Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

Hello, Pop People!! I'm coming over here to get you all's input on the upcoming refurb. Some friends are staying at Pop on October 12-13, and received an e-mail from Disney stating that during their stay the refurb would be taking place. Should they be concerned? Should they stay or move to another resort? They will be spending most of their time in the parks, so I'm thinking it will be OK to stay. Anyone know if/how the refurb is supposed to impact guests?

Based on what I've read here, the refurb work is only being done 10am to 4pm, and they will likely do it in one building section at a time, where people are not staying. I think there will be almost no impact.

Does anyone know if you can request a rollaway/cot?

Unless things have changed in the past 3 years, yes you can request a cot. There will be an additional charge for it.

When we were there 3 years ago one of the people in our travel party got the flu. We ordered a cot so to allow more space while he was on the mend and it was delivered quickly.

That would be great. Thank you for the info!!

Only 16 more days until we get to Pop! I was curious...I filled out the fax form with Touring Plans...are they good at sending them in? Is it better to call them in instead? I don't normally care if we get our requests (close to main building and ground level) but we are traveling with a 2 year old and a 10 month old and I would really like a ground level room if one is available. Any information would be helpful!

Sorry if this was already mentioned, but the bus boards are on today!
Woot woot!! We'll be there 2 weeks from tomorrow. Excited that these are (sometimes ;) ) working!

I have used TP to FAX in our room request for the past 2 trips. Once we were 3 rooms away from our request and the other time we got the exact room requested.

They are very good at sending in the request and I will say that Disney appears to try and honor them as best they can. The challenge comes in that since they can only send them in a few days (5?) before someone arrives, there is always a possibility that someone is already in the room that is being requested so they do their best to accommodate around that.

Thank you so much! Someone told me not to use them but they are making this trip so much more manageable and less overwhelming for me! I am more than willing to put this into their hands!

It was last June that I saw a cot/rollaway bed in a room at Pop, so unless something has changed in the last 14 months.... :)

I really don't think there's a downside to using the Touring Plans room request fax service. I've heard a lot of people having great success with them. There have been some people who have reported not getting the room/area they requested, but the majority of people seem to get their request or very close to it. I used the service for our stay at AoA in June. We got the room right next to the one I requested which was fine with me. I really just wanted to be in a specific hall of a specific building. The exact room wasn't critical. I made sure to indicate that in the "comments" section of the fax form. I just stated that we wanted to be on the first floor of building 4, not facing the pool, and preferably in the hallway of the room I requested. Lake view would be nice, but not critical. The room we got met all of our requests. I won't hesitate to use them again on our next trip. I think that when the people don't get their requests, it's because of a few reasons: 1) Disney never got the fax for some reason; 2) There just weren't any rooms available near the one requested and there was no additional information listed as to why that specific room was requested so the room assignor doesn't know what else might make the requester happy. 3) In some situations, there may only be a few rooms in the entire resort like the specific one requested. If those rooms are all occupied by guests who won't be checking out until after the requester arrives, there's no way to put them in those rooms. Again, if there's no information listed in the comments as to why they requested that specific room, the assignor doesn't have anything else to go on.

I would suggest (if you haven't already) put your reasons for wanting the room you requested in the comment section so that if there are no rooms available near the one you requested, at least the room assignor understands why you requested the room you did and can hopefully find another room that meets your requests.

I have booked preferred to be close to the restaurant buses etc but really like the area by the lake bridge?
What would be my best room request?
Lake/bridge area is all standard, so if you've booked preferred, asking for a room there would be a waste.

You missed one thing....handles or no handles on the mugs??? :D

No handles here at Pop. They only have ones without.

I had heard that this might happen, but wasn't sure. .. A person from Pop called yesterday to make sure that we were all ready for our arrival in a few days. I was able to go over our special requests, which was good because one of them wasn't recorded for whatever reason. I thought that it was a really nice touch.

