So, when we went to DL years ago, Jedi Training kids were picked out of the audience. Now it looks like you need to sign up. From our last few trips to Disney World, you have to be at the park right at open and run back to get in line. Is it that crazy at Disneyland? My daughter really wants to do it and I just want to make sure she can.

We just did this on Wednesday. We arrived about 10 minutes after opening on an early entry day. Only the first time slot was "sold out" and all the other shows were open. There was about 10 people in line behind us by the time we were done at 9:20. I don't think I'd get there much past 9:30, maybe earlier if it's during a busy time. We were there all week, and the mornings for the most part, weren't all that busy.

Do we need to have tickets for the kids? I was thinking I should run to get Space Mt FPs while they go to Innoventions to sign up. But if the kids need their tickets, that won't work out very well.

You don't need their tickets, you need them to sign up. So a fast pass runner could go and get space or other FPs while an adult waits with the children to sign up for JTA. I do this each trip while my wife waits with our son to sign up. He's done it twice and had different sign up procedures on both days despite both being MM days. The last trip in July they started signing people up early (pre regular park opening) and in March they did not, we lined up 20 min before park opening and by park regular opening the line was very long behind us.

So take a peek back at the sign in area so you aren't left with a sold out day because you waited too long to get in line. We had 3 times sold out by time we reached the podium despite it only being 20 min into the magic morning in July. All worked out and he had an amazing time, but it could have been disappointing and we are "veterans".
BTW FP distribution doesn't start until official park opening on MMs.

Where is the sign up located?

In July I took DS to sign up. We arrived around 10:15 on a Sunday morning and there was no line. The spots for the earlier shows were taken but we didn't want those anyway. The last 3 shows were still available. The sign up area can be a little hidden, you go up the ramp that's near the exit of Launch Bay. They have a sign at the bottom of the ramp that says JTA sign-ups.

I took my daughter right to the sign up on a early entry day and got the first time slot...they give you a paper pass but the kiddo has to be with you at the time to answer some questions.
Good luck!

I'm glad I came across this thread because I had no idea you actually have to sign up now. Thank you for the information!!

Does anyone know if there is a turnstile that is designated for people who want to sign up for jedi training to line up behind prior to rope drop? I recall this from WDW, and I'm wondering if they do it at DLR, too. I've got to say, I am so glad that they have put the sign up system in place. The old system was chaos and madness and I witnessed so many miserable kids :(
