are $15 per person. The pricing for the other special events vary.

One note regarding the timing of the seminars and demonstrations as Disney changed the times from last year. The beverage seminars are scheduled at 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and 5:30 PM. The culinary demonstrations are scheduled for 12 noon and 2:00 PM. Disney reduced the number of culinary demos from 3 to 2 per day for 2016.

Also - they usually start it a day or two earlier for a soft opening - - so you may get a chance to check it out if your there.

Im sure someone else on here may have more info on that.

Everyone has different likes/dislikes. I remember in 2013 there was a duck dish offered in France. I absolutely hated it. The only thing I've ever tried at F&W that I couldn't stomach. My wife loved it. Different strokes for different folks.

I rarely come over to the Restaurant forum, so not sure if this is where this info belongs, from the HUB:
Chef Kenny Gilbert will appear in place of Chef Bryan Voltaggio at the following events during the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival:

  • Sept. 18 – “What’s Cookin’ With…”
  • Sept. 20 – Culinary Demonstration
Guests with reservations for these events will receive communication this week informing them of the change, and those with questions may call 407-WDW-FEST (939-3378) for additional assistance.