They did the same for me! I had requested a high floor but the room type I have she said the only one that would be available the day we checked in was ground floor. She offered an alternative of taking a different king room and having a rollaway bed (we have a king/double booked). I just took the ground floor room. I booked standard & we actually face the computer pool. It is very noisy to be honest, but we had no choice! I have slept well so it's fine (use a white noise app).

I like that they called you! I wonder if that is something new? We have a preferred location but my bigger request is that out bedding and towels be washed in hypoallergenic detergent. My dd has a severe allergy to many detergents which meant trips to the ER in the past before we figured out what it was. So thankful Disney offers this option!! I will call them to confirm the bedding request but if they call us that would be neat!

I got the feeling that they called me due to the fact that only one room of the type I booked available. I don't expect that they'll call every time. They offered me to take a different king bed with a rollaway, but sleeping on a rollaway for a week isn't my idea of a vacation! They are also careful with our cleaning, and so far no allergies for us this trip! Also nice that a housekeeping manager stopped by to make sure everything was ok.

Hi everyone,

We've just returned from a fabulous 14 night stay at Pop. We checked in using the app before travel (we're from the UK) and received an email on arrival at MCO giving our room number etc. I'd requested 4th floor lake view but was allocated ground floor. We stopped by at the concierge desk to collect our magic bands and to see if we could switch rooms. We saw a lovely cast member who switched rooms for us without a problem - 4th floor, 70's building 6 room 6415. Perfect. We've been to Pop twice before and this is our first using Magic Bands and Memory Maker. We found these to be amazing. All of of park photos were saved using our bands and we could view them on the app and what was really cool was that on certain rides we received a video clip too featuring us in it for Tower of Terror, Mine Train, Splash Mountain etc. Since arriving home we've downloaded hundreds of pics which are all really fabulous. Can't recommend this enough, it's super fab! We used the app to book tables at restaurants which is a must as it was very busy everywhere and of course we used it to book fast passes. This is a great step forward from when we were there last. Top tip - try to book your fast passes as close together as possible as when and only when you've used the last of your 3 are you able to them book another. So if you had 2 in the morning and another at say 5pm you couldn't book another til after the 5pm slot is used, whereas if you book 3 between 9am and 12 noon as soon as the one around 12 is used, you can start to book and use one at a time again. Definitely pre book fast passes before you arrive, be as organised as you possibly can. Same with restaurant reservations, organise those in advance too.

Rooms - I was really concerned about a post I read on here regarding AC in rooms and it now being controlled by a motion sensor and people constructing elaborate devices to mimic movement to keep the AC running at night and also that the temperature was preset. I was super worried about this and contacted Disney to clarify, they replied saying it was the same as it had always been. And it was. No motion sensor to be found. AC was on when we arrived and remained on for the duration of our 14 night stay. The minimum temp you could get down to was 65•F which was super cool and comfortable for us Brits unaccustomed to the high temps in Orlando. I'd imagine it might be too cool for some! So no home made contraptions required to trick the

What is a king/double room? I would be very interested to learn more about that. Or do you mean you had two rooms booked?

Thanks for the awesome report! I'm glad your vacation was magical!

I/we check in tomorrow. There are 6 of us, and we requested connecting rooms, and one adjoining. No building preference, I do hope to be off of the ground floor.

It's a special room type, roll in shower handicapped room.

It was confirmed to me that once the renovations are done they are doing away with this category. Also confirmed by the same cast member that coffee makers will be added.

For us, this room type worked out perfect. My DD showers sitting & handheld shower nozzle is good.

Hi everyone! I've been away from the boards for awhile but we arrive at POP in 16 days! I'm excited to hear the bus boards are working, not so happy about the handle-less mugs. We are a group of 8 in 3 rooms. I have requested two connecting and the other one nearby (I called this request in). During online check-in I asked for 70's. I'd prefer to be high up/lake side but my priority is the rooms together so I wasn't going to ask for any more.

I'm not OVERLY concerned about this, but how are the bugs at POP? I've stocked up on spray but just curious.
