Marathon Weekend 2017!

Does anyone know of any non-Disney resorts that are offering specials for marathon weekend? The only one that I have been able to find is Bonnet Creek.

I don't think many do specials for marathon weekend specifically but they may be running deals for January for example. Have you looked into the swan or dolphin at all? They aren't Disney hotels but are on Disney property and are cheaper compared to most Disney hotels. They offer deluxe amenities and have RunDisney transportation.

Thank you. I have not looked at S&D, but I will check them out. Transportation isn't a huge deal to us since we will definitely have a car. We have been to Disney numerous times, and as a general rule, we just prefer being off-site. I know that this will sound crazy, but we actually enjoy escaping from the Disney bubble each day. However, I am wondering if we want to stay on-site for the marathon weekend, but before we commit, I am interested in our options.

As an FYI, Bonnet Creek has an entire runner's package.

ETA - We also normally visit in the warmer months so things like the resort pool are important to us. This visit has an entirely different set of requirements, and I feel like a Disney newbie!

We stayed at Swan last year, we used the FL resident special for that weekend which got us in the BW area cheaper but then they add in resort fee, parking fee, and tried to put another fee on for a rollaway. The price gets up there after those fees.

There should be plenty of deals off site for that weekend but you just have to look around on websites. Not many of them will identify marathon weekend deals but have found some decent rates just browsing sites especially if you have an idea which hotel or area you want.

I really like swan and Dolphin but you really do have to factor in all the additional charges. It's usually half the price or less than other Boardwalk area resorts but the add on fees can push make the difference less substantial.

My favorite five (or close enough, no more Off Kilter :sad2: ) . . .

1. Tower of Terror
2. Splash Mountain
3. Space Mountain
4. Toy Story Mania
5. Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue

So if you go to register it has the option -
"#Race Director Challenge" & needs a password for Goofy & the Half

Anyone know what that's all about?

Tough question!! This will be my list for now :

1. Splash Mountain
2. Toy Story Midway Mania (have had SO many laughs on that ride with my kids)
3. Festival of the Lion King
4. Main Street Electrical Parade :(
5. MK Opening Show

Interesting. Here's hoping the invited guests don't get VIP treatment and have to slum it with the rest of us. Doing so would make their feedback more worthwhile.
Agreed - some should get the advantage of the more expensive options while others mix with the masses. They could then put their heads together and offer real feedback. But I would also welcome their feedback on the courses - especially the pinch points along the route, and the long sections without fan support.

Yeah if the feedback is. "We really like the bus that drops you off right at the start line...." we can take it with a grain of salt.

And get put in a later corral. If they're all starting in A or B and running 8 minute miles they're not going to have the same experience as us.
An 8 minute mile would actually put you in corral C during past marathon weekends.

Happy Sunday everyone! 19 weeks to go. I took the week off due to a bum foot, but I hope you're all feeling fit and fast.

This week's Sundays are for Disney question is a guest submission from @Ariel484:

What is one little-known tip you'd like to pass along to those participating for the first time? -or -What is something you wish you'd known before your first runDisney race weekend?

First-timers, chime in with something you'd like to know about the race weekend.

I'll start it off with this: How much time did you spend in the parks the day before the race?

Respect the weather for race day. If it's chilly at the start and you're standing [sitting] in your corral be sure to have warm throwaway clothes on.
It can be miserable if you're "freezing" waiting for the start. Likewise, if it's warm and humid make sure you slow it down a bit and hydrate more often. We all train in different climates so it's an adjustment on either end of the spectrum if we don't get the ideal running weather. I was there in 2010 for the ice run and have run too many high humidity /dew point races which for a northerner suck the wind out of you!

Bring cloths for every running situation. The 2015 10K was freezing and I didn't have anything warm for when you stand outside for an hour or two.

You need to strike a balance between respecting the distance and having fun too. You miss out on a lot of Disney if you hole yourself up before the race, avoiding contact with germs and things, and doing nothing but saving yourself for the race. Why go all the way to Orlando to do that? On the flip side, you can really ruin your race by treating it as an afterthought and spending all day in the parks, walking around on tapered legs, and eating junk food from the food carts. You need to be moderate in both your desire to become a hermit and your desire to make the most of your time at Disney.

I'll start it off with this: How much time did you spend in the parks the day before the race?

I usually spend a few hours a day in the parks on any given day. It's a good way to stretch your legs after one race of a challenge if you're doing one. We usually stay at an Epcot resort so we can walk to a park, hit a few rides and attractions, and make our way back. Our "do nothing all day but eat, drink, and park hop" days we save for after the races are over.
