Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side 2017

So Memory Maker probably a worthwhile purchase for this trip as we have three (possibly a fourth) runner, as well as significant others and spouses. Obviously plugging in the bib numbers comes after the trip, but our possible fourth will be on a different reservation. I'm not so much worried about park photos for them, but provided I still plug in that bib number run photos are downloadable for him despite not being on my reservation?

Correct. Also, if you connect as Friends & Family (through MDE), even the park photos will appear.

Yep, I had an AP this time at the Dark Side which comes with memory maker built in for the year. I activated my pass on April 16 but I could access the pictures from my previous trip (October 2015), somebody connected to me through Friends & Family from their New Years trip as well as all the photos everyone in my party took in April. If you know someone with an AP, you should be able to connect with them on the app and get all your pictures that way. I love having the Memory Maker, it's well worth the $ spent especially if you have small children or take a lot of character pictures, especially if you were going to buy race pictures already.

For Memory Maker my running group and I have done a Memory Maker share before and it worked out great. We are all "friends and family" on MDE and share our PhotoPass pictures. So it was easy to share. So, in my opinion, with that many people in your group it absolutely makes sense to purchase Memory Maker, you can split the cost, and then share it since you'll have park pictures and race pictures.

I am thankful that I have an AP that now includes the Memory Maker! Such a great inclusion to my AP, even if the prices did go up a bit. Lov eit!

I only wish runDisney had been ready to do this with the Light Side 1/2 in Disneyland this year. As much as people complain about Disney prices (some of which is certainly justifiable), they're substantially cheaper than race photos.

I just checked and I am surprised that all runs are still available except the 10K. I did the DS Challenge this year and was not planning to run it in 2017. If it stays available and friends decide they want to go to...probably will. Other wise it is local runs and triathlon events.

I had run in the last 5 WDW RunDisney events and spent way to much in runs, rooms, and food. I already have an AP. The only Disney event in 2017 is the Princess Half Marathon weekend since my daughter and I had a blast together.

Seriously! I went ok MarathonFoto a week or two ago to see if they still had 2015 Marathon pictures up and they were any cheaper to buy than back then. NOPE. Still $80+ for digital downloads. Ridiculous.

Same here. And most of my photos are just awful! There is no way I'm spending money on them.

I might have missed it; have we discussed costumes yet?

I may not run in costume for this race weekend. I will have 1-2 hours of free time a day in the 2-3 weeks leading up to this visit and then having limited luggage space because I'm flying and spending the week after the race at WDW means I'm not going all out for a costume. I also learned my costume lesson during this year's 10K. Running with a lightsaber is a lot of fun, but it's much easier to deal with if the blade is retractable. I ran as Kylo Ren for the 10K and I had to worry about not hitting other runners in the very congested start of the 10K. Plus, it's nice to be able to hook the lightsaber on my running belt as needed during the 1/2. Given that I don't know how TSA will react to a toy lightsaber, I may have to skip a costume for the Dark Side weekend.

I will say this about running in costume. Make sure you have run in the costume before the race. You want to know how your body will respond to the costume. I once saw a group of people in heavy costumes running as the Enchanted Objects from Beauty and the Beast during the 2011 Disneyland 1/2. I saw them stopped alongside the course multiple times dealing with heat related issues during the race. While I don't know for sure, I doubt they were able to finish the race and their costumes were far too elaborate and nice to simply discard along the course.

I think I may just Disney bound BB-8 style. That way I'm in the spirit of things, yet not uncomfortable when trying to run.

Whoa. Am I reading right that I might get C2C? I thought it was just Kessel.

As for costumes, I've ordered two Star Wars tank tops that had super weird junior sizing. I'm hoping they are loose enough to layer or have a matching color bra depending on weather. I plan to test these shirts on a few 10Ks this fall. I was looking for capris with pockets but I don't think anything compares to Sparkleskirt storage. They have spoiled me.

Training is going OK this week. Monday SPIN, TUES Calisthenics, WED 5K. Today is HAIR day. Plan is to run FRI AM.

I agree, test run your costumes! No matter how elaborate or sine! You never know when something will bother you on a run! I am getting a headband for light side and am planning my test run already, or thee to make sure it doesn't drive me batty!

I haven't begun to think about dark side costumes yet, although my teenGage son suggested someone from the video game franchise, which I'm not familiar with, and I'll consider the option.

Happy training everyone!

You may or may not, as I posted a few pages back in an email they sent me it says--- to get the Original Coast to Coast you will have to run a 3rd race. This year people did get both, but who knows actually what will happen next year since they like to keep things questionable on their website.

I have one outfit idea but then started searching for a brown or tan tank top that is moisture wicking/tech material and it was way harder than I thought & I really don't want to run in cotton, so might have to scratch that idea :(

I recently found these capri length running pants in BB-8's colors. The website it was shown to be sourced from (runSilly.com) doesn't even reference the item anywhere. Nor can I find any other website that does so either. So disappointing, they would have been perfect!

Oh Yeah maybe I'll do that, thanks! Otherwise I could sew something, we have patterns for athletic tanks & skorts, but I suck at sewing

BFF just talked me in to registering for the 5K as well. Shut up and take my money...and give me all the bling!
Yay! It's good the races don't sell out fast then it gives people time to get roped into them, hahaha!

I swore I wouldn't do three in a row again, but here I am. And my BFF is convinced we're doing Dopey. But a full scares the crap out of me. I have a feeling she'll talk me in to it. At least I'll have done three in a row twice. But that full...

A full is a different beast for sure! If you put your mind & training to it I bet you can do it! Just use the Force, right!?!?!

Yay! I was able to talk DH into the 5K as well, so this will be his first runDisney experience as a participant! Now they are getting twice the money from our household. :)

I said for years that I'd never do a full, it just didn't interest me. And then I decided to do Dopey this past January. It is a different beast, like @cavepig said, but totally doable. Everyone told me before Dopey that the hardest part was getting up so early 4 mornings in a row, which I was skeptical about, but it was totally true. We'd trained for the mileage, but not the early wake-ups. You can do it, it's just a big time commitment with training.

I signed up for the 10k and it is my first race! I am not a runner...ever... so this will be something to get me motivated to begin.
I was just going to do an easy costume of Matt the Radar Technician. I just have to find an orange vest and wear a grey shirt under.
