Delta is pulling out of Regina at the end of July 2016. For us this means the options in the future are Westjet, Air Canada or drive to other city to get to Orlando.
Funny thing is we just booked flights with delta and our home leg is in Aug so we will wait and see what happens. No matter what I have to say Delta was good to us over the years and the $421 round trip we booked this year was great price.

Totally sucks. For being a capital city, Regina sure gets shafted all the time. Are there any better flights out of Saskatoon? I know West Jet has direct flights out of Winnipeg to MCO about every other day, but that's a 6 hour drive.

Similar to Regina's woes is the removal of two more routes from YEG by United. Edmonton to San Francisco and Chicago ends this summer. We still have Denver and Houston, but with our oil woes, I sometimes wonder about those two. United does have a few days every now and then with return flights, YEG to MCO, at about $371-ish CDN, return, all fees and taxes included, connecting in Houston. Probably doesn't help the OP, though.

Ug! Delta! We have ticket from Regina to Orlando Sept 19-30. We had one nice layover in Minneapolis each way. Not too bad at all. They changed one of our flights times a couple of months ago, made our layover quite a bit longer but I can roll with it. And then this morning I get a call from them! They have cancelled our flight from Regina to Minneapolis and vice versa!! Instead they booked us a WestJet flight from Regina to Calgary and then Calgary to Minneapolis then Minneapolis to Orlando. BAH! Do you know how much of a PITA it's going to be to take my 4 year on 3 flights in one day!!! And they only give us an hour in Calgary to collect our luggage and go through customs and try to make our next flight. I'm super not impressed. At least they are giving me the option to cancel with a full refund.

Delta let me change my flights that they gave me with westjet also Delta said I could fly out of another city if I wanted like Saskatoon. In the end I changed both my leaving leg that is still with delta and my return with delta to Edmonton then westjet to Regina (no cost). So if you could find better options I would try calling delta to look into it.

It never occurred to me to try that. I was just so frustrated at that point. We were able to cancel the Delta for a full refund and get pretty good flights with Air Canada going through Toronto for the same price. It worked out okay in the end because my brother decided to not come with us so I was able to get a refund for his Delta flight and not book him a new AC flight. The only thing that was nice about Delta is they let you book your seats for free with AC we have to wait until we check in 24 hours ahead of time (or else pay) but I'm sure it will work out. We are normally WestJet people but there was nothing good to Orlando with them. I guess it all worked out in the end.

Edmonton has lots big routes too - cancelled non stop flight to NYC, cancelled direct to Dallas, San Fran, etc...all because of the economy :( Means less choices and increased costs

All true. Our go to airline for Orlando has been United for years. Usually better prices, love getting below the snow belt on the first flight when connecting at IAH, and occasional cheap upgrades to first. For our next trip (Dec 31-Jan 7) United's prices were just ridiculous ($1200 pp CDN) and made the slightly pricy Westjet nonstop flights look like a bargain, so that's how we're going.

We always drive to Bismarck, ND and fly Allegiant. It is a 6 hour drive from Regina, but the savings is worth it to us. We're flying this July for $200 pp return. It flies into Sanford however, not MCO, so no Magic Express though.

Resurrecting this thread... WestJet announced yesterday a new weekly non-stop service between Regina and Orlando starting this fall.

Now that's good news! After lauding United as our "go to airline" we ended up booking the nonstop from YEG to MCO on Westjet. While more than we
are used to paying, it sure beats the astronomical prices United has on offer for our dates. Actually looking forward to the nonstop and am secretly, ok not so secretly, hoping for one of WJ's Disney themed planes.

Yes, after losing United who were our go to airline (due to schedule and price), our last trip (Jan 2016) was a pair of one-ways with Delta (first time) on the way there and WestJet on the way back. At the time of booking we decided to upgrade our seats to Delta Comfort+ and what a difference! We did the same for the return trip and enjoyed the air travel much more. We booked our next trip (Mar 2017) before the announced WestJet routes direct to Orlando, and so were looking at other cities to fly out of for Delta and United (as they were still cheaper than Air Canada or WestJet) incl Calgary, Winnipeg and even considered Minot, ND. Then, on a whim, I checked Saskatoon and booked with Delta - Comfort+ seats for us for $1000 return. Even with adding a hotel room the day before and after it is STILL cheaper than anything AC or WJ was offering.

This is a strategy that is often overlooked. In 2013, we decided to go to WDW on a Friday, leaving the next day(don't ask...), which was the first day of our local spring break. Westjet had absolutely no availability going down and United was really expensive. By looking at one-way fares I saw United's return flight was the expensive one and Westjet had a decent price on their non-stop return. So I booked United going down and Westjet coming back. While more than we usually paid booking several months out, it was at least affordable considering the extremely short notice. Yeah, the upgraded seats are sure nice. We got a nice price on an upgrade to first on United last November. Really enjoyable flights, or maybe it was the "free" drinks.

You can track the tail #'s of those 2 planes if you want to join the obsessed, wishful flyers :P
